  1. I'm not sure how you arrived at your first statement. I booked an available cabin that happens to be HC. I was warned that I could be bumped if someone else NEEDS it. No problem, I will deal with it if and when it happens. It is mildly annoying that I have booked a year ahead and could be bumped by someone who books within a month of the cruise, but it would and will not ruin my cruise if/when it happens.

One thing has nothing to do with the other. You don't know me, my morals, or the people in my life.

It's interesting that blame is being placed on someone who booked an available room, instead of on the cruise line, TA, or PVP. It's not my fault if they fail to follow through as they should if a HC room is requested.

Several people in this thread have mentioned that they know of people who have been bumped, or were offered that opportunity. I trust that I will be bumped if someone needs the cabin. It's ultimately Carnival's responsibility to make sure that happens.

you are booking a year in advance and YOU book a HC room for the extra space..and YOU DON'T NEED IT. Then you have the balls to say "poor me its not fair if a HC person bumps me from a HC room that I BOOKED a year in advance. "

And then we are told to dealwidthit

    and your not snarky....

thats like me saying "I am not handicapped either..:)"

reality is Carnival and the other cruise lines can do more too ensure these rooms are either BOOKED by HC people OR are the LAST ones to be booked..

but PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY plays a role here also...its not YOUR FAULT you asked for the HC room knowing it was HC..its THEIR fault...right??

Just because YOU can.. doesn't mean it is RIGHT.

  2. :::::::::::donning flame-retardant suit:::::::::::::

Sorry, but I don't see any problem with booking an HC room in order to gain more space. I trust that if someone needs the cabin, I will be bumped, no problem. Carnival DOES make it very clear AS you are booking that this could happen. Besides that, I travel solo, so I'm paying 200%, dealwiddit! :p

I DO have a problem with the idea of my booking a year ahead (AND traveling from the Pacific NW to get there), and then getting bumped by someone at the last minute who lives in Florida who can cruise pretty much any time they want! :( That isn't fair IMO.

I don't remember the doors of my 4J's being any different from any other cabin door, but there is an emergency call rope pull in the shower and a button or something by the bed, so you want to be careful not to accidentally call someone to your cabin when you're starkers!

Carnival's goal is to fill every cabin. Period. If they keep the HC cabins out of inventory too long, they will sail with empty rooms.

You stole a HC room from another in need and you see no problem with that????

and IF there are rooms of the SAME category, same area, ect..and YOU get bumper how is THAT unfair??????

My understanding is carnival WILL NOT bump you if they cant either offer you the same category OR upgrade you. So if they bump you and you GET what you paid for..then so BE IT.

as for carnival sailing with empty rooms..RARELY happens...

so as you state..if you get bumped then dealwiddit!

  3. we were trying to book a quick get-a-way cruise this month (MAY) it fell thru because I could not get anyone to come tend the "Zoo"

However, the PVP at carnival was wonderful she told me outright..yup we have TWO cabins on the empress deck that are HC and we can bump both of them out. So take you pick of which HC room we wanted.

Unfortunately, I could not book anyone to come and house-sit on so short a notice.

Based on that I Do believe carnival will bump...YA !

  4. Of course you're trying to be rude. Popular culture has decreed that overweight people are the last group it is okay to discriminate against. I fit in the seat and don't need a seat belt extender. The airline sets the policy and I meet the criteria for that policy. I have, and have always had, a big chest. My chest and upper arms fill the seat back completely. As a general rule I avoid flying altogether but don't really enjoy it very much when I do. Your question is stupid. Why don't you pay twice as much for your seat as you have to?

Actually wscott I thought it was a valid question. I am not huge (I do not spill over in the seats nor need a seat belt extender) but I am a large person and I purchase first class ALWAYS, I get more leg room a better and bigger seat and I never have to worry about bugging other passengers.

So yes I thought it was a valid question

  5. Almost any pet can be certified as a service dog, the restrictions are very loose in the USA. My dad has sleep apnea real bad, doesn't drive (he fell asleep one time too many at the wheel) and doesn't operate any types of heavy/dangerous equipment. Since using his CPAP it has gotten better. But it is still bad...

My understanding also is a true service dog would NEVER be fed food from a table.

I think if that happened to me in the MDR I would probably ask to be moved. I do not feed my dogs table scraps, I do not feed my dog at the table..it just sorta..weird.

    have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. It's called Mal de debarquement and not uncommon, I've had it after many of our cruises. The best remedy for me has been to use Dramamine for a few days after getting off the ship.

Sorry but you are wrong its not call Mal De Bearquement

"What causes Mal de Debarquement ?

Little is known about this rare disorder. It is the general opinion, however, that MDD is not caused by an injury to the ear or brain. At this writing (8/2007), the predominant opinion is that MDD is a variant motion sickness. MDD is associated with postural instability after sailing (Nachum et a, 2004). While this theory doesn't explain why MDD seems to mainly affect women in their 40's it does seem to account for observations of naval personnel who have a similar land-sickness experience. "

Please do search and read up on this. I am familiar with this due to my mother having a form of this disease called Menieres Disease (Pronounced Many ears) she can never travel or fly etc. Mal De Debarquement is a very scary and fortunately very rare disease.

Mal De Debarquement is totally different from land sickness in that land sickness goes away after a few days and Mal De Debarquement can last months or years and be disabling.

  7. I totally agree with the OP, the taking of stuffed animals in public and posing them for photos, putting them on the dinner table, etc. is childish. But if folks enjoy it, fine, but we can still have an opinion.

I think people that smuggle booze on the ship and spend their time drunk and partying..is childish, and what a waste of money..:)

this hurts no one, no one wakes up hung over in the morning wondering what they did, doesnt cost anything, makes for great conversation..and is just good clean fun...

Here is a picture of our captain, Made on the ship, 100% Carnival, and this is what He does when us passengers are panicking about the hurricanes..

  8. Hopefully my reply doesnt get removed for i might upset some people.

first off I am overweight, 50 more pounds to go towards my goal AND I am disabled. Wheelchair bound alot of the time depending on the illness.

So here goes..someone posted something like "i can lose weight but they cant stop being them."

and you know I think as overweight people we need to ALSO understand those that are not. As in that comment even peed me off.

Why you ask??? I am disabled and even when I take off the last 50 pounds I WILL STILL BE DISABLED. there is no cure for me, there is no OA, there is not gastric surgery or lap band.

If I could be cured by losing the weight I would be pounding down the gym rooms door every day, to exercise, I would be getting surgery if need be, I would be monitoring every bite of food i put into my mouths..so that i wasn't disabled.

    so that i could walk

so that i could sit at the beach with my kids

so that i could live longer

    I don't have that choice

and I think THAT is why abled bodies do not understand were the obese people and their belief, come from, hell I am over weight and I don't understand how an overweight person can be classified as disabled. In alot of cases there is a CURE! and i think comments like the above, about being able to lose weight, just feeds into the ignorance of those that don't even try to understand it. All they see is that this obese person just stated that they can lose weight..so why don't they?

Now that being said, before you go getting all mad, I'm not saying you're wrong, or you should not be classifed as disabled or you should not have a room.

im saying to try to understand the view of others, and watch what we say. We do not need to rub it in their faces that we can just lose weight or get lap band to become mobile.

And finally, although I am not morbidly obese (any more I have lost 42 pounds to date), but i am and always will be disabled due to this disease. And this thread has opened my eyes alot to the trials and hassels an over weight person goes through. It is a good thread.

But I do think not only do others need to show tolerance and understanding..so do we.
