  1. That policy was in effect when I was on line with the ppl who brought the 2 cases of wine !! Out of LAX -- they can make all the rules they want - but the hired help (temporary) on the pier has to (1) know it (2) enforce it !!!

I didn't generate the newsletter - so if I am misinformed - take it up with cruise critic. I mentioned it to be informational as I suspect the original poster didnt get it ...

It is the passenger who is responsible to know the rules. Not mine - not yours - not cruise critics.

I am elite with Princess with 70+ cruise behind me.. various lines.

I do acknowledge that rules change - which is why I believe ppl use cruise critic - to see what other ppl find out... If your info is newer than mine - great -

How do we know that? Maybe YOUR info is bad info !!! lol -- I don't care one way or the other !!

That corkage fee has been in effect out of NYC for at least a year that I am aware of and it is not Princess -- and it is not always enforced anyway !!

all in all - if you bring and extra $5.00 bottle of wine - with the $15 fee - you are still better off than the cruise price...

If there is a will there is a way... According to the cruise critic section regarding alcohol - it isn't all that hard with the products on the market for such purposes. What shows up on the xray and what doesn't -- others seem more knowledgeable than either of us...

My sincere apologizes for any misinformation I might have passed on - I only meant to be helpful and observational ... I stand ignored !!!:D

As long as people keep posting what they know about getting alcohol on board, Princess will keep reading the posts and taking countermeasures to stop it.

  2. Just to be sure I am understanding correctly. We booked a 14 day Southern/Eastern cruise on the Crown. It will return to FLL .My husband is Elite with Princess,I am fairly new and also new to CC. Does this mean we would be able to get 2 free bar set ups ,and 2 -150 min. internet packages. Also, will we have to disembark in FLL. and reboard? Thanks for the info,I am so much enjoying learning form these boards.DH has never been a detail person so is not the best source of info. But lots of fun:)

On your first return to FLL you will meet with others who are doing a B2B in a lounge. You will be given new key cards. You will then leave the ship and have your first key card de-activated. You will go into the terminal to a customs agent. You will then line up and re-board the ship and get your new key card activated. At least that is how it was last February when I did a B2B aboard the Emerald Princess.

  3. Have not sailed with Princess before and although I though I had plenty of time to book a cruise in August 2013 have now find my choices are very limited. We were hoping for a mini suite but now find the only suites available are on Dolphin deck and they are exposed. Really do not like the idea of exposed balcony. Thanks to CC for alerting me to that fact. Now looking at a balcony cabin and would like some advice as to which one to look at. Some say they have a "premium balcony" eg on Aloha A401. How is this different to say a normal balcony cabin. Is is just the position on the ship? Thanks:)

My wife and I have sailed in both balcony cabins and mini-suites. We feel that the exposed balcony of a mini-suite is a small price to pay for the other benefits of a mini-suite over a balcony cabin. The tub/shower combo is much better than the tiny shower stall in a balcony cabin. The couch and extra tv are also much appreciated. Also, the soaps and lotions are better in the mini-suite and you get a free glass of sparkling wine from your steward on embarkation day.

You will find that you soon forget about being exposed to view from above on your mini-suite balcony. Remember that all balcony railings are transparent so someone on a Dolphin deck mini-suite can look up and see into the front part of the balconies above.

  4. LuLu, I checked again today and the website now shows cabins available. I agree that the 1/19/14 cruise is not long enough----that is why we also booked the 1/26/14 sailing.

Glad we hadn't planned to book Royal Princess in January 2014 with all of this going on. If we had, 1/19/14 would have been what we would have wanted. Thing is that it's not long enough and doesn't make into a good B2B.

  5. I began the on-line booking process on the Princess web site for a 01/19/2014 Caribbean cruise. One of the first pages showed prices for all types of cabins. As I went farther to the point of selecting a cabin, the web page showed all cabins marked as sold.

When I have done the same process on cruises on other ships, if the cruise was sold out the first page said it was sold out and gave no prices.

I know that cabin categories change after May of 2013 and the booking pages on the web site may look different, but I find it hard to believe that a cruise still 13 months in the future would have every cabin sold out.

I already booked a cabin on this cruise through my travel agent last August but I was just checking the web site to see if the cabin next to me was taken yet. Can anyone enlighten me on this?

  6. Certain officers wear white uniforms for their working uniform, (different from formal dress uniform). Engineering department officers wear khaki uniforms for their working uniforms.

The more strips/bars on the uniform shoulder board, the higher the rank. A captain rank has 4. There can be several officers aboard a ship that hold the rank of captain, but only one will be in command of the ship. I have heard that the officer who is second in command is called the Staff Captain. I presume the Hotel Manager and possibly the Food Service Manager may also hold the pay grade of captain.
