  1. We have done this twice and loved it both times! You can rent a cabana by the pool/waterslide area for $25.00.

How do you secure the cabana if booking thru cruiseline excursion? We definitely want the cabana as we have a traveler who needs to avoid the sun.

  2. DCL die-hard fan here too... just got off the Divina yesterday... would be happy to share our comparisons, thoughts, etc as soon as I get home/settled!

The one caveat is It Is Not Disney! and while it's impossible to not compare, you really cannot... MSC is a whole different product!

  3. Why do you always give the same sarcastic response? I got the same exact answer from you months ago when asking for help with my son. It is not helpful, and totally judgemental. Please, either answer the question asked, or move on.

To answer the op's question, we sailed on the Divina in July. We were told by our butler that pants were required in the dining room for dinner but it was NOT enforced. My kids (15 and 13) wore nice shorts and shirts on all but the formal nights. Not sure if it's the same now, but that was our experience. We saw others in shorts and jeans.

    Thank you!!

  4. IMO I think cruise lines, most of them anyway, are realizing that most pax want to be comfortable while enjoying their vacation. Most passengers prefer to have a choice of what they want to wear, no matter which dining venue they're eating in and have don't worry about the other passengers' attire.

There will always be some pax who enjoy getting dressed up but with the airlines charging for luggage and people not wanting to carry heavy luggage, it makes it easier to travel without the tux and long gowns enabling most to go light.

Also, what difference does it make to you what I've chosen to wear to dinner? I don't get that at all. When I dine in a group, I notice what others at the table are wearing but don't ask me what the guy at the next table has on, I couldn't care less, it has zero impact on me. Sorry if it bothers others what I wear but I won't be changing my preference any time soon.... SMH :o

    BIG DITTO TO THIS POST!!

The reduction of luggage is a driving factor for us as well... plus, I have to attend a number of corporate events wearing a long or cocktail dress and it's nice to be able to leave them behind when on vacation!

  5. Maybe its a good time to teach him about proper dress code and dinner attire ?

    Seriously?

Just because his choice would be to wear shorts on his vacation, does not mean he doesn't know proper dress code/dinner attire. He prefers comfort where it's appropriate hence my inquiry on his behalf as to the appropriateness of shorts in the MDR. When societal norms call for it, he "cleans up" quite nicely, and dresses appropriately for his job each and every day, whether it be a hard hat & coveralls or a suit & tie.

Maybe it's time to quit being judgmental. The food tastes the same whether he has on shorts or pants I'm pretty sure.

THANK YOU FOR THIS!! You basically said what I was thinking! However, I would hate for my son to feel out of place but it sounds like he should be just fine whatever he chooses to wear!

  6. I've never heard of it this way and have been on every cruise line lol

The show is always at 10pm after dinner (for late seating). I've never heard of the show before dinner. This is going to be awkward

Disney does it this way as well.

  7. If your son wears nice jeans (no holes),he'll be OK. I don't think that 20-year old young man would want to wear shorts for dinner at dining room.

My 20yo son would wear shorts year-round everywhere if he could, even in the snow! As a Gold level member on DCL, he has never packed pants for a cruise!

  8. I had read here and other places that the Divina MDR dress code prohibits jeans, shorts, and tee shirts for dinner, yet I cannot find that information on the MSC website at all, whatsoever!

Is it possible that it has changed? I do not want to be buying and lugging slacks for my 20yo son if it is not required that he wear them.

Does the daily navigator maybe spell out the dress code (recent guests)?

    Thanks!

  9. I think from memory it was a warning about eating raw meat and seafood. I have looked at the items it's against on all my menu photos and it's steak or certain sea food things.

    AHHHH, THANK YOU!!!

That makes perfect sense! I am just excited that a form of surf & turf is on the menu w/out an upcharge!

Thank you again for sharing so much awesome info from the Divina!

  10. I truly enjoy specialty dining on other cruise lines, so I thought about adding the specialty dinner package when we sailed on the Divina, but ultimately decided not to. Friends who had dined at Eataly told us that it wasn't worth the extra money. The venue alone didn't look that worth of an extra fee.

We didn't try the specialty pizza because we found the regular (free of charge) pizza served at the Calumet and Manitou cafeteria to be superior to what we've experienced on other cruise lines. So we didn't bother paying extra for pizza when what was offered for free was satisfactory.

About Bella vs Fantastica: we had originally booked a Bella stateroom but decided to upgrade to a Fantastica class simply because all of the Bella staterooms available at the time of booking were smack above the Black and White lounge (and we were a bit concerned about noise issues). Otherwise, the added perks of booking a Fantastica stateroom were not important for us. We didn't order room service one time during our cruise. We did get an enhanced kids program (which my kids enjoyed), but I'm positive they would've been perfectly fine without those enhancements.

What are the Fantastica enhancements to the Kids Programming?

  11. Thank you Kim for an incredible, informative, helpful review of your Divina cruise! We set sail on her (7 cabins, 16 people) shortly and your review definitely planted a few must-dos and don't bothers in my head!!

Thanks for the inside scoop on the elevator, I will be on the lookout for that! Also thanks for the sports bar info... we typically find a place on every cruise where we tend to gravitate to, for this cruise, methinks it will be the sports bar!! Thanks again!

  12. They do not match kids status. We cruise so much that our 6 year old has reached diamond herself. However, MSC does not match under 18 year olds.

They absolutely match on under 18... my DCL Gold 8 year old was status matched on MSC as Gold also. Not sure who told you they don't? I submitted it at the same time I submitted the rest of my family and he was matched along with the rest of us!

  13. I hope this is not much to ask but could you find out if the sports bar food is a free venue and a pic of the menu would be great? Do you know what movies are playing under the stars? Thanks!

I am also anxious to see a copy of the Sports Bar menu (and confirm that there is no add'l charge for it)... Please and thank yoU!!
