  1. Don't pay any attention to those that say you are showing off. They are just envious that you can make the choice. We have cruised everything from the Suite Life to the inside "Cheap" cabins and will probably never go back to the Star Class. I had an expectation that my extended family would be treated well enough to justify the cost. It just didn't happen and I had set myself up for disappointment. I am with most everyone else. Use the $4000 to book another cruise.

  2. JT - I am also a Hilton Honors user. We will be in San Juan next week. We have done all of those that you list. If you goal is to hang around the hotel and you don't care so much about the beach the Embassy Suites is probably best. They have a very nice pool area, but no view. I have stayed there 3 or 4 times and have found the breakfast and evening social to be TOO busy. One advantage is that if you like casinos they have a small but fun one. We have walked the 4 blocks to the beach and found chairs and service to be nice. If you using points this is a good option. If you are paying cash they charge a resort fee but do not have many of the resort amenities. If you go for the Condado Beach you will be on the water with a nice beach. It is the best location of those you listed. It is just across the inlet for the lagoon from the Caribe. I hope that the Caribe Hilton is open by the time we get there. Good luck

  3. Haven't been to this site but be careful we watch a French family try to dispute a bill and then found that they upped the prices on us too. We order guac and thought it was pricey at $10. Turned out to be $25 because without telling us chips were not included. They brought them and we ate them. Didn't find out they were $15 additional. Not sure how you would eat guac without them. The beer were $5 on the menu still we assumed that soda would be that or less. The price was not on the menu and they ended up charging me $10 each. We liked Costa Maya but hesitate to book cruises that stop there now.

  4. Check out Chankanaub park. Great snorkeling they have dolphins, manatee, sealion show parrot show. Massages on the beach. Tequila tasting. Fresh water pool with a swim up bar. They do have an all you can drink with buffet lunch. I believe it was $20. Entrance is $19. The best part is that it is a state park and no big corporation is profitting. Check out their web site for details and coupons.

  5. We were in Falmouth last week and did not have positive experiences in Jamaica in the past. We hired Steve's Taxi and he gave us a wonderful tour of the local area and Montego Bay. We then went to a beach near the port. Steve waited for us since we had a 2 year old and we were not sure how long he would last. I highly recommend connecting with him prior to arrival. Not sure if I can post the email, but he can be contacted at noelsmith66@yahoo.com

  6. We are on the TA arriving in La Havre on May 11th. We have investigated options, but have decided to go to Paris and return to the ship before departure to London. We are thinking about the Train to Paris and a taxi/driver back to the Port. Has anyone else done that?

Please do not reply with what a bad idea it is to do it in one day. I have read the posts on that and I am looking for those that have done it by train, driver, tour, etc.

  7. I have posted some comments about our Genie experience, and had planned to write a review. I went silent because I was working with the RCCL Customer Service Rep on some of the issues. He went way above and beyond.

My goal of the contact was to get the incorrect charges reversed. I have been watching to see if any others had similar experiences to us. But it doesn't appear that our experience was the norm.

I want to say that I believe that based on the reviews and discussions posted since our cruise that you should all have a great time and enjoy the "Genie" experience. While I had hopes for an over the top, in the end some of the basics were not met. I could give you multiple examples where she did not meet the advertised standard. I had planned the entire week of show and dinner reservations and sent it to the Genie when she emailed me. I commented on the boards that she never actually responded that she had made the reservations and that was because she didn't. Some were able to be made by her last minute, but on several occasions she called the night before and said she could not get us for the places and times we had planned and while she had alternatives they typically conflicted with a show that I had made reservations for. In the end our biggest issue was we had charges on our bill for multiple items that were to be included. These included complimentary valet and Chef's Table. Both were on the bill 2 nights before we departed. I called the Genie on Thursday night and she said "Not to worry, that it was her job to take care of those things." She said she would meet with us on the last afternoon to review the charges. I didn't wait around the room for her to come and review, but I did ensure that there were several opportunities for her to connect with us. She did not stop or bring the topic up again so I decided I needed to just let her do her job. Not only were the charges still there on our last night, but they were on the print out on the door. My last chance to ask her about it was when we were escorted off. As we had come to find out, that didn't go as planned either. She told us to meet her in the Coastal Kitchen at 9:30 and she would come and take us off. We were there at 9am because we needed to vacate the room. At 9:45 I asked the one of the staff that was cleaning the tables if this was the meeting place for the Genie and he said that we were suppose to be in the Champagne Lounge. I thought I had messed up, so I gathered the group, 1 in a wheelchair, 1 with a walker, my blind husband, and my sister and nephew who were carrying their luggage. We headed to the elevator and as we were getting on another Genie was getting off. I asked her to confirm that we were suppose to be in the Champagne Bar, and she said no we were to be in the Coastal Kitchen. She said she would call our Genie and after dialing she handed me the phone. The Genie told us to go back to the CK and she would come and get us. She did finally come and escort us off the ship, but did not request anyone to push mother's wheelchair so I had to push it. I asked her for a wheelchair for the 93 year old and she clearly ignored me. Three times as we moved thru the crowd I had to ask her to slow down because we she was leaving the 93yr old behind. As soon as we got to a point where she could leave us, she did. I decided not to ask about the bill, and was not too surprised when it was on our credit card 2 days later. As I said when I started this post, RCCL has reversed the charges and I believe they did take note of the issues. They have given us each a credit off a future cruise and while some of us will take advantage of the credits, this was the last trip that my mother and her husband will make, and sadly it isn't one that they will look back fondly on. If you have a GOOD or bad experience, I would recommend that you reach out to RCCL Customer Service because they are committed to make this program work and we should share the names of the Great Genies!

  8. I had several communications with Matt on CC before our departure and he is correct that they are NOT butlers, ours made that very clear from the moment we met her. My hopes were for the experience that Matt had. We did not receive any email from our Genie until 5 days before our trip. Never did get the questionnaire. I replied with the schedule that our group of 6 had decided on. She replied with an email that told me what she couldn't do from the list. That was fair, but she never did reply that she had actually made the reservations for us. She did make about half of our show reservations for us, but we don't believe she did that until we were on board, so many of what we wanted were full and she would repeatedly tell us the night before that she was not able to fit us in. We are very experienced cruisers and believe that we could have had better service from the Concierge.

As for the bill, I knew exactly what was included in the Star Class. The bill included charges for the Chef's table, multiple drinks (We never ordered anything that exceeded the Ultimate drink package), the Luggage valet (Should not have been a charge - We flew first class and I put that on the form), and popcorn that she had went and gotten for us. I had checked my bill the last sea day and was surprised to see over $500 in charges. I contacted her and she said not to worry that she would sit down with us and review. The last day we spent a lot of time on the balcony, and went to see Cats. When we arrived she said she didn't have us down for that day so we had to find seats for ourselves with 2 wheelchairs. She had ample opportunity to find us after the show, but never did come to see us to review the bill. I did call her before dinner to again ask about the bill. She again told me very politely that it was her job to take of us such things and not to worry about it. That was the point where I had had enough and gave up. She had told us to be up in the Concierge lounge at 9am and she would take us off at 9:30. We were in the lounge from 8:45-9:45 and a gentleman told us we should be in the Champagne lounge so we headed for the elevator about 9:50 assuming that I got the message wrong. Luckily we ran into another Genie who I asked about meeting place and she said we were in the correct location. She then called our Genie who said she would come and get us. I had to push mothers wheelchair myself and my 93 year old step father had to walk off the ship even though I asked her several times if she could get him a wheelchair. It was very apparent she just wanted us gone. I still had hopes that she would have corrected the charges before they hit my credit card, but buy Monday the charges had posted. A RCCL customer service is currently reviewing the bill with hopes of removing those that were incorrect. I certainly hope that everyone that sails in Star Class is able to receive the very high level of service that Matt received, but please do not slam me for sharing my experience, or assume that I didn't understand. I know what we to be expected and I deserve to post our experience. As another posted noted, there has been no recent reports from Star Class, which made me wonder if after the first month the service has deteriorated to the level that we received. I still do plan to post a review that includes the positives and the negatives after resolution with RCCL customer service. I have relied on CC for many years to help us make decisions, and I feel that my post based on our trip, was in answer to the original question.

  9. I am not surprised that you have not seen many reviews related to the Genies. We have been home for a week from our Star Class trip, and I am waiting for RCCL to attempt to correct many problems we had. I normally write very detailed reviews, but on this one I am going with "If you haven't got anything good to say - Don't say anything". At least not until customer service attempts to correct the numerous over charges.

  10. Deanna,

Thank You so much for your response. We have invested so much time and money into this trip since we are traveling with aging parents, but I was hoping with the Genie that I would get a vacation too. I appreciate your report of all the help she gave you. It helps to get me a bit more excited!

  11. We never did receive the Questionnaire. I sent a very long email reply asking many questions, not sure that I feel real good about her replies. Basically there were a few can does, but there were many more :can't do that's." She asked for our travel info, but did not reply with a time that she would like us to board. No discussion of assisting us on board, or of the communication others have discussed. I sent her the dates and times that we want reservations, but she never actually said she would reserve them for us. I mentioned my communication with the Accessibility group at RCCL about my parents needs, her reply was to clarify that she is not a butler, but is more behind the scenes. I had asked if she could arrange to have lunch on the balcony, and she replied that room service did not start until 5:30pm. She suggested that we go to the buffet in the Concierge lounge. No mention of Coastal Kitchen. We I asked if it is possible to have a few beers in the minibar, she said he would enjoy going down to the Pub on the 6th floor. I had told her that he was blind. I asked for reserved seats for the Aqua theater show and she recommended that we watch it from our room. Hard to get excited based on her email. Setting my expectations VERY LOW based on this feedback. Would love to hear any other reviews from those recently off of the Oasis and if anyone had Margaret, I would love to hear how it actually went. Thanks in Advance.

  12. We will be in the 2 bedroom Aqua Suite on July 2nd. I will post a detailed review when we get back. Our group spans from a 16 year old to a 94 year old. We had been really looking forward to the Genie experience but as of today we are 8 days from departure and have not received a single correspondence. I called RCCL today and they agreed that we should have received an email. The said that they have no way of contacting the Genie, so we just wait.

  13. I have been watching many of the updates on Star Class perks while waiting for our Allure 2 bedroom Aqua Suite cruise on July 2nd. Others have posted that they received a questionnaire a month before their departure date. We are 2 weeks out and have not received any communication. Any others have updates?

  14. Not meaning to bash, but I can't imagine having the Genie and NOT utilizing the Perks. We will be traveling with 82 year old mother and her 92 year old husband. We are so looking forward to the Genie helping us with EVERYTHING. I hope that the those that don't use their Genie are traveling on the same dates as we are. More for us. :)
