  1. Found this at the very last page and the very last posting, some 300+ pages back. Thought it might be of interest to anyone soon sailing who also might own 100 shares of NCL stock.................as I do.

I was not aware of this but will follow up. I sail in two weeks on the GEM. Any additional benefit will be most welcomed.

  2. Actually, I think a better idea is to go to one of the specialty restaurants on boarding day. I always schedule a time at La Cucina, and then never worry about crowds at any of the restaurants. First night is always crowded in the main rooms as everyone is settling in around the same time. Takes a night for the crowds to adjust to their different dining option times.

As an aside, I can't imagine taking a two year old on a cruise and enjoying it.

  3. Here's a suggestion that is a little out of the way for you coming from the North, but worthy of a try.

Stay at the Jersey City Hyatt Regency, right on the Hudson River directly across the from the WTC site. Fantastic views of the "City" skyline. Cheaper than N.Y. with a one stop "under the river" train to N.Y.C. for a night out on the town prior to the cruise. Train access back runs all night long.

Then drive the next morning to the pier using the nearby tunnel and park at the pier. Why park anywhere else, unless money is a serious obstacle?

My guess is that the Hyatt is giving some Jan. deals at the moment.

  4. Have done both cruises a few times, and recommend both. We are leaving this year on Feb 1. Last time was in 2014 on the Gem. Weather down was a little bumpy, but don't recall any major sickness issues with passengers. Perhaps they were resting in their cabins. Nice little addition was watching the super bowl on board. Unfortunately, it was a lousy game with Denver getting blown out. Looking forward to a better game on board this year. I like the idea of a pretty inexpensive 10 day trip South in the middle of Winter; bumpy seas or no bumpy seas.

  5. We've sailed with them 10 times in the last 5 years, and I have to tell you that I don't have an answer...............even though I am not a drinker. I'm guessing that a quick phone call to NCL will provide the best answer. I can tell you that it hasn't seemed to be a problem for me. I'm usually well hydrated while on the cruise.

  6. We've got ten cruises under our belts, 8 of the last have been with NCL, so I guess I'm somewhat of a fan. Having said that, my guess is one of the best ways to evaluate NCL is to look at their financials and see how they are trending.....regardless of CC reviews.

Third quarter closed out with $1.35 EPS which exceeded consensus. Quarter 4 consensus is projected to be $2.88. Most folks following the stock have it listed as bullish or, at worst, neutral. Stock has been trading around its' higher levels, though it has been taking a bit if a beating lately........today included.

My guess is that management is generally pleased with the reception given the company since the merger based on the financials, and generally pleased with the direction of the earnings.

That said, I am holding off booking my next cruise in Feb. out of N.Y. on the Gem looking for a better price and deal. I like the mega ships I have been on, but I am really looking forward to viewing the newly remodeled Gem.

I do intend to deprive them of every one of my dollars that I can while thoroughly enjoying myself for the ten days we will be aboard.

  7. With two trips on each, and a third for the Gem, not fast enough, approaching, allow me to add my 2 cents. I really love having breakfast outdoors on the back of the Gem.

To be candid, I also like the extended Winter trip the Gem offers and the lighter upfront baggage; spelled c o s t.

By the way, the Gem offers larger handicapped rooms, which I don't have a need for but have been able to take advantage of in the past since they weren't needed for the truly handicapped.
