We take our own , the day of the straw is over. When my granddaughter came home from college she informed me that I am killing whales and other sea creatures. She got me some bamboo straws and showed me how to clean them. Thank goodness she went back to school.
isn't it wonderful! She is learning so much at college.

I hope it's good as I was assigned 8143 exact location on the port side for my 5/26 sailing. From my experience with the ship I think it should be a good location, using the aft stairs to get to the buffet is very handy. Only worry I have is if there is a crew door across the hall. Sometimes they can generate some extra noise. I booked GTY and was assigned this cabin within hours and felt it was a good assignment as most everything else had a connecting door.
That is my concern too. I booked GTY and room 8148 was assigned a couple of hours later.

Who throws straws overboard? They go right into the trash along with all the other plastics on the ship. This whole straw thingy is "much ado about nothing."
Amen. I have never seen people throwing their plastic straws over board.

Hopefully Celebrity won't stop giving out straws.

When you board and go to your storeroom you'll find a card there with your table assignment. We don't wait for cabins to be ready to find out, but go to the MDR as soon as we board to check that our assignment matches our pre-cruise request.
Can I request a table for two now? (Cruising on June 5th).

Yes. There will be a card with your table assignment n your cabin when you board.
We would prefer a table for two. I was planning to go to the MDR first thing after boarding. How would I know what they have assigned us if we haven't been to the room yet?
-
Are you assigned a table before sailing?

Me neither! They call this 'revolutionary'? I thought that going from black and white TV to color was truly revolutionary.
But doing the reverse and calling it revolutionary??? That must have been one tremendous sale on grey paint!
My father in law loves gray. He try's to use it whenever he paints. But then, he's color blind.

OK, how is room 8148 on the Summit?
-
Where is it best to ask about a specific room?
-
So, I guess I should keep a good eye on the weather right before the cruise.

If I book an excursion, through Celebrity, and decide not to go, (pouring rain, or whatever), can I cancel and get my money back ?
-
Funny, our first cruise was three years ago, on the Summit. We get a free upgrade to Aqua class. When we were waiting to board, we passed the time talking to the couple sitting next to us. They were going to be in Concierge class. He was giving me gabs about how they would be eating in the MDR and we would have to eat with the "peasants" at the buffet.
As we were eating at the buffet, here comes the couple. He says, "I couldn't eat any of that crap". They ate with us and the rest of the "peasants".

Different kind of tour. The taxi tour is a private tour where you can direct where to go and how much time to spend at stops. Your tour probably had ten to twenty people. Understandably some have to be price conscious, we were lucky to do it a year I went with 6 friends. You can do a shared less expensive tour shared minibus tour like the cruise line tour less expensive than with the cruise line. For example Ricky’s minibus tours are about $65 per person for a five or six hour tour.

Where can I find something like "Ricky's" ?

From what I've read, $50 an hour for 1-4 people, $70 an hour for 5-7 people.
So, for my wife and I it would be about $200, (with a tip), for a few hour tour.
Last year we took the BKG6 tour for $95.75 each. I see it's $129.00 each now. It was 5 hours though.

IMHO, and based on personal experience, not a dang thing, lol
That's my opinion too. The first night at the MDR has been the first time to arrange gluten free meals.

That short itinerary is difficult. If you go to both Horseshoe Bay and Gibbs the same day you are not going to have much time at Horseshoe with those short days. If you do both the same day it would be better to take taxis rather than public buses as you are thinking about doing in the other thread because public buses could be 30 minutes apart and are not that reliable. You can't really time when the next public bus will be there unless you have just missed one.
You can definitely do a four hour tour. The Blue Flag taxis drivers will do it. Three hours is the minimum. You can do a lot in four hours if you stick to either the West End or East End for the tour.
How much does that cost?

My wife has celiac disease. When we cruise, we check the allergy box. Always wonder what that does.

I expressed that I was not satisfied eating the same meal each night. ( night 4) The waiter was rude.. truly. When I said that this was not what I ordered ( very politely) He grabbed my plate , scraped the carrots and broccoli in the food station and slammed my plate in front of me. . Then said here.. Our 8 table mates were as shocked as I was. After the meal he pulled a scrap of paper from his pocket and showed me.. meat and veggies... ( except I ordered the lamb and veggies that were on the menu) I said this was NOT what I ordered and he said " YES IT WAS .. loudly The next night I went to the buffet and while standing waiting for my lamb, the waiter shows up ( during dining time) He kept asking if he and I were alright. Begged us to return the next night and promised a proper meal. We did . It was lobster night.. Guess what .. plain lobster with carrots and broccoli. He ignored me all through dinner. I wanted BUTTER !!. The maitre D brought me a new dinner but the others had dessert. I never returned to the dining room !! As we sat to eat the next night ,, to our surprise out table mates joined us .. All this because I can't eat garlic. Also can't eat pine nuts . Love all the other nuts that are often used in dishes but got none. When I asked for what was on the menu .. waiter says NO .. I am protecting you.. no nuts .. seriously!! Management were involved and said that he was 'dealt with' .. but he was at our table and did not speak to me. There were several other things that happened as well. After I returned home I called and was given credit for the grats that went to him. 15 Celebrity cruises and never a complaint out of us. We are people who clean our cabins and remove our buffet dished from the table to make it easy for crew.
When you remove your buffet dishes from the table, where do you put them?

Check the Mast Grille on the solstice class ships. They keep a variety of canned sodas on ice behind the counter. That's where I found Coke Zero as well as Diet Coke. They probably have Caffeine free Diet, also.Thank you for the tip, but we will be on the Summit.
-
We have been on three cruises with Celebrity. We would stop at a couple of bars and pick up some cans of soda and bring them back to our room. Always had a good stock of soda.
On the first day, I asked the room steward to empty the frig and to bring ice twice a day.
Last month, we took a cruise with Royal Caribbean. Their soda plan was a giant pain! The cup thing just didn't work for us at all.
We will be back with Celebrity this June.
The only problem we have had is, we prefer Caffeine Free Diet Coke. They seem to be out of it a lot. I complained once, to guest services. They sent six cans to our room. After that, we just got used to the shortage and had plain Diet Coke.

Does anyone have a picture of the menu in the MDR on embarkation day?

So your “savings” is $1400. You gave up some perks that didn’t add up for you, the wifi and drinks were never really “free” anyway. Now you see their cost.
You should be able to move to any other available cabin in the same category if you are interested by the way.
I didn't know I could change rooms. I've always picked rooms on the left side. I'm hoping the bed faces forward, like the rooms on the left, in case I can't change. I do like being near the rear elevators though.
Why no straws?

I never use straws. My wife, on the other hand, has sensitive teeth. It is very painful for her to drink without a straw.
