  1. I hope this doesn't sound daft but here goes anyway; where does the water come from? Are there huge tanks of it in the bowels of the ship or is it manufactured through a desalination process?

On Celebrity Infinity, it is distilled from sea water using the excess heat generated by the engines. After it is converted from steam back to water, it is treated like most cities do their drinking water. It is very good water, some of the best we have had. Tastes just like natural spring water, in my opinion.

  2. We sailed on Infinity the last couple of weeks. Upon boarding in San Diego, I signed up for the wine and dine package for five bottles and five reservations in the SS United States. This turned out to be a great deal. For $399 (which included the gratuities) my wife and I had five wonderful meals and five great bottles of wine for the same price that is normally charged for just the speciality dining. (5 nights, two people each night, $40 per person per night equals $400). So the wine was, in essence, free. And this was good wine that sold for as much as $80 per bottle as shown on their wine list, not the simple, one dimensional wines they serve by the glass.

Will do this again on our next cruise.

  3. Hope the two of you are having a great time!!!

Hi Anne, it was great to meet you on the cruise. I did hear from Anita that she is going to Millennium on January 28th so that will be one change for sure. All the best, Larry

  4. ^^ Love your pic Franklin!!!

You must be referring to the wine glass. Guilty!! - we are winos... Love your NZ Sauv Blanc wines by the way. Not supposed to mention brand names here but I have probably had 50 or more of them over the years. We are looking forward to visiting NZ in 2013.

  5. We just returned home today from the Constellation (Turkey and Greece) and very much enjoyed our welcoming glass of 'bubbly' (plus several others ... :D) during the course of a lovely cruise. Thank you Celebrity!

Some of the posts in this thread make me smile, especially in light of watching 'Bottle Shock' on Singapore Airlines on the way home. A very funny movie!

A fun movie based on the 1976 wine tasting in Paris of French and California wines. Wikipedia has a really good article on this that you might find interesting.

I used to fly Singapore Air all the time. One of the best in the world.

  6. Great! We are not heavy drinker either but on vacaiton. We sit and relax! Remember it 5 o'clock somewhere.

I think it also depends on just how much you expect to drink at 5 o'clock. We are winos and rarely have a mixed drink and never a martini. We always buy a wine package of several bottles and have that with evening meals. During the day, we may have two coffees each and a couple of waters and iced tea. So for us, even a non-alcohol package would not pay for itself. I don't mind signing the chits.

  7. Just in case they are doing a bait and switch, I have printed the purchase confirmation page from the "manage my reservation" section. It clearly says we get a set of glasses. Celebrity will honor that, I am sure, as to do otherwise would raise too much of a stink on these pages and in the guest services on the ship. Riedel is subsidizing these workshops for sure so the net out of pocket to Celebrity for the glasses is low.

  8. Interesting. I am on the Solstice in November. I just booked the Riedel Wine tasting for my sister and me on-line. Not sure if you can't book it because you are in the UK?

Also it was only $17.50 each? I verified and it does say we get the wine glasses. Wonder why the difference in price? Lower quality glasses?

Thanks for the posting. We are on Infinity for the Panama Canal Cruise in October and I just booked my wife and I into the Riedel Workshop. We also only paid $34.50 for the two of us ($17.25 each). They must be having a special on some of the cruises. I checked out the Equinox for our March cruise and it is still $82 per person. Below is an extract of the website for our cruise that I found by going to "manage your reservations".

    Riedel Comparative Wine Crystal Workshop

Conducted by highly-trained Celebrity sommeliers, this seminar includes the opportunity to savor four different varietals from our superb collection of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, and their matching stemware. The wines are transferred into each glass to illustrate how the aromas and flavors of the wine change from glass to glass. Participants receive a set of Riedel stemware to take or ship home (shipping not included).
