  1. With all the topics on here about the 70+ current rules for cruises I decided to look into it to find the breakdown of age groups.  It turns out the Gen Y/Millenials are by far the age group most likely to book a cruise for their next vacation-and this very much explains all the new bells and whistles cruise lines are incorporating into new ship builds as well as revamping older ships to include. 70% of Gen Y are likely to book a cruise, while all the older generations (Traditionalists, Boomer and Gen X) hover around the 50% mark. So while it may seem like the 70+ crowd would be most likely to cruise and that cruise lines would be taking a huge hit by not allowing them in the immediate future, it seems the cruise lines have done their research and found that is not the age group they are most worried about losing vacation dollars from.  Very cool poll here, you can check it all out.

At least your opinion is based on facts.  Many other people seem to be reacting based on fear and confusion, not facts. Which is understandable given the non-stop, 24/7 bombardment of negative news, all of which is COVID-19. Is there any other news out there?

Most projection models show that we are peaking now and the curve will bottom out by end of May/early June. Estimates of number of cases and number of deaths are constantly being revised downward. There are hopeful signs that Spain and Italy are on the downward slope. China has emerged from a 10-week lock down and I doubt the US will need that long.  My reasoning: China is a far more dense country where the concept of "personal space" does not existent, plus they where much higher up the curve before the lock down. It took 3 months before they reacted while New York took 3 weeks from the first known case. Although there is some new evidence that the virus was around in mid-February in NYC.

I can see less affected parts of the country emerging from lock down mid-May with most of the country open for business by summer.   I say there is a 50-50 chance some limited cruising begins on July. Those waiting from a vaccine will wait a long time.  Who is to say how effective a vaccine will be? Some flu vaccines are only 60% effective.

Ignore the doom-n-gloomers. Some people thrive on the chaos of a disaster and come crawling out of the woodwork declaring the end of the world.  The cruise lines will survive.  Carnival has enough cash on hand to last until March 2021, assuming the current burn rate of $500 million per month. I'll try to find the link.

Lest people think I'm downplaying the pandemic, I live an hour north of NYC and know many people affected by this....people who tested positive, including one who has passed, health care workers, etc. And I don't even have a cruise booked to look forward to!

There is a huge difference in being "pessimistic" and "realistic".  Realistically, we are nowhere near a plateau.  I live in Florida, where there are multiple cruise ports.  Here in Florida we are gaining 800-1000 new cases per day still, and dozens of deaths per day.  There will not be any cruising until this number starts to DECREASE, not increase.  We are expected to head into our projected "worst" 2 weeks in terms of cases and deaths and expected to hit our "peak" by the end of the month.  That is, if everyone continues to follow the guidelines of social distance.  And that's not to say that we can just open up again right after that.  All of this will take time.  I'm not "doom and gloom", but I've worked in healthcare and this is not just going to poof disappear from wishful thinking.

Let´s just asume everyone get´s tested before boarding- and then? One turns out positve- then what- put all those around the " postive " in Quarantine? Or does anyone really think the minimum 6 feet rule can be enforced on a check in line?

The postiv tested person stood in line quite a while... handing out the virus to those around him...! I do not see the use in that procedere!

Austria will start to reopen quite soon- their goverment reacted quick- after held responsible to be  the source for the spread through all of europe- in their skiing resorts- partying when virus was already there.

Here in Germany we all hope for the end of April for things to  start slowly  and step by step to return to ( a new) normal!

Good points.  And they are actually predicting Florida's peak to hit late April, which I personally believe is incredibly soon considering how many cases we continue to get every single day.  I think it's far too soon, and expect it to be at least late May, early June at the very soonest before Florida starts to reopen-which means all Florida ports opening after that.

I get what your saying but there is no way countries are going to keep their borders closed for 12-18 months. This virus is bad don't get me wrong and all the deaths are tragic. However eventually after the initial shock wears off, people are going to say enough is enough. We can't freeze the economy for the next 12-18 months. Big businesses just won't let it happen, if we keep things closed for that long, there will be nothing to come back to as far as the global economy is concerned. Now there might be more screening and continued mitigation efforts but things will eventually be forced to start getting back to some level of normalcy. Yes some countries might maintain tighter restrictions than others and some people will be afraid to travel but no major country is going to keep their borders closed for 12-18 months...

Yup.  News just came out that Wuhan, China (where the virus started) has finally opened after 10 weeks on lockdown.  I expect everyone in the world will be watching closely to see how they do, and we can probably expect a similar result here.  So if we locked down March 25 it will be sometime in June the country starts opening up-at the very earliest.

  5. Yup.  We had our RoyalUp offer accepted for our April 26 cruise and that cruise is canceled.  I got an email from RC when it canceled that the upgrade would not be charged to us and all purchases would be refunded just like everything else.  Have no received any FCC or refunds though and the cruise was canceled on March 13

When you proactively cancelled, did you get the email about FCC or refund for suspended cruises?  We did the same (cancelled via cruise with confidence) and then the cruises were suspended and we completed the refund request.  A few days ago we heard from Royal that the refund request (100% refund) would not be honoured and that we would only be getting the 100% FCC instead.  I'm sad that because we did cancel, we are now being limited with the refund.  Royal said once it was cancelled that this is all that would be honoured.

I got the email several days after I canceled, and requested the 125% FCC online, but I'm not sure if that will go through because when I called (before the official suspension) she said 2 weeks for the FCC (100%) as the 125% was not an offer until the official suspension announcement made after my phone call.

Ive seen a few FCC’s show up from clients who voluntarily cancelled a few days before Royal cancelled.

I proactively canceled my cruise hours before RC announced the suspended sailings, for which my cruise was included.  When I talked to RC the agent said 2 weeks for FCC, but I guess since the official announcement was made hours later they got flooded and now it will be a month to see it?

  8. Yeah, so, I found a cruise for 2022 that covers both mine and my husband's birthdays (3 days apart) and thought the price wasn't as bad as I've seen for most Oasis-class ship Star suites and booked it.  Our first RCCL cruise is supposed to be next month for our 3 year wedding anniversary, and we are waiting to see how this whole current situation pans out for that.  But my trouble is that I can't find many videos/pictures and information and first-hand experience on my particular cabin I booked. Star Loft on Oasis 1720.  If you've been in that cabin or have sailed in any of the Star class cabins, would you be so kind as to share your experiences?  What did you think of the room, how did it work with the Genie, did you get to try every specialty dining for free, did you feel like it was all worth the price, how do the complimentary gratuities work with it and how much extra should you leave.  I'd love to hear details, see pictures, etc

  9. Well with the new travel restriction, absolutely theme parks are now affected. All the international travelers (minus U.K.) have to now reschedule or cancel their trips to America for the next 30 days.  We need to contain this thing and let it fizzle out.  The less people coming and going internationally the better.  Though I still have plans to visit a theme park next week, and as of this moment am still planning on going on my cruise next month that I planned 15 months in advance.  I live in the same state as the port and the theme park, however, so I don't have to worry about flights and such.
