  1. I am really pleased to see that the vast majority of comments have supportive, educational and helpful. I worked with autistic kids in the early 70's and again in the 90's. It is truly exciting to see how far the interventions have come. I have been on several cruises with AOTS and except for the brightly colored t shirts I would have had no idea that there was any kind group on board.

I would rather have your "on the spectrum" kids next to me at dinner than a drunk or a self proclaimed chair hog.

Have a great time on your cruise.

  2. Hey everyone! First of all, I am sure this post will end up with people making a ton of "special snowflake" comments and that's fine, I have a thick skin. :)

My question is, does anyone have any experience dealing with NCL's accessabilities department in regards to sailing with autistic children? Specifically, my 8 year old son struggles with noise and crowds in general. Why take him on a cruise, you ask? Because he is 8 years old, and he deserves a vacation, and because ultimately, while on the ship, I have a lot of control on whether or not to take him certain places at certain times. A cruise is perfect, because so much is included in the fare. I'm not paying a ton of money to go see a show that it turns out he's having a bad day and can't handle, we can just choose to leave if something becomes too much for him.

I am not requesting any sort of preferential treatment during the duration of the cruise, my curiosity runs toward embarkation. I have seen the occasional post about early boarding for special needs, and the occasional inclusion of individuals with autism being included on that list. I am obviously going to call NCL and speak with them on this topic, but I was wondering if anyone had personal experience with this. Thanks!

I have a eleven year old autistic daughter who also has trouble with noise and crowds we use head phones for the noose like I said she is eleven and had been on at least eight cruises NCL is by far the best PLEASE contact the cruise line and use the special access officer they are wonderful priority embarkation to priority tendering they are wonderful. Also if you do great styrup Kay get a cabana

  3. Looking for experiences of those traveling with older children 14+ with Autism . How did your child find the teen program? My son is high functioning but has anxiety issues too.... does great it smaller groups ..just curious if the teen program is craziness or us it spaced out well and accommodates all children's needs for the most part. He enjoys gaming , listing to music, reading , loves the outdoors , can laugh and have fun and carry a great conversation but does way better in small groups with not a lot of loud noise for long periods of time Not looking for a drop off or daycare just a place he can relax for a bit and meet some kids his age .

    Thx in advance .

Please call NCL and speak to the special needs access officer they will guys you from priority embarkation to dinning they are great we sail with my autistic eleven year old

  4. I meant pay up to cruise in a suite. Those of us that cruise in suites value those perks, and do not wish to have those benefits watered down by people being able to pay for them.

  5. I agree with comments which is why we avoided the BUffet. NCL has to share the blame as crew/staff members witnessed the described behaviors and did nothing to correct or discouraged it. I did speak up when I heard foul language around my wife and daughter, and did not yield from the railing when using the steps. When I said excuse me..the did move out of the way..and seemed surprised to be asked to do so..

They were even dressed in the main dining room like they were sitting at the pool disgusting I am for free style but bathing suits tank tops and bandanas on heads really ? When I asked Joseph the assistant Matri D why I was turned away last year in a button down shirt and pleated dress shorts and this year anything goes he told me that it was such a relaxed crowed they were letting them do it so the wait at the smaller dinning room was not as bad. What a load if you wanna dress like that for dinner than do the buffet or small dining room and wait.

  7. Seems like service is slower than normal in dining venues main and Cagney and blue lagoon a bit under staffed also portion sizes smaller. But it is only day three all else is good and if you need more to eat just ask all is great still beats work.

  9. Being diverted sux. 2 day trips (one to Florida...wow) instead of 3 days in Bermuda. They could have done much better than that (which is the issue) and so could have the 4000+ passengers. Disappointed in NCL lack of any attempt to make this experience anything better than ...well, we avoided the storm so be happy. Woohoo. Bug thumbs down for NCL and their lame response.

  10. ohmigosh.....cruise lines can't control the weather, & when you cruise at this time of year, it's the chance you take...and, NO, you don't get any refund whether partial or not. NCL & every other major cruise line that exists has the same policy & it is what it is. Deal with it! Disappointment is part of life, oh wellllll. If the ships sails, you go where it goes....& when an entire ship full of passengers & crew's safety is at stake, yet there are those who whine about how unfair it is that they don't get to go where they were supposed to because of a MAJOR storm & they don't get any type of a refund? Please. Cruise lines don't take their ships into tropical storms & hurricanes, regardless of disappointment. It's called responsibility. As lawsuit happy as people in this country are, can you imagine the lawsuits if they did...OMG! They'd sue because they were seasick & didn't divert the ship. Jeepers. End of rant.

    WOW Cranky pants. 😬😀

  11. Why can't they be dropped at the curb, at the same level car services drop at? It's just that the driver wouldn't be able to park, but have to circle back again to park (probably take at least a half hour).

I know it took us about 10 minutes for a porter to have a minute to load up our bags. I don't know oh easy it would be to get one to wait for the elevator and come to the parking lot to load up bags.

What ever way you like it there is no correct way I would rather go and get a porter and bring them up I have a large group 9 plus it is a lot of bags one in lot I would rather not go back out on the street and chance anything

  12. I wouldn't count on finding a porter in the parking lot. You can drop passengers and luggage at the lower level, but it might take a while to make that loop again, with traffic. You can definitely get a porter before customs and he will take you to your vehicle (I think we topped $20 - we tip $2 per bag when dropping luggage off).

Can't drop at the curb go all they way up and park then send one person down one level and bring a porter up with them
