  1. From the Galveston Island Beach Patrol:

"Where can I camp on Galveston Island?

Camping on all Galveston beaches is prohibited from 12am-5am. Additionally, there is no overnight parking allowed on Seawall Blvd. The only designated place to camp on Galveston Island is at the Galveston Island State Park. For information regarding camping and reservations, visit the State Park’s website."

Please don't even consider Walmart or any other business parking lot.

Why not find an inexpensive motel on the route down from OK? Get up early and drive on down to the island clean and refreshed.

  2. We parked there on the last cruise. There was a good discount for not using the shuttle and it took us less than 10 minutes to walk. Very close to the terminal. You can get there even faster if you want to jaywalk.

    That's good news.

  3. Someone else will have to speak to where to buy the wine, but you can't purchase wine in Texas until after noon on Sunday.

Texas liquor law strikes again. There is a liquor store just a short walk from the cruise terminal but the bad news is that it cannot open on Sunday. AFAIK the closest store with a wine selection on Sunday (after noon of course) is at least 1.5 miles away. Suggest not waiting till Sunday to get your wine if at all possible.

  4. I've stayed at the Westin, Hilton CBD and Marriott Circular Quay numerous times. Wouldn't hesitate to stay at any of them again. Westin has an edge on room size and quality. Bathrooms had a partial glass wall in the rooms I had. Marriott rooms are smaller and somewhat sparse but the room views and proximity to Circular Quay is a big plus. Hilton is a good hotel but more suited to business than holiday I think.

  5. True.

However, most people that comment about the "dirty" water are only here for a day or two and we don't have the "fluffy" sand.

I live here, see it every day and the water is blue - green most of the time.

One can make comparisons with everything which will never meet one's standards.

    Agree!

  6. Fried chicken on Carnival Liberty. It was supposed to be southeren fried chicken and it wasn't. I wanted some fried chicken on the cruise so bad. When I came home from the cruise all I ate was Popeyes and KFC.

The fried chicken on the Conquest wasn't very good. Other than the drumstick, most of the pieces were totally unidentifiable. I swear that one strange piece I got was nothing but ribs & skin. A piece that appeared to be part of a thigh was undercooked.
