Fabulous, thank you very much.
We have the ships trip booked for Sorrento as I was worried about missing the ship if there was a problem on the Amalfi drive but all the others we will do ourselves, I have printed off various things that people have put on and I think (hope) we will be fine.
Just doing the worst be now....I hate packing!!!!

That would be great, yes please Dronnygirl

Thanks for the reply, I though we could but my Sister wasn't sure so I said I'd ask.
Not doing the Thompson trip going to completely DIY.
May have a look online today see if I can find a map.
Early start in the morning for a 8am flight to Palma.

Hiya
We are going on Dream on Sat, we have decided to DIY Rome. My sister and I want to see the Pope do his blessing (We have applied for tickets) my B-I-L wants to see the Colosseum, can we all do both in a day or will we need to go our separate ways?
Also is the wi-fi any better on the ship than it was a few years ago?

I always book my cruises on where the ship is going, on Thompson with only 1 sea day you're not on the ship much and most of the time you are your eyes are closed !!
We went on Fred Olsen to the Fjords and there were things we preferred and things we liked better on Thompson.
I prefer the smaller ships although saying that would not like to do a trans crossing on Thompson as not so much to do for days on end.

They had to, not every one who goes on their ships are British.
A credit card is the same the world over, believe me my husband might wish it wasn't.....
The only difference is the fees you may pay when the card converts the currency.

Supper after 1 am? Nearly time for breakfast...............

Been on Dream 3 times, not put the telly on yet......
-
I am on the Dream for 2 weeks from 29th Aug. I have written myself a note to remind me to ask the credit card question when I am on board. If you haven't found out before then I will let you know.

Thanks for the replies, I think we will book Pompeii and Amalfi with the ship.
We have seen both before but my sister and her husband haven't and it will be nice to do it again.
More researching needed for the other ports.............I need a holiday !!!!

We are doing Treasures of the Med and Med Medley in Aug on Dream
I think we are OK doing Rome on our own but I think it may be wise to do the ships trip to Pompeii & Amalfi as I would be worried about getting back to the ship.
As you all know it's quite expensive to do a lot of trips but it's such a great itinerary that there are too many places I want to see!!
I don't mind doing one more trip with the ship, which one would folks say is the most tricky to do one your own out of Villefranche (Monaco & Nice) and Livorno (Florence & Pisa).

I have sent off a fax to get the free tickets not sure what it entails but at least we have them.

Will we be able to see the Papal address? I guess it gets a little crowded, does the Pope do a blessing?
I have looked at some reviews and it seems easy enough to do on your own, my sister and I want to see the Vatican and B-I-L wants to see the Colosseum, guess we can do that in the time allowed.
Any other tips for us? I know we have to be covered (knees and shoulders) and have small bags
-
Maybe you can fit both in and have a cheeky little cruise as well.....

My husband was not feeling well in 2013 on Dream.
Went to the Doc (a man) he did an ECG (hubby was pale and breathless) and other tests including taking blood.
We went back the next day and he said my husband had not had a heart attack (due to lack of emzines in blood) he gave him some tabs for Angina and some other tabs we had about 3/4 visit. we were charged £350, and 2 visits were after hrs. He said to go to doc when we got home if it persisted and reccomended asprin, which hubby was taking.
When we came home we was unwell again so we went to A&E. He did indeed have Angina and a blocked artery which required a stent.
Spot on Doctor and very cheap.

Do it from Flam ther's not a lot to do from there, there's lots to look at in Bergen

Northern Boy.
I put my original question because I read your post which mentioned the British Night onboard, and I suppose I just asked as in a conversation, I didn't think about deviating from the original post for that I apologise.
I hope you have a fab cruise, we are also going on Sunday and I am sure we will have a lovely time.
If you do manage to get Balmoral 'up north' I am sure all the people 'down south' will complain, you can't please all of the people..............
I tried to send this as a private message as you said you won't be reading this anymore but was unable to do so.

Yes, I do agree, after my Fred Olsen cruise from Southampton ( in the very south)I will go back to the Thomson board where I clearly belong
-
But if there is a significant saving and you are getting off at the ports I guess it won't matter if it's a bit busy.
I have found I don't spend much time in the cabin anyway.

I like to have a drink of wine in the cabin in the evenings, we took some onto Dream ok but I'm guessing if we put a bottle or 2 in our case it will be taken away, is that correct?
Also never been on a cruise not fly/cruise before so that will be different, Southampton is just up the road from us, about 40 mins.
Packing will be even more difficult if I don't need to stick to a weight limit........
-
Thanks Linda, I'm sure we can manage that much. Might have to borrow a red top from my sister though, it's not a colour I wear.
It will be interesting to see how another cruise line is we have ony been with Thomson, as you know lol xx
-
If you did prefer to opt out and tip individually do you have to decide at the start of the cruise of could you do it towards the end?
I do understand what you are all saying but we have been with Tompson where tipping is included and I do prefer that.
