  1. So all the people who say tipping in the beginning is wrong and tipping is for after service only never ask their butler or steward for anything when the meet them. Like put the beds together or apart. Extra pillows. Empty the fridge. More towels ect. You just met them say hi and then they go on your way.

  2. It is not called a 'tip' if offered BEFORE services rendered.

A tip is acknowledgement of good service - something you cannot predict prior to receiving it? LOL.

I tip as mentioned at the end of a cruise for services that I have received that I am grateful for.

Do you tip a waitress at your local restaurant BEFORE ordering your meal? I think not! :)

If I wanted a special table or service then I certainty would show a little gratitude in advance.

  3. I would take that bet.

It's a foolish person who risks upsetting the tipper who hasn't yet given them anything, in favor of the one who's already shown their hand.

    .

You would loose foolish nothing sure money is safe money. Your probably ashamed of how little you tip that's why you hide it in a envelope until you are off of the ship.

  4. 1- tip about $20 pp on the first day, this will get him going

2- then tip about $7pp/day (adds up, 5 suffices)

3- if he is helping with luggage for disembarkation, an extra $15pp will make sure he is known for what he has done. Best service you can get usually.

    more econominal, near as effective

15/3/10 will get him good service also, even though it will be nothing big.

Tested on Norwegian Gem, and Norwegian Breakaway.

    Gets you a great cruise.

  5. Now you just added more confusion to my list...lol

Where do you get the clamshells? I just tried to look it up but I couldn't find them. Do you rent them prior to sail, during sail or on island? how much are they? Do you get on earlier tender if you have one?

Once on board go to excursion desk and reserve them or use the concierge if you have access. They also include priority disembarkation

  6. I enjoyed reading this thread and feel compelled to add my own two cents. First of all I happen to like the font called Comic Sans because it is whimsical. I would not use it in a professional letter or document but find it perfectly acceptable anywhere else I feel like using it. Regarding the restaurant called La Cucina, which I am not familiar with, this is strictly a subjective issue. I happen to like Olive Garden and as a vegetarian who enjoys a good eggplant parmesan, I think this dish at the Olive Garden is pretty good because it's thinly sliced and crispy and I like the marinara sauce. I don't go to the Olive Garden expecting an authentic Italian meal, just a decent good tasting one. And what we like to eat is subjective, what our taste buds enjoy is subjective. I will be on the Breakaway in September and don't yet know whether I will try any of the specialty restaurants, because there aren't many vegetarian choices. I'm ovo-lacto rather than vegan so I do eat dairy, though very little. I love most ethnic cuisines, including Italian, and have an open mind. Your good and bad reviews intrigue me so I might use my small on board credit to sample La Cucina. I will say this, if I go to La Cucina I will inform the maitre d of the mixed reviews on the Cruise Critic website. I figure in that way I will be sure to have an extraordinary experience there.

I could not agree more with you. Except the vegetarian part I don't agree with that part 😜
