  1. I visited the Rotterdam last weekend with my TA. The ship was beautiful! Lots of new carpets, also in the Lanai cabins. New flooring in the retreat, BB Kings club in Crows nest. The exploration lounge has a different lay out and there are more tables for 2 persons on lower level MDR. Tenders have been pimped as well. And more things you do mot see.

I have some photos but unfortunately we did not see the crows nest.

  2. All of that area around the funnels.... and behind..... a BRAND NEW TAMARIND RESTAURANT!!!!!!

Perfect... come up the aft stairs/lifts....over the view over the after end for a great bar... and both a dining room either side. But instead of Tamarind... an Indonesian Restaurant! You won't loose the shuffle area because that can be built up around anyway.

(Think about how the designed Tamarind for the KONINGSDAM... could be the same.)

    Hello Topsham,

I am just curious how did you get the information? [emoji3]

  3. We will sail the Rotterdam in June to the Baltics. It is our first cruise with Hall and we are really looking forward to this cruise. It is an hour drive to the port so no flying for us. I know most people will be a bit older and there will be lots of Dutch people on board so it will be a different experience for us.

In May we will visit the ship with our ta. Maybe I can take pictures of the new lounges.

  4. Thanks. Right now I can't imagine where they are going to go. There's no place, without taking over a place currently providing a different atmosphere.

I read on the internet that the band will play in the Crows nest on a newly redesigned stage.

  5. MS Rotterdam is going into drydock in Hamburg from April 7th till April 21th. I just read the info on a Dutch website. So it will take 2 weeks. Does ayone know if this is a routine drydock like fresh paint etc. Or will they also change carpets and furniture, create new cabins or whatever?

  6. There was no drink pricing at Oasis Schoonerbar in october transatlantic. Not even a list of available drinks. So I did not order anything without asking prices. I would have ordered more drinks if I had a list of drinks. I like trying something different. Probably something Royal would not promote when you have the drinkpackages.

I would never buy an alcoholic drink package as I do not drink that much. We liked the wine and dine package though which will disappear.

  7. It seems that Royal is not interested anymore in fine dining.

Chefs table is cancelled or downscaled (read about it on Quantum). Dynamic dining is installed, no more wine packages... The wines from the select package are really not my taste and I do not intend to buy a premium package just for my 2 glasses of wine with dinner. So we will buy a bottle now and than. We would spend more money having the wine package. Only thing is we are not sure about the changes. So let us wait and see 😉 I can always switch to Holland America Line.

Maybe Celebrity which is the same company. I think they want us to switch to Celebrity for fine dining. What do you think?

  8. Last year I did the leg Barcelona to Dubai on Mariner. The ship was prepared for the Chinese market as well. Some shops on the promenade were conververted to sell more luxurious items. We looked at carton walls sitting at cafe promenade for a few days. it was not so bad but still, construction was going on.

Other passengers told me that the casino was closed for 4 or 6 nights during the transatlantic from Galveston to Barcelona.

There was also Chinese personel on board. Our assistent waiter Pei Pei was very nice and friendly but other people had difficulties with understanding the staff. That might also be the case on this repositioning cruise but I dont know for sure of course. We liked the cruise very much but you may expect some things being different.

  9. It is 2 1/2 hours long (but it seems so much longer) with an intermission about 1/2 way through. Plenty of people left at intermission. Someone, not me, posted on another thread that they thought about 75% of the people left at intermission for the 3rd and final showing. We went to the 1st showing and about 25-30% of the people did not return to the balcony section after the intermission.

The set is amazing as were the costumes but it is a difficult story to follow if you did not already know the story. People either loved it or hated it. We were the latter.

I a not sure how well Cats will be perceived by many as it really does not have a story to follow and it is a slower pace than most of the entertainment offered on cruises. Time will tell how well it will be received. The Cats fans certainly loved it but just as many saw it as boring.

The 3rd and final showing was on the last evening of the cruise. Many people had to leave to pack their suitcases. As it was the only day with very good weather (most days were grey or rainy) I guess most people prefered to enjoy the weather and packed later in the evening.

  10. Hello, we were on the Westbound too and were not "wowed" mostly because of the crowds all over the ship and several other issues like (dis)embarkation. If the weather had been better it probably would be a nicer cruise. Our stateroom attendant and waitstaff were fine. We were disapointed that Chefs Table was cancelled which was communicated two days before the cruise. We would get our money credited to our Seapass Account but we did not. I sent an email a week ago but no response. Maybe the wrong email adress. What email should I use to write about this issue?

  11. How is the replenish package? Can you get the fresh OJ at more venues other than Windjammer and MDR?

Specialty coffes at Promenade cafe I suggest? No Starbucks I read. Are the freestyle machines working and is Ginger ale available? I will be at the TA 14th October. I live in the Netherlands and go watching Oasis dock at the cruise terminal September 30. I will wave!
