  1. During the big Vista reveal a couple of weeks ago, John made it known that the Vista would end its TA in NYC. Doesn't look like it will be there very long. And I know it will probably be expensive. But I'm hoping we may be able to sail her while in NYC or at least jump on the repositioning to Miami. I live so close to the NY pier and always travel to Florida for cruises. Would be nice for a change to jump drive up the turnpike and get onboard!

I'd have to drive 4hrs to NYC so it wouldn't make sense to take the repositioning cruise. I hope it goes a few roundtrips before going to Miami! I want to save on flights!

  2. Do you know how long it will be in NYC?

Nope. The Splendor is in NYC now though and I'm pretty sure the Spendor doesn't have the Fun 2.0 Upgrades. I'm thinking the Vista might stay there long enough for the Splendor to get upgraded? Total speculation, I really don't know but that sounds plausible!

  3. So Carnival didn’t like my review and would not post it on their website, so here it is for you to read.

Overall I would suggest this excursion. The only exception would be if you get sea sick easily, then I would not suggest it.

Carnival states that there is a 35 minute tender ride to this island. They fail to mention that there is a 5-10 bus ride that brings you to the boat first. Also, the tender ride was 45+ minutes. On the ride to and from I could only find a seat on the upper level of the boat and had no coverage from the sun. Therefore I’d suggest bringing a hat and putting on your sun screen in advance in case the same happens to you. Please know that the water is VERY choppy on your ride over to Catalina Island which is completely normal but if you’re prone to sea sickness you won’t want to choose this excursion. I’m never sea sick and even I was feeling queasy by the end of the ride.

That being said, once I arrived at the island it was beautiful! There are so many palm trees to relax under! We received our complimentary drink as we stepped off the dock and we were provided with chairs and umbrellas by the island staff. Be aware that they are expecting a tip for bringing them to you. The water was gorgeous and warm. This is a great island to relax and let your cares drift away.

There were only 2 people walking around trying to sell you things. There was one lady who wanted to massage your feet and one man selling coconuts. The woman we refused twice and she left us alone and we did actually buy a coconut for $3. He cut it open for us to drink! There are souvenir huts/tents, one of the owners came by to tell us about them. My mom and I decided to go take a look and the minute we started to walk towards them we were whisked away by one of the shop owners to their specific shop. We picked out a total of 3 things and he gave us “a discount” of $85. Haha we offered him $40 and he took it as we were about to walk away. We couldn’t do anymore shopping because we told him that was all we had and since the shops we so close he would have known we had more. I’d personally suggest just staying away from the shops and they won’t bother you.

One other thing to mention is that the bathrooms aren't handicap accessible. There are about 20 steps to get up to them.

Like I said though, overall I’d suggest this as long as you aren’t prone to sea sickness! =)

Sorry I don’t know why this was moved here, I posted it as it’s own thread. I’d delete it but that doesn’t look like an option.

  5. What can you do within walking distance to the cruise terminal? I mostly want to see a few sights, do a little shopping and spend time on a quiet beach.

I'd love beach suggestions as well.

    Thanks!

  6. I’m going on a cruise that stops in Curacao the end of next month. However, I’m not really loving any of the excursions that the ship offers. We typically like a sightseeing/beach combo. Any suggestions? We are going on Carnival. Thanks!

  7. I did this tour in December and really enjoyed the experience. I would book early, but one pair on my tour was on the wait list and got to go when others cancelled.

I was very impressed with the amount if time the Captain gave us, I think he spent about 45 minutes with us on the bridge. The tour was about 3 and a half hours, so it takes your whole morning, but I thought it was time well spent.

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

Great info, thank you!!!! Do you recall what day of the cruise the tour was on?

  8. I’m going on my 2rd Carnival Cruise in April. I’ve always missed out on the ship tour as they sell out fast and there aren’t that many tickets available. I was wondering if anyone has done the Breeze Ship Tour and if they thought it was worth it? Thanks!

  9. My first carnival cruise I booked through my RCI membership. It was nice being my first cruise he knew a lot about where you should book your cabin and where you should not ect ect. My second cruise I booked right through carnivals website which was very easy. If you are an experienced cruiser I would say it does not matter how you book.

  10. Just my opinion, but HASBRO has got to be the absolute worst show on the high seas. When we sailed "Breeze" in September, the shows were "The Brits", which was pretty good, "Motor City" which was Very Good, and "Divas" which I didn't like at all. There were other shows as well, like "The Marriage Game" which is very good, and some "fly aboard" entertainers, which are forgettable. In any case, the ones to MISS, IMO, are "Divas", and "Hasbro". ;)

    "SKY"

Thank you for the info! I've heard mixes reviews about Hasbro and The Brits, Motor City sounds good and also the Marriage Game sounds like it'd be funny!

Did anyone try the thriller theater?

  11. Has anyone cruised to Aruba and purchased a day pass at a nearby hotel? I was looking at carnival’s excursions and none really caught my eye so I thought it would be nice to just sit on a beautiful beach.

Are there any hotels within walking distance to the cruise terminal? Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks!
