We started getting the Vacation Protection through Carnival after our 2nd cruise. The way it was explained to us, it just made sense to get it for all the "protection" it provides. Mainly, if something happened to one of us while on board or onshore in a foreign country, missing the ship or if we fell ill or had to be airlifted to a hospital etc...

As the years have gone by, we've been told additional things by PVPs and others: ; vacation protection insurance would also cover theft/loss; if your belongings were stolen on the beach while in port you are covered or if your Camera was damaged (dropped in the water) or something like that you would be reimbursed. These additional coverage items made the cost of the vacation protection seem even more appealing although I've never seen actual documentation stating any of the "additional" coverages.

I had never looked into travel insurance through an outside source. I just got a quote through insuremytrip.com and it looks like we would be better off going through them. Better coverage; provides everything that Carnival's Vacation Protection offers (plus more) for almost $200 less for 5 people.

I'm hoping more people will reply to your thread, I've always wanted to stay in the Spa cabins. We are also going to be in our first Spa Balcony Cabin on the Freedom in November. My husband and I look forward to the easy access to the gym. Wouldn't it be nice to come home from our cruise losing 10 lbs instead of actually gaining this time?

What "perks" come with the Spa rooms? Do you get any spa services?

  3. I will be following this thread for great tips - We are taking our 2 1/2 yr granddaughter, son and daughter in law on our next cruise in November. It will be DIL and granddaughter's 1st cruise. We are all looking forward to it. Eating in the dining room is the only thing that I can see that might be an issue, but we are practicing now - I definitely don't want her to disturb others around us who are trying to enjoy their meals.

  4.
I was 2 cruises short of Platinum when they changed it from 10 cruises to 75 days. Now I'm 12 points short of Platinum - again 2 cruises. I'm sure they'll (again) make Platinum harder to get to.
We are also 12 points away from Platinum and also doing it the harder way after the change too. We will be taking our 10th cruise in November all 10 have been on Carnival. Not hoping for a major change, we already had a welcome back party taken away.
  5. We had a negative experience in Montego Bay about 6 years ago: My husband, myself and our 2 boys (who were 16 & 11) had planned to take the shuttle bus from the ship to the market to shop. As we were about to get off the bus, there was a truckload of men screaming obscenities at us telling us to leave - "Go back to your F'ing boat" Well, that scared the crap outta me so we got back on the bus and ended up going to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville instead. We had a good time there, but not really appropriate for kids - more of a college age or young adult kind of place to go. Some of our friends went on excursions and could not say enough great things about their experiences in Jamaica.

So when we go back to Montego Bay this November, we are already planning on which excursion to take - "The Big 3 - Sky Explorer, Canopy and Bobsled on Mystic Mountain."

Montego Bay, where Carnival docks, is at an industrial port and not a tourist attraction at all. Since you already are planning on going to Doctor's Cave beach you and your family should be fine.

  6. I don't get the door decorating but to each their own BUT you shouldn't use scotch tape to put them up with. Leaves a residue that your steward has to clean up when you leave, not cool. Use sticky tack instead.

I read that earlier - in the past 3 cruises the scotch tape never left any residue that we could see and our stewards have even given me tape to hang my decorations in the past. I will bring the command strips or tacky tape next cruise just in case Carnival Magic is different from the other 3 ships.

  7. We started decorating our cabin doors a few years ago and look forward to it every cruise! We always keep it simple: just a picture and some luau themed cutouts from the Dollar store and always get compliments. It really helps finding our cabin after a late night ;) I've seen a few on here that ordered personalized things online - I would be worried that they might get stolen or damaged. We have seen kids running down the halls messing with others decorations in the past - that's why to us the dollar store stuff works perfectly!

Please share your Door Decorations and if you ever had issues with people messing with your decorations!

  8. We came to Montego Bay on a cruise in 2007 and it really left a bad taste in our mouthes - hoping that things have gotten better over time. Let's just say the locals were vulgar and did not want us there. We ended up taking a cab to Margaritaville and letting the boys swim there and had an okay time, but it really wasn't a great place for 2 young boys more of a college age scene.

We are looking forward to planning an excursion this time around - it's just me and my husband and we are up for whatever; rafting, atvs, zipline...

Anyone have a great experience they want to share? Can't miss location?

  9. My PVP responded to my email and verified that we were not Early Savers this time - "You are booked under the Fall and Winter Sale rate. The Early Saver rate closes 5 months prior to sailing for 7 day cruises, in this case, approximately January 15th. You booked on January 29th." Oh well, It's a great rate anyway and we are counting day til we sail away!!! :D

  10. I booked our June 15th cruise with my Carnival PVP under what I understood to be the Early Saver Rate w/the $50 deposits + free upgrades back in January. I remember very clearly telling him that I will be watching those Price Drops daily trying to get OBC's. He reminded me then that I needed to get the waiver in at least 48 hours before we sail to get the OBC's.

Over the weekend, I noticed a Price Drop of $40 (each for our balcony cabins) so I submitted the Price Drop waiver. I also emailed my PVP just to make sure I did it correctly. He emailed me today saying that we were not actually Early Savers - so we don't get any OBCs for price drops after we made our final payment on April 1st!

  11. I hope so too.

I'll be onboard the same cruise!

Me three! Please let everything go smoothly! Taking my Dad and his new girlfriend, he's such a worry wort - don't need stress - it's our VACATION! :)

Not trying to hijack this thread, but those of you going on the Dream on June 15th should check out the Roll Call - there are several us trying to get some fun things happening for our cruise. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1920725

  12. Sadly (and I still cannot fathom why it wasn't added during the drydock), Conquest does NOT have a Serenity area. Glory does and it's quite nice.

I'm truly bummed about it since I spend my sea days trying to rest and read, and that's difficult to do in most public areas of ships (I sail solo so book the cheapest 1A cabin I can get). I suppose I'll have to try to find a lounger down on the exterior deck on Lobby. :(

If anyone sailing soon can do this, I'd appreciate it - I'd like to see a pic of one of the mid-ship 1As - there are only three, one on Upper, Empress and Verandah - cabins 6393, 7345 and 8357. They're located right behind the laundry rooms, starboard, by the mid-ship stairwell/elevators.

I've searched EVERYWHERE for pics of these cabins. So if anyone boards and passes one with the door open, please stick your head in a take a pic for me! :D

We will be staying in 7419 on June 9th sailing - I will try to snap a few pics of 7345 if I can.
