  1. We are flying to Newark in 10 days. I really need to think about getting the luggage out. Super excited about going to NY for a couple of days. We have plenty of things we want to do this time around.

We'll start out with a comedy club on Thurs. night. Plans for MOMA,Hayden Planetarium,Brooklyn Bridge,One World Observatory, and whatever else we can fit in. We may have to substitute The Rock for One World pending weather and availability. No matter,it will be a fun 2 1/2 days.

Looking forward to meeting you guys on board. Will look for a FOD meeting and will be at the RC M&M.

I'll try to make it to the FOD meeting as well. I hope it doesn't interfere with my dinner plans!

Sounds like you're gonna have a good time in the city! Should be nice this time of year!

  2. I try to swim a mile a day while onboard the ship (it is the only way I can face dinner!), sometimes a challenge to avoid the kids and "flesh bergs" that seem to go out of their way to get in my way... I find port days are a good way to catch up by staying aboard. I've been to all the ports a number of times.

You're a better man than me. You won't catch me swimming laps lol, and that sure isn't gonna stop me from eating! ;) I'm thinking of only getting off in Curaçao and Grand Cayman since I've never been to those places. But who knows, it's vacation. I'll play it by ear. Unfortunately, they're gonna kick me off in Galveston! :p

Also, I think our cruise is finally sold out. But with the number of solo travelers and it being the off season, I doubt the ship will be very crowded. Especially with kids!

  3. Just wanted to say Hi. We'll be moving back to NYC in a few months and we love cruising. We also love to go on cruises.

What's the very best ship and itinerary?

    Also....

    Anyone doing an all-gay cruise?

You'll have a few options for cruising out of the northeast!

The Norwegian Breakaway is a great ship. I would suggest one of the longer itineraries that they do in the winter! She does Bermuda in the summer, then mostly 7 day cruises to Nassau, Florida, and their private Bahamian island in the off season. With those longer cruises sprinkled out in between ;)

Norwegian Gem sails mostly out of NYC but will be sailing out of San Juan from October-December of 2016. In the summer she sails the 7 day Bahama&Florida itinerary. In the winter she sails mostly 10 days to the eastern Caribbean.

Anthem of the Seas sails out of Bayonne. She arrives in November of this year and offers a series of cruises from 7-12 days. The 7/8 day cruises go to the Bahamas and Florida, with a stop at their private island Coco Cay. She also offers great 10/12 day cruises to the Eastern, Western, & Southern Caribbean during the winter. In the summer she'll take over the Bermuda/Caribbean route alternating 5 days to Bermuda and 9 days to Bermuda and the Eastern Caribbean.

Carnival Sunshine will be sailing out of NYC in the summer of 2016. She'll offer a few voyages to Canada but mostly sail 8 days to Florida & the Bahamas or 8 days to Nassau, Turks&Caicos, and Half Moon Cay(one of my favorite places ever).

Celebrity Summit will continue to sail 7 day cruises to Bermuda in the summer. She will be "refreshed" as she's going into drydock sometime early next year. She'll feature a few new entertainment venues and restaurants.

Baltimore isn't that far from NY and offers the Carnival Pride and Grandeur of the Seas year round!

  4. Thought I'd tell a little more about myself.. I'm Kevin, I'm 26, from Wilmington, Delaware. I'm traveling alone this time, and I really love cruises. This will be the longest cruise I've ever done.. Which I'm very much looking forward to! This is my 3rd time on Royal Caribbean. I've only sailed on the Voyager-class ship (Mariner and Explorer), so I'm interested in seeing the differences between the Freedom & Voyager classes. I've never been to Curaçao or Grand Cayman. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do there? Anyone going nude at Orient Beach in St. Maarten?? I was thinkin about it since I won't be with any friends or family this time around lol

  5. I usually go for the cruise line that has the best deal and itinerary. My next cruise is November 1st on the Liberty for the 12 day repositioning cruise. It is off season AND a repositioning cruise. Though, I got an amazing price.. $499 without taxes. I couldn't do a Bahama and Florida(blah) 7 day out of Baltimore or NYC for that price on Carnival, NCL, or another RC ship.

  6. Unless requirements have drastically changed in the last year QV is over 200 feet too long for Hamilton. I see 2 reasonable alternatives. The first is Kings Wharf, which is not really Hamilton, but the port serves Hamilton. The other is that she will anchor in the harbor with tender service provided by the Bermudian.

I note that Cruisetimetables.com lists both QV and Crystal Serenity on one of the dates. I can guarantee quite certainly that both ships will not be able to dock in central Hamilton.

That's what I thought too. It'd be great if it could fit! Hamilton is much better than King's Wharf. But the itineraries on a few websites including Cunard's site does say "Hamilton"

  7. I was just looking up cruises and saw that the Queen Victoria will be in Hamilton quite a few times in 2017. I didn't think a ship of that size could fit into Hamilton? That's why most ships dock at King's Wharf. Will she fit??

  8. Was on the Carnival Splendor in June. During the muster drill they kept repeating over the intercom that they wouldn't start until EVERYONE was quiet. Kinda felt like I was in school again ;)

On the Explorer last year and the Norwegian Breakaway this year it was very simple. Meet in your designated area, listen for a few minutes, then you're good to go.

I remember back in 2003 on the Celebrity Galaxy we were told to wear our life jackets; but we didn't have to go outside to the lifeboats because it was raining. For the "convenience for the passengers." The good ole days! ;)

It has crossed my mind though, that there has to be people who didn't learn a thing from the muster drill.
