  1. Hi, yeah, if you go for the drinks package, anything with a "*" means that you will pay that additional charge. The a la carte's are extra, and I cant quite remember how much. In the main restaurant you can pay an extra £10 for a steak if you fancy, and they were really good, but TBH we enjoyed the food anyway, so thats really just up to you.

Personally I dont like a porthole, so opt for an inside cabin. We have been on deck 1 twice and 3 once. If you are like us, and are hardly in your cabin, I personally wouldnt waste the money and if anything, if you are going to pay extra, maybe move up to 3 or 4, but like I say, we slept, washed and changed!

The casino is ok - I dont have much of a clue, tried my luck one night at cards, everyone seemed to be taking it quite seriously though, and they asked the guy next to me to leave the table because he was "reading" the cards?? Only stayed for a wee bit.

We have not been to caribbean yet (going in January!!) but any place we have been have always booked our own trips and they have been great, so will be looking into doing this again.

If you are AI, I cant really see why you would need to bring a bottle on board, but there has been talk on here before about it being taken off you, and then returned as you come home. We usually head for a couple of cocktails before going to get ready, take a drink with us if necessary, but like I say, you are in, showered, changed and out.

We have always enjoyed our time on Celebration, twice with our teenage daughters who had a ball, and once with friends. Next time on our own!! I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy it - you can be as formal or relaxed as you like. We have met lovely, friendly people before and cant wait to go back.

    Hope you enjoy!!!

  2. Just returned from 18 night transatlantic cruise on the dream and we had 2 formal nights[emoji73]

Thanks Trish - how did you find the 18 nights - especially the days at sea? Do there tend to be more activities planned for those days - and at what capacity is the ship at? Cant bear to think about fighting for a sunbed for those six days at sea!!!! Sorry for all the questions! :o

  3. just back last week from the celebration, about 45 mins from the airport to the port..........

weather was mixed, a bit windy last week, spent two nights docked in Gran Canaria..... some of the sailings were a bit rough

its your luck with the weather, even thought it was a bit rough, still got a great tan, had a ball, brilliant cruise, just make the best of whatever happens

Oh dear, that is not sounding so good!!! Oh well, I have stocked up with the old sea sick tablets - completely agree - it is just your luck, last summer we couldnt dock at Lesbos and another port was changed because of the weather - you would hardly expect that in the summer, but these things happen, no fault of the staff or ship, but oh, some people still moaned!! Would rather be kept safe to be honest!!!

Dont worry, we will have a great time whatever!!!! THANKS!!!:)

  4. On the Friday morning just as we about to be kicked off for the day there was an announcement over the PA system that the water system was being chemically purged and that no one should use it.

Most passengers were off by then with only the 250 who were departing the next day or those on for 2 weeks still onboard and about to go off.

They said that this was routine maintenance but given the degree of illness and the fact that they had started serving bottled water in the dining rooms for the last 3 days of the cruise I do wonder if this was an issue. We are not tea drinkers so did not use the kettle in the room but as lots of people do so if there was an issue (and I am not saying that there was) then this could explain how many people were ill.

This is in fact routine, they flush out the system on the ship (I suppose a bit like cleaning beer pipes!), happened on our last day of the two cruises we have done.

  5. Kruzseeka - you are most definitely the voice of reason!!! Not the first time you have calmed me on here about something I have managed to get myself into a tizzy about!!! I worry and having nothing to worry about!!! LOL

Much appreciated, as is all the other advice that you kindly offer on these pages.

What you say makes perfect sense, and I am sure we will have great time. I know that some folk moan for the sake of moaning, and some of the reviews seems a tad rediculous have been there and done it, it was more about the seasoned Thomson traveller reviews. Now, that is a concern.

Anyway - thanks again!! And breath aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!:)

  6. I dont think you have to worry about the turndown service...its a cruise staple...I dont think they will stop that

the midnight buffet was stopped because they were having to throw so much of it away...not surprising really...it looked lovely for a photo but no one was eating it….probably because it was made up of squares of their dreaded greasy mousse deserts (that no one likes) and tiny sandwiches with odd fillings (anchovy & melon for instance?)

I’m sure that the stewards will be as hard working as ever, and the crew as cheerful as ever…and celebration is my own favourite ship, it fared a little better (than dream) on the refurb imo…so still lots to like

Thanks Geomagot, you know that sinking (no pun intended) when you have recommended something to someone and then you start hearing bad things about it!!!! I have to say, our previous two trips on Celebration were fantastic, and we had absolutely nothing to complain about (well, lack of sunbeds!)

To be fair, those stewards work their butts off and to think that they may have cut their numbers and putting extra pressure on them is awful. It is thanks to many of these people that our holidays are so good, and if anything they should be making things a little easier for them.

  7. Oh dear, how worried am I? This will be our third cruise on Celebration - after two extremely enjoyable trips I may add. What on earth has happened. What makes it worse, we are travelling with friends on our recommendation who have never cruised before! To say I am panicking would be not be an understatment.

We did notice last summer that there was not as many staff as the previous year, and hence service was slightly slower, but if that has been cut again, I am not sure how enjoyable that will make the holiday.

Have been busy telling them about little touches like the turn down service and the chocolates, yet some have mentioned they did not have that. I am really not bothered about a towel animal, but the turn down is a nice touch. And the Buffet Magnifique - is that not happening any more? Certainly last year's Buffet was very much toned down from the year before, but it still happened (it is still advertised in brochure).

What about charging for seats in theatre, there was none of that in the summer?????:confused::(:(

Oh, the next 4 weeks could be stressful.

  8. Hi just wondered if anyone would be able to tell me how busy the Celebration might be cruise commencing 28 February. Have only ever done high season when it was bursting at seams! It would be lovely not to have to fight for a sunbed (weather permitting) and just a little bit quieter would be nice. Thanks!:o

  9. Colourful Coasts on the Celebration can be a Friday or Saturday start. I have opted for the Saturday start however I can't work out whether there will be a sail away party on the Friday night so no party on the Saturday. If it is on the Friday there will be a sail away party on the last night of my cruise. Or will there be a sail away party on both the Friday and Saturday so there will be a party on the night I join and on my last night. Or do they have it on a Saturday so those starting on the Friday have to wait till the day after they join the cruise.

Can someone tell me the answer to this puzzel:)

Hmm, we are on this one in six weeks, joining on Friday - I will be gutted if there is no sailaway party on that night - I just love the atmosphere and it gets your holiday off to a great start! Mind you, if there was one both nights - bonus!!!!!:D

  10. Cabin Number:872 (Inside)

    Cruise Ship:Celebration

    Date of Cruise:1/7/12

    Bed Formation: 4 Bed (2 x bunk)

    Bath/Shower?: Shower

    Adjoining Cabin?: No

    Balcony?: No

Comment on the Size of the Cabin: Perfectly acceptable so long as kids didnt leave clothes lying about!

Comment on any Noise Issues: General I suppose - people coming back to cabin at night, although we could hear at times what sounded like trolleys or something being hauled along below us.

Comment on Storage Space: Whilst plenty of storage, could be doing with some hangers/hooks for towels etc being 4 in a cabin

Comment on the Bathroom: It was okay - shower needed a bit of attention - not dirty, just needing regrouted and a general tidy up. Shower curtain was such a nuisance sticking to you! Also, we generally had to use towels to mop up water that appeared to be leaking from shower.

Any Other Comments?: With their being four of us in this cabin, it did get extremely warm. We did complain about the lack of power from the air conditioning a couple of times, which was apparently rectified, but we noticed no difference. Other than that, when there are four people in a reasonably confined space, you have to expect that you might not have as much space as say in a hotel room.

    Would You Recommend this Cabin?:

    Link to any Images:

    Score out of 10: 7

Hope this is helpful. We are travelling again this year and have paid to have a cabin on 3/4, again inside.
