Does anyone know which Princess ship is currently in dry dock in Portland Oregon ?  I couldn’t get the name from the angle I had today

It’s the Crown. Just got off her on Sunday

I bolded some information that isn't totally accurate.  You can use this over the counter test. along with a third party video monitoring company, for travel.  I recently used this over the counter antigen test, along with Rapid Trace for monitoring the test,( $20.00 per test)and it was valid for traveling on a princess cruise.

However, If you meant to say that this test used by itself is not useable for travel, you are correct.

Is Rapid Trace available to Canadians?

We used them this past Monday. We, also, used the free green box BTNX "Rapid Response" tests. It was very simple and straight forward and we had our "Negative test" e-mail before we even logged off.

We drove to Seattle the next day to board "Ovation of the Seas". I had printed out our results, which we needed to show, along with our boarding pass, in order to gain admission to the terminal. The woman who checked our paper work was looking for our name, the date, and the word "Negative". Nothing else.

Their price is $20 for the first person plus $5 for each additional person--up to 6 people maximum. So, the total cost for my husband and me was CAD$25---the cheapest price I've found. If needed, I will definitely use them again.😊

I have the green box free tests as well (BC). Does it need to be a new box or are they more concerned that the tests inside are new?  There is not QR on my box

My partner and I have been to Alaska before - in 2019. We did a 10 day on the Grand and fell in love with Alaska - but that cruise did not go to Glacier Bay. We were in Skagway (did the train), Juneau (whale watch and hike), Ketchikan (rainforest hike) and Victoria (explored the city) and scenic cruised Tracy Arm.

But we kept hearing about how wonderful Glacier Bay is - that is the entire reason we booked this current cruise (August 20).

So - for people like me, who have been to Alaska already but not Glacier Bay, would you stick with the Crown knowing that our ports will be cut dramatically but still get to see Glacier Bay?

I would go in your case. Glacier Bay doesn’t seem to have been affected by the port issues and it is so worth it. If you manage to not have Icy Strait cancelled ( so far, it looks like only the May 14th cruise made it there so far) it is a charming authentic town. So worth it.

  5. Our cruise has a stop in LA from 7 am to 5 pm. On Princess. The only excursion apart from Universal Studios are en route to the airport. Is there shuttles available to say Hollywood, Santa Monica Pier etc from the cruise port? Is anything walkable? What do you suggest that isn’t too far from the ship or easy to get back to in time?

  6. Can anyone answer this for me?  If a cruiseline cancels your cruise, do you also receive a refund for the travel and medical insurance you have purchased for the cruise?? What if it’s privately purchased?? It’s over $300 that I shouldn’t be out if I wasn’t the one who cancelled. Thanks

Have been reading about the problems with Crown Princess.  We are scheduled to sail from Vancouver to California and back in September and our final payment is due June 24th.  Should we cancel?

I’m also booked for this sailing so following the Crown closely both here and on Facebook. I still plan on making final payment and going. Here are my thoughts. It’s a 10 day round trip cruise that for me, does not include any flights.( I live in Victoria do it’s a ferry ride away) I have been to all the ports before and apart from LA, not really planning any excursions. I will Not  be heartbroken if the ports are shortened or canceled, I’m travelling with 12 family and friends and really look forward to the ship and sea days the most. From what I read, the crew has been awesome, activities still going on, food is being prepared for me and I have the beverage package!! My worry is that the cruise will be canceled outright. Will I be out any money? Maybe insurance?? That being said, I will get a full refund and possibly some FCC for the trouble. If I was doing a bucket list cruise to Alaska, or this was a once in a lifetime destination, I would cancel. Hope that helps.

If you look at previous cancelled cruises, it may give you an idea of how it

is handled.  Doesn’t mean it will be the same, but just an idea.

Here is a copy of the previous Crown cancellation on their website.

Interesting. The problem I see with replacement cruises is that in our case- there are no other cruises from Vancouver. Like the last cruise noted- one was Seattle other San Francisco- I doubt Princess would pick up the extra cost for flights if one lived in Seattle

  9. I’m in a bit of a different position. My cruise is a 10 day round trip Pacific Coastal September 22.  Then it is scheduled for dry dock immediately after. If it’s still puttering along by then, it will be interesting as to what they plan to do to our ports (SF,SD, SB &LA. ) I’ve been to all of these before- booked it more for our families joining who are first timers. Emailed Princess 2 weeks ago asking about whether they we’re waiting for dry dock to repair this issue. No word yet. Talked to my TA and he feels it’s exaggerated, all ships are going slower in AK. ( I think he doesn’t want to lose his commission on all our cabins) he is also on this cruise. So my dilemma- do I carry on with final payment and hope for OBC if ports are altered or cancelled? If entire cruise is canceled ( as happened to the Carribean) will I get some great FCC to go with my refund? What if they end the cruise half way, fly us all back to Vancouver? Will areas of the ship be closed off in preparation for dry dock?? For me, it’s the 10 day cruise that I want- not do much the ports but do want some time ashore. What a mess. The way Princess is handling this is atrocious.

  10. Had the bev pkg on NCL (in which you pay the 15% on the “free” perk) and found the convenience alone was worth it plus I could try new drinks and if it tasted like turpentine I could leave it and not feel I had to choke it down as I paid for it. I have it on my next Princess cruise as a perk for balcony. I worked out the difference as my pay as I go, coffee card water package and the soda and more which meant my balcony was $100 more than my oceanview without the perks. Got free grats too. Bonus.

  11. Loving the review!! I just have a few questions regarding the dining restaurants. Which are complimentary and what fees are charged for the others. Also how much was the go cart and Laser tag. Additional fee is not enough info!! Ill be seeing the ship on a Friday, I walk my dogs on the Breakwater.

  12. Why were they not able to meet the ship at the next port? Did they not have trip insurance? Then at least by then the passports/luggage would have been located. I get the hectic part of the cruise port but I also heed the info of having copies of them made and kept separate.
