  1. Visiting Costa Maya aboard Adventure of the Seas late Jan 2023. We would like to take an excursion to Bacalar. Does anyone have first hand experience with a fantastic tour operator? I have Googled a few, have some resources, just curious if anyone has a favorite. I prefer to use local tours over the cruise line offerings. RC doesn't even offer one for this location, regardless. Thank you for your time.

  2. We visited Breezes on 12-4-21, purchasing the day pass while our cruise was in port. We arrived at 10:45am and left at 1:00pm due to the AWFUL condition of the property and the AWFUL looking food. We had 1 beer and did not eat because the food looked absolutely inedible. I emailed them asking for a refund, with no reply. I honestly didn't expect one, but it was worth a shot. The resort did not look ANYTHING like what they were advertising.

    Restrooms were dirty and unsanitary.

The concrete around the pool is in terrible shape. Could not walk on it without shoes on.

The pools look like they have not had any maintenance done on them in years.

The pool bar only has well liquor. No top shelf options at all.

The beach chairs are in very bad shape.

The towels were paper thin, and appeared to be very old.

The buffet was just terrible. We did not even try it, it really was that bad.

The outside grill was making very cheap cheeseburgers and fries. They also looked terrible.

Based on the latest example of the Grand Princess, quarantined off the coast of California, you wouldn't be quarantined for long in your stateroom. They learned that lesson with the Diamond Princess that the ship becomes a petri dish, even with everyone quarantined to their cabins. After they can set up the logistics (which takes days), they will move you to military quarters to do your 2-week quarantine. Since you are already off the ship at that point, your T&C for the ship do not apply. Who pays for your two week quarantine in a military base?

No where in that article does it talk about money........

  4. Booked to go on the Sun on March 23rd. I am not canceling unless something drastic happens between now and then......

Here is my question though. If we cruise, and someone on the ship falls ill, and the entire ship is quarantined off coast for 30 days, who pays for the room while we are there? I called NCL and asked the question, they did not have an answer. "You shouldn't have to pay" they said, but they didn't have a policy or anything. I am going to need more than a random customer service agent agreeing I shouldn't be responsible for the cost. I read in another thread that RCCL has a policy that states the passengers are responsible for any time spent on the ship after there disembarking date.

  5. Bumping up an old thread, here is the formula they use. I just got off the phone with them. Booked the cruise 90 days from sailing, now 26 days before sailing, price dropped significantly.

They take the price difference between the 2 first passengers. Add that together. Then offer 25% of that total in OBC.

    Example.

    Passenger 1 original fair = $1000

    Passenger 2 original fair = $1000

    Passenger 1 cheaper fair = $800

    Passenger 2 cheaper fair = $800

(passengers 3,4,5 etc, do not count)

Difference is $200 per person, so $400 total. 25% of 400 is $100 of OBC.

Edit: They also look for a room upgrade, which only consists of the same room type you booked. I booked a sail away balcony, so they looked for a sail away mini suite, which of course were all already booked. So no dice, I get the OBC.

  6. We cruising on the Sun to the Bahamas for Spring Break. Looking at booking a shore excursion in Nassau "Blue Lagoon Island Beach Day"  through NCL. Has anyone done this excursion? Does NCL limit your time on the island? The excursion details state 5hrs, but what if we wanted to stay longer? We are in port from 8am-5pm, excursion says it starts at 8:30am. What if we wanted to stay until 3pm or 4pm then head back to the ship? I can purchase the excursion from other companies, but like the idea of using NCL, unless they are going to limit our time.

Sunshine probably has the most activity-wise but I think most people around here think it's way too crowded. I enjoyed the NCL Sun and find that it's the perfect size and never feels crowded.

THANK YOU. We have only ever been on Carnival cruises, so am curious to try out a different cruise line. I like the intinerary better on the Sun. Is there enough to do for 2 adults and a 16yr old on the smaller ship? What about room sizes? How do they compare? Both Oceanviews.......

  8. Carnival Sunshine

    NCL Sun

    Carnival Liberty

We think we may try and score a cheap cruise for Spring Break this year. If we can find something cheap, we will book it, if not, we may just drive to Destin for the week. Very flexible. Going to monitor the prices for a few weeks and pick something.

The reviews for all 3 ships are ALL OVER the place. Most of the terrible reviews are from either people that had a certain event or from people who just seem grumpy all the time. I was really hoping to find a 50/50 mix of reviews, but it seems most are negative for all 3 ships..... I am making a pro/con spreadsheet for all 3 cruises. Anyone help me out here with some experinces?

The room doesn't matter, just looking to get away. We won't spend any time in the room anyway. I priced everything for an Oceanview. All 3 are to the Bahamas. Ports are also really not that important, we just plan on hitting the beach every stop anyway.

If you are ok with not going on the cruise, then there isnt much of a loss I guess. Good luck.

That is pretty much where we are. IF we score one, great, if not, we won't be upset. We are going to to spend a few days on the beach, so really, ship, cabin, etc, doesn't even matter. We just want to have a little road trip/family time/beach get away.....

Thank you everyone for the advice!!

We are also looking at ALL cruise lines, the dates are the important part. We are not "cruise line loyal." Whatever works best.

  10. Thank you for the detailed reply!

After researching and reading a ton of reviews, I actually decided to rent a UTV from Roadrunner ATV Rentals. I chatted back and forth with them about maps/difficulty, etc, making the trip. They where very confident I would have no problem in an ATV making the trip. I rented the UTV for a full 8hrs so we can take our time. Going to start the trip at 9am, so hopefully we can make it there well before the big crowds.....

We have sailed on the Jubilee and Elation in a Junior suite.  You will feel quite a bit of motion but you’ll get used to it.  The cabin is not very big compared to the newer ships.  The balcony is small.  You can fit three people on it but it will be tight.  Best thing about the JR suites is how close you are to the pool and Lido dining.

Thank you for the reply. I booked the Jr. Suite. This concerns me a little, the wife does get motion sickness. Wondering if I should have cooked the aft balcony now.
