Both members in a cabin have to purchase Silver Spirits Package.  I have never seen it unbundled - ever.  If you husband doesn't drink, then you are likely to do much better just buying what you want yourself!  And don't forget you get beer and wine at lunch and dinner.  The prices are quite reasonable.  This is from our last cruise in December.

Are you sure these are current prices. Just got off phone with Viking rep who told me that drinks run from $8 - $15 each.

I think you have set yourself up for failure    by NOT doing your research

I wonder  what flight Viking would have given you for the same ports??

I've done my research. Not setting us up  for failure. The cruise will be wonderful as were the other 12 I've taken. It's the transportation that isn't very good.  Never cared for Vikings routing ether but never was as long as these flights and have flown all over the world regarding flying to and from cruises. I do believe $300 to just talk to someone  about alternate routes is a little much.

Not "very roundabout".  The distance you will fly will only be about 400 miles more than what a hypothetical nonstop from MCO to BCN would be.

You can see great circle distances by using the Great Circle Mapper.

So, just what kind of "non-roundabout" routing had you thought wouldn't be "pretty bad"?

I would think MCO to Miami , or Orlando to Atlanta to Barcelona going over especially without a 5 hour layover.

  4. First time going on an Oceania cruise, a transatlantic. The O'life flights that we have been assigned are pretty bad; flying Air Canada Rouge from Orlando to Toronto to Barcelona (seems very roundabout, since we are starting in Orlando, FL.; and Rio to Sao Paulo, Brazil to Miami to Orlando on return; the last on an Airline I have never even heard of, Latam.  There is one 5 hour layover at Toronto, and another 3 hr in Miami.  Then there is no transportation provided from airport, or ship to airport. We were advised that the shuttle from Barcelona would cost us an extra $ 80 pp to get from the airport to the ship and we had to find one on our own.

In my opinion I can not believe this is the best they can do but perhaps they would like to reset us up with better flights for an additional $175 pp. We have cruised with Viking on the last 5 cruises and while their flight arrangements could be better also, they do provide shuttles to the ship from the airport.  Their  extra help for a flight(s) is only $100pp.

While we chose Oceania over Viking  this time, we chose Oceania to see the difference in cruising as well as the destinations. While we always enjoy cruising, given all the extra charges, Oceania will not be our future choice.

  5. I have a slightly different question. I have seen the bar list of wines on-line. I'm assuming these can be purchased by the glass. If we get the "silver seas " package do we get to choose only from the wines on the menu or are there wines available in addition to those on the menu?

  6. That is not good to hear. Viking really fell down on the job on that one. Every person who answers the phones on the ships (ocean and river) should be able at least to tell you where the ship is docked and what address to give to a cab driver. At the same time, at least something good has come of your experience and now we know that even if we are late, we should look for the Viking airport reps first. If we don't see them as we emerge from customs, then we can panic and call the ship.

Plus, look at suitcases in baggage area and see which have their Viking tags. Their owners may be another source of information. :)

  7. The Viking passengers that you tagged along with had their flight arrangements made through Viking Air, and this service includes transfers to & from the airport. Since Viking Air did not arrange your air transportation, you weren't entitled to ride along with them. You could have asked the Viking representative at the airport for directions to the port. It is possible that you occupied space on the bus that had been paid for by someone else. I assure you, Viking knows their process very well.

Are you cranky this morning? Don't know where you got the idea that we did not use Viking Air? We did use them, therefore were entitled to use their transport, therefore the shock of being told we were on our own. Sorry you didn't understand. I assure you that on that day Viking ship personnel did not know their process.

I try to avoid calling the Viking switchboard. I've heard too many stories here where guests were not helped or were given wrong information. The operators have never sailed with Viking as a guest and just don't know how things really work.

Viking does make sure that we have the telephone number for the ship in our information packets and if you are held up en route, the ship is the best place to call (if nothing else, they can tell you where they are docked).

The call I made was to the ship. The person who answered had no idea of how transfers work, nor could she find someone who did. She told us we were on our own basically regarding getting to the ship. :(

  9. We're getting ready for our 3rd Viking cruise (1 River, 2 Ocean) and I find the Viking Airline Reservation system to be Viking's Achilles Heel. Flights are scheduled at very bad times, into airports that seem to be out of the way resulting in crazy itineraries. There is little or no flexibility unless one wants to book their own flights, and that is not a bad idea. On our first Viking trip, our connecting flight was late, resulting in our being late at destination airport (still during the day). I called Viking about our transfer and they said I had to make my own arrangement to the ship, that they would not pick us up, but couldn't even give me an address to tell the cab driver that we would have to get ourselves. While still in the baggage area we saw other flights come in with bags with Viking tags on them. We found their owners and low and behold the Viking rep who was meeting them. We simply rode to the ship with them. Viking was completely unaware of their own process.

  10. Helloo cpgrneyes,

At this point, no. I haven't heard of the OBC work-around being extended beyond our August 2017 voyages.

I did ask again (via email) when I read your OP. The silence (aka No Response) to me signifies we are not ready to commit one way or the other. And if I speculate even further from the silence, I'm going to stick my neck out and guess that the permanent fix is making good progress...which would mean no need to extend the work-around. But this is just my usual optimism

As soon as I hear anything one way or the other I'll let you know.

P.S. I forgot to thank you for your booking, and your enthusiasm to get your trip all squared away. Thank you!

Once again - how can the "Chief Blogging Officer" for Azamara be so in the dark about company policy? If they will not even answer you Bonnie, what hope is there for a customer? :o

  11. While we are looking forward to our 1st cruise with Azamara, but I am dismayed as to the subject of using OBC. There are continuing questions and conflicting answers from Azamara staff. I can not believe that there is no one singular answer to how SBC can be used and when. This isn't rocket science. Surely, the policy can not be one that seems to change so often leaving the past and present questioners to figure out what they can use this credit for and when. I thought Bonnie had finally gotten a definitive answer several months ago ( we have made copies of past responses) but it appears that there is no correct answer, or if there is one it is lost among the very different responses from Azamara staff. I can only hope that the cruise will be a memorable one, not like Azamara's seemingly ever-changing policies.

  12. I don;t know whether I am being a PITA but it seems to me that getting the drinks included is a major plus. If someone is not happy with the drinks or wines included instead of complaining they have two choices.

    1. buy an upgraded package

    2. pick a different drink or wine

I am just a happy camper that it is included and in all those choices of wine and drinks I can find something to make me pacified.

    Kathy

I was not complaining and am sorry you are in an arguing frame of mind. Here's my question that you seem to have found offensive. "One more question (or two) -- Can you bring wine on board with you when you board? can you buy wines on the docking locations and bring them on the ship? :p

Why would you respond so cruelly? but I am happy that you are a happy camper. As for me, I enjoy cruising with people and not camping.

  13. My problem is my fussiness. Of the reds, I drink Merlot and Pinot Noir. Whites, Sauvignon Blanc or a dry white. Would these be the ones used in the daily wines (not special packages. If not does anyone know what kind they serve?
