  1. looks like it is Per cabin for the whole 10 day cruise. So $39 p/p extra for 10 day cruise? Nice bargain

Yes, that's correct. $39 pp total for the entire 10-day cruise. I was so nervous until we got the callback -- I was so worried I called too late! I knew it was a great deal. :-)

  2. Great News for you and your parents. My parents got us hooked on cruising. Sadly, they had to hang up their sailing shoes several years ago due to their health. We do miss them on our cruises now, but wouldn’t trade the memories for anything. Enjoy your time together...I know you will.

Looking forward to hearing about your cruise on the newly refurbished Sapphire. DW and I will be on her in October on nearly the same cruise in reverse. Toulon replaces Monte Carlo on that one.

Enjoy, treasure, and Safe Journeys. Paul

I plan to do a detailed review with photos. I know everyone is looking for updates on the newly refurbished ship!

  3. We're sailing on the Sapphire Princess in less than three weeks on a 10-day cruise from Rome to Southampton. We had booked two inside cabins -- one for us and one for my parents (the trip is our Christmas gift to them). My husband and I normally do a balcony stateroom, but since I'm paying for four people instead of two this trip, inside cabins were the only feasible option.

Well, today we got an email offer to move to oceanview cabins for $78 per cabin. We ended up in two partially obstructed OV rooms, but I did some online research and was able to get us both placed in cabins with pretty darn good views for obstructed.

We're so excited! We were going to have a fine time in our inside cabins, but it sure is going to be nice to be able to see the world go by!

  4. Kirkwall is our favorite port -- ever. My husband and I arranged private transportation (car and boat) to the island of Hoy. We then hiked five miles to and from the Old Man of Hoy --a stunning sea stack off the tiny island's coast. We literally did not see any other humans for hours. One of our greatest adventures, and truly magical!

  5. Our Norway cruise was one of our top trips ever. We loved Bergen -- rode the tram up to the top of the mountain and then hiked down on our own. Stunning. Alesund was lovely, and Geiranger is one of the prettiest places I've ever been.

If you like a good disaster movie, I highly recommend The Wave. It's set in and around Geiranger. You'll have to watch with subtitles, but it's a highly entertaining film and shows off the spectacular scenery of the area.

  6. You normally won't get any follow-up contact on the OBC. Once you've submitted the paperwork it will be linked to the person's Captains' Circle number and will be automatically added to every future cruise. To see if the OBC has been credited to your cruise, look in your cruise personalizer, the Veterans' OBC should be there and marked with an asterisk which means that it's refundable. Oh, one thing, if you ever go through a travel agent to schedule a Princess cruise, make sure that the agent puts the Captains' Circle number of the veteran into the cruise reservation as that is how Princess knows about the OBC. If the agent doesn't add the CC number to the reservation, the veteran won't get the OBC!

    Tom

Thank you, Tom! I checked, and it's listed on the reservation. Thanks again for helping me!

  7. We came very close once. Took a private excursion in Barbados with a group from our Roll Call. Had a great day, but on the way back, there was a serious traffic accident that had traffic at a standstill. Our taxi couldn't move. So our group decided we had to try to get back on foot. I had on flip flops (had been on a catamaran), and we had to run back to the ship -- distance was about two miles as I recall. I was very overweight then and just in agony --the others in the group eventually left me and my husband behind because I was so slow. So it was just the two of us, we didn't know where we were, we had very little money with us -- we were in panic mode. Finally, we got past the traffic congestion and managed to flag down a cab to take us the rest of the way. We saw others from our group running along the road as we drove along, and we'd stop and pick them up as we passed them in ones and twos. We were literally the last group back aboard --it was an awful experience! We got back with less than five minutes to spare and would have had ZERO chance of making it if we hadn't snagged that cab.

  8. Hiking to the Old Man of Hoy in the Orkney Islands of Scotland — not another human being to be found for miles. Just me and my husband in one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever been.

Glendalough in the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland. A very spiritual place.

The fjords of Norway — no photo can ever do them justice.

And I agree about the total eclipse. I live on the coast of South Carolina, and we were in the path of totality for the eclipse last year. We watched from the beach. It was breathtaking.

  9. Thanks, everyone, for all the replies and insight. We're very excited to take this trip with my mom and dad. Where we're sleeping won't in any way impact the memories we're going to make. And to the poster who commented on our itinerary, I love it too! I looked at many, many cruises before settling on this one. My mom, who has never been to Europe, will visit six countries in two weeks. How cool is that!

  10. Hi all.

We are booked on a 10-night European cruise on Sapphire Princess next month. We have two inside staterooms reserved -- one for us and one for my parents. We gave them this cruise (their first trip to Europe) as a Christmas present.

Because I was booking cruise fare and airfare for four adults instead of my normal two, I had to stretch my dollars by booking inside cabins. We got an amazing price -- $999 pp for 10 nights. We also got a terrific deal on airfare. (In comparison, current rate for an inside cabin is showing at $2,098 pp.)

If we sail in the cabins I booked, we'll have a great time and no regrets. But, of course, I'd love to get an upsell offer. I know there's no way to predict if it will happen. But will we be excluded from consideration because we booked at such a low price? For reference, this will be our fifth cruise with Princess and my parents' first.

Thanks for any info. So excited about this trip and making my mom's dream of seeing Paris come true. Can't believe it's happening next month!

  11. I'd be happy to pay this when we sail Princess. We're primarily Celebrity customers but will sail on Princess when an itinerary is appealing to us -- as is the case with our European cruise next month. I'd much rather pay a small charge and alleviate some of the boarding hassle/wait.
