In Cozumel, I would recommend Paradise Beach.  It has a beach and pool.  It has an all inclusive price but you can go a la carte for $3 per person.  Food and drinks are good.

In Roaten you can get a private tour for around $100 plus whatever you want to do.  Rony's tours and Victor Bodden are the best known.  The drivers will give a tour and take you to see sloths and monkeys plus take you to the beach.

I have never been to Belize.  I am going for the fist time in January.  Since it is a Tender port, you may consider a ship excursion.  That is what I am doing.

I don't think that your family status will be an issue on any of the port stops.  The Liberty does sail from Texas, which is very conservative outside of Austin (where I live).  I wouldn't expect any issues as Texans are extremely polite and friendly, but this may be the first time that some have encountered a family like yours.

You will love Liberty!  Have a great cruise and be sure to post how it went.  I have the same itinerary only a few weeks after you.

    Thank you very helpful!

  2. Hi all,

I would love some advice. My husband and I are sailing on Liberty leaving 12/22 along with our 2 small kiddos- baby is 6 months toddler is 3. We’ll definitely try putting them in nursery and aquanauts while on board, and we’re looking for little kid friendly activities at the ports- Roatan, Belize City, and Cozumel.

We’re pretty chill and easily entertained. Would appreciate good transportation recommendations (car rental, taxi, shuttle bus with car seats... we’re schlepping ours from home and not super long driving times), good beach recommendations with calm water and shade, playgrounds, kid friendly restaurants, etc.

We are willing to book shore excursions through the ship if they aren’t too expensive and we are also willing to do things on our own.

One more piece: we’re a family with 2 dads so gay friendly is crucial.

    Thanks all!!!

We are in the same situation. Our adoption is scheduled to be final by August our cruise is end of Sept. the new birth certificate takes 2-6 months. We have been told, the original birth certificate, and finalized adoption paperwork showing the new name should be all you need.

You will meet the requirement of a Birth certificate with the original.

I can  post again when we get back if anything back fires.

    Royal wasn’t helpful,

Hi!  Sorry this took me so long to respond.  Yes I just called Royal and they said original birth certificate along with court order showing finalized adoption is ok.  We will not  have the updated birth certificate by the time w e cruise.  Can you please contact me after you cruise to confirm everything went ok?  I'd be very grateful.  adamrosenwasser@gmail.com thanks!

  4. Hi! We’ve just adopted our 2nd child- a baby boy. He was born May 25th 2019. Since he was born in Texas, we won’t be able to finalize the adoption until 6 months after birth- Nov 25th at the earliest.  We are hoping to go on a cruise over Xmas, but I am worried we won’t have a birth certificate by that point- we can’t get it issued until after finalization.

Has anybody been in a situation like this before? Any suggestions? Alternative paperwork? Thanks!

  5. We have noticed that since having lifeguards the parents seems to watch their children less. They go to the bar etc. because there is a lifeguard

And this is terrible. Parents need to be with their children at all times in the pool. Also, lifeguards are great but they aren’t a guarantee a child won’t drown.

  6. I would like to meet a parent who can claim they have NEVER lost track of their child for one second until their child turned 18. And as someone previously stated it only takes seconds to happen. Cruises present a different environment, possibly a language barrier, big crowds, and pools. Not the safest combination. I’m happy or see lifeguards.

As a former lifeguard (Long long time ago!) I feel the need to add its a pretty boring job overall, and it’s tough to stay vigilant. The staring/scanning at a swimmer or swimmers is part of the training. Lose that to be “polite” and you will lose your job

Its very easy to lose track of children. And if your child is in the pool, you should be in there next to them at all times until they are a strong swimmer. Not enough to just watch from the pool’s edge.

  7. It’s great to have lifeguards and as a former lifeguard myself, it infuriates me when a parent is not watching their swimming child(ren).

Until your child is a competent swimmer (can swim 100 yards without stopping and tread water for 10 mins) a parent should not be more than one foot away from their child at all times in the water.
