  1. Please! You're messing it up for everyone. The reason we sail NCL is for freestyle. You probably won't keep the reservation anyway.

So unless you have a group of 8 or more - just don't! We sailed POA with a group of 7, never made reservations at the main dining room and never had a wait of more than a couple minutes. There are plenty of larger tables.

    Thank you,

    Vic

Then make your own reservations. We always make reservations because we have things to do in the evening or before and this ensures dinner seating in a timely fashion. We never skip a reservation and if we can't make it we cancel that morning. So if you choose to wait that is fine and we choose to reserve and that is fine....afterall freestyle is about doing it the way that best suits you. ie dress up or not ...your choice...

  2. I want to clarify I was talking about your concerns at the airport....... I've never had it inspected at a port and I carry it on

I have had mine checked about 50% of the time. They always ask you to open case and take it out. I have taken my CPAP with me on several cruises and never had a problem with cords, travel, etc.

  3. we plan to get off briefly this fall just to see it, but i dont see any point of laying by a pool where i have to pay for food and drink when 100 yards away there is a pool on the ship where its all free. but that's just me.

ive also heard the beach there is very murky and the water isnt very clear - but that could be just some people's opinoins, i want to get off and see for myself.

We were there when it first opened and found the beach to be nice. Unfortunately half way through the day it started pouring so we headed back to the ship. We are beach people and enjoyed our time there.

  4. Maybe it wasn't NCL then because we would have done a waiver if he was old enough. It was several years ago and I am remembering the incident because of the emotion surrounding it. Steakhouse specialty, embarassed,etc... Either way I would exercise caution in a dining situation. Bringing glasses of wine with you from your room(we have done this with no problem) or just buying it at a bar and bringing it caused us no problems, but have ordered a bottle of wine at the table led to the problem.:o

  5. We actually had a server in Cagney's not allow my son to drink the bottle of wine we ordered because he was 19. For the record he is very responsible and quite frankly was having a glass of wine with his parents. We had told him it would be alright and he was very embarrassed by the situation so we felt bad that we had caused it to happen. They took all our S and S cards (we had a bottle of wine-purchased by my husband) and that is how she determined he was 19. She had not asked and we did not offer his age.

  6. Then I guess it was steak and shrimp! Its probably just a difference of opinion as to what a small/average/large portion is. I do not like that seaweed and (nasty) brown water they call soup so by the time the main course gets to me I am already behind everyone.

No it could have been steak and scallops as they allow you to substitute the scallops for the shrimp.

  7. Only if we are talking Teppanyaki on the Spirit, Jewel, Getaway, Sun, Dawn, Epic, or Gem. They do give you all of the rice you want so if you like filling up on fluff you will be fine.

For the record, One of your ships the Dawn we have sailed on and dined there more than once. We have been on the Breakaway which is a sister ship to the Getaway.

  8. I do agree, by the way, about the lack of options (with regard to the starters/desserts, mains are fine in my opinion). I’m usually the only one from our family who eats more than a mouthful or so of the starters, and neither of the desserts appeal at all. I’d love a few more options there.

If you haven't tried the green tea cake and ice cream with brittle. Try it! It is delicious! It looks/sounds like it wouldn't be, but it is yum! The fruit is ok, but nothing stand outish.

I like miso soup and the salad. We all eat up our appetizers. The endame when served is probably the only thing we don't enjoy.

  9. I must have been unlucky all 6 times I have eaten there! I only go because others in my cruise group love the place.

Every time we have gone there, we have always had way more than we can eat. I usually get the seafood one with calamari, shrimp and scallops. I have way more seafood then I could dream of eating. My husband and son have been able to order a combo of steak and seafood. They get the filet mignon and shrimp, but substitute scallops for shrimp. Again all of us leave food on our plates. I am sorry you have not experienced that...

  10. I personally have had terrible luck with RCL cruise ships and I haven't met a NCL ship that I haven't enjoyed. I find the RCL to be lacking in things to do, the food not as good, and the ships have a crowded feel. They also struggle with large group organization situations (ie excursions, muster drills, and activities). Just my opinion....I think ultimately it is what you prefer in a cruise line.

  11. I was on an NCL cruise in december (Breakaway). They had both escargot and shrimp on the MDR menu(not every night, but on one or 2). It was delicious (granted escargot is in butter, but seafood in general is extremely healthy...soo as far as a slim down contemporary menu that would mean more shrimp cocktail not less)!

  12. We did a GTY once and we got one of the the better rooms, but it was at the very front of the ship so it was a long walk. You do take a chance and with a balcony the obstructed views would be of lifeboats (not really a problem, but you do have the top of the lifeboat blocking part of your view.) If you are a glass half full kinda person and don't want the perks anyway...it can be a great way to save money and possibly get one of the best rooms.

  13. I'm glad store see they have the towel animals my youngest son loved them the one cruise I took him on and was disappointed to learn celebirty doesn't do them! So he will be happy when we go on the bliss (though he will be 8 by then so who knows lol) now I do have a question and it's kinda a stupid question (so don't be mean lol) but I don't travel in NCL and anyone can answer lol is the UBP for any drinks or is there like a lower level that you get as a perk then a higher level cause that's how it works on celebirty! I'm really enjoying this trip reports to prepare me, but I must admit you have to pay for alot of extras I wasn't really expecting!

  14. My son also split with his girlfriend about a month before an xmas cruise. They did refund port fees and taxes and any packages bought(ie spa or dinner). They applied the refund policy for the rest of the cost paid. He went by himself and had a great time(he did the breaking up so it may have been a little easier that way)
