  1. we are looking at river cruising next year. my question is this: if we have verizon international phone upgrade will we have service while cruising. i know we will while in port, but what about while moving. i was hoping we'd be close enough to shore to have service most of the time.

    thanks

    steve

  2. first time seaborn cruiser, i usually cruise on oceania and azamara..

i'm looking for a little clarity on men's dress in the evening on casual nights. i am used to dressing for dinner with slacks and a nice polo shirt or colorful golf shirt. i know that on formal nights i'll dine in a venue other than the main dining room, but will i feel out of place dressed this way. just trying to determine that i will feel comfortable on seaborn.

    thanks

    steve

  3. i haven't been on celebrity in 10 years. however i was on rccl twice this year and the difference in the main dining room on two sailings only two months apart was so bad that both families sailing have sworn off rccl for good. many of the same changes occured on rccl as celebrity which makes sense since they are owned by the same company. there was a new menu put in effect in between the two cruises which we did not anticipate. on the positive side, all else was as good as ever. now we just got off an oceania cruise a few weeks ago and never expected a celebrity or rccl cruise would be comparable food wise. that explains much of the price difference. looking at the new celebrity menus i am sure i will find several choices but my wife is pickier and i suspect she will be ordering apps for her mains several nights. in summary, we go on mass market ships with lower expectations on the food but high ones for the overall experience. i assume that will still work on our upcoming one on ascent in february.

  4. WHITE NIGHT

so glad to hear that white night is back. when i last checked with azamara they told me that they couldn't run them due to covid but hoped to have it back soon.

was the food as good as i remember with lobsters, shrimp, apps, carved roast beef, etc.

    thanks,

    steve

  6. i have a private tour scheduled for santiago de cuba on the full day we are in port. will we be tendering in to the original location or to the cargo terminal. i would need to let the tour guide know of this ahead of time. when can we expect azamara let us know in writing of these changes. i am only now 2 weeks from sailing.

Currently on the Dec.11 Journey Cuba cruise. Lizt Alonzo Dance Company performance was spectacular. No problems getting on and off the ship in Havana. Did private tour with no questions asked. You can now pay for visa using OBC. The ship is full. Interestingly there are 500 passengers aboard who have never cruised with Azamara. We missed Grand Cayman today due to sea conditions. Tenders couldn't dock safely. MSC Opera also turned away. So it's another sea day as we head to Cienfuegos to enjoy more of Cuba.

bonnie can you verify this policy on the use of onboard credit to pay for visas. i keep hearing different policies regarding this. we leave on jan. 5 so would like to know this before we board.

  8. diamond diva thank you so much for this valuable info. since we have a full night planned with dinner, then drinks at a rooftop bar, and then a show we booked on our own, i think we will stay with our original plan.

too bad though that we don't also get to see this type of show elsewhere, but if the dock is unavailable in santiago then the show cannot go on. unfortunately we are left with a cruise very different from the one we booked and we are out the free night that is offered by the cruise line in the price. unfortunately all of these changes happened long after the final payment. i am sure we will enjoy this cruise, but the one we ended up with is a day and a night short in havana and has an extra night in santiago that can't even be used. azamara is not earning a good reputation with these kinds of late changes and also on other threads with confusion about pricing. as i said, i am sure we will enjoy this cruise, why not it's 10 days in paradise, but i am leery if i will be seeking out azamara again. this is our first with them and have done several with windstar and oceania with none of these logistical problems.

  9. diamond diva, as far as the new havana azamazing night is concerned, could you provide a little more info on the show itself. we currently have reservations for one of the shows that focus on the music of the buena vista social club and wouldn't want to miss that. also do you recall what time it begins?

  10. pretty disappointing. i heard so much about the azamazing night but had already been informed it would be in santiago. we already scaled back our plans from 2 nights in havana to only 1. now our choice is to take the azamazing night or cancel the nighttime plans we arranged on our own. and now we have a night in santiago that i doubt anyone would use.

is this new night available on the shore excursions and do you know what time it begins. we would love to have dinner ashore in havana.

    thanks,

    steve

  11. hi bonnie: i am concerned about the change of plans for the azamazing night in santiago. i, too, am on the jan. 5 sailing and our itinerary was changed from the original one to make a night in santiago for the azamazing night possible. however, that resulted in a loss of one of the nights in havana. if they are moving the azamazing night to havana we will lose our only free night there and have a hole in the schedule in santiago. bonnie, do you know if they are planning to put the azamazing night in havana, and if so will they go back to the original schedule.

  12. we just received a similar upgrade for our february cruise. not as early as yours, but still almost three months before departure. we got a great price when we booked; only saw that price the day i noticed it drop, and the room is now back to $600 higher so they aren't going to lose on my upgrade. i assume they were really heavy on balconies.

  13. while i can't lay claim to over 20 windstar cruises, we have been on 6 with another booked this february. i have always said that high expectations leads to more bad reviews than good ones. for many people who are used to cruising on mass market lines, the windstar ships are older and more subtle. they don't have the glitz of the newer ships and actually look more like the elegant ships of before. they will wonder, "what am i paying more money for. these ships don't offer anything". it is simply a bad match and the smallness and camaraderie of these ships was not a high priority and the subtleness of the refined service was not noticed. to me, windstar is the ultimate best value out there. great service, food that is several notches above that of the mass market ships, a relaxed pace aboard ship, and a feel for the old kind of cruising. and only a notch above them in pricing. i do still take cruises on some mass market ships especially when shopping for price, but then i always lament, not complain, that they don't offer what windstar does.

  14. we are on the 10 night cuba cruise on january 5. this cruise only overnights in havana and leaves port by 6:00 on the other 2 stops in cuba. i assume, then that the white night will be in havana but is there any way to know beforehand which night. we are planning on a very extensive night ashore with dinner and drinks and then a show, but also want to attend the special night aboard. how can i find out this info.early.
