  1. What you paid for the cruise minus taxes and port charges will be given back to you in the form of a credit off the price of a future cruise. So the cruise portion was essentially free. TA's do not discount taxes or port fees. Those charges don't count toward their commission. So, don't be disappointed.

I agree. For some reason people expect TAs to rebate commission on every sailing. They don't work for free, do you?

  2. First Princess cruise was on the original Island Princess from Vancouver to Alaska in May, 1991. Another ship (Regent Sea) hit us going into Skagway, so Princess flew us all back to Seattle, gave us a nice refund and future cruise credit. We've been on over 35 cruises since.

  3. That Hawaii/Tahiti cruise sounds interesting - which cruise line??

We are slightly more than 10 months from hitting the eject button:D

The 28 day Hawaii/Tahiti cruise is on Princess. This year, they're offering it on the Crown Princess in October. They haven't posted next years sail dates yet.

We also booked a 10 night group cruise on the Royal Princess for April 2015 to celebrate our retirements, mother in laws 80th birthday and other family milestone birthdays/anniversaries.

  4. We are looking to travel on the Carnival Dream during Thanksgiving week. Last time we traveled on the Conquest during Thanksgiving and saved over $280 per room, and received some nice bonuses. :D If anyone is interested in the Carnival Dream out of New Orleans, November 23, let me know. I have already contacted my travel agent that has helped us before, and she said she would work something up depending on the number of cabins. If anyone has any other hints or tips please pass them on...... Thanks

I'm part of a group on that sailing if you are interested in joining our group.

I'm so sorry about your husband and the stress you have been under. I know I have stuff in my closet that would fit you. I'll post this weekend.

  7. Does booking directly with Princess allow any discounts not allowed by TA's?

Some people think that TA's are not paid a commission on the new cruises, where some or all of the money was applied as a future cruise from one of the coastal cruises, where 100% of the money paid for the cabin (minus, NCC's, port charges and taxes) will be applied to the next cruise.

Well, that was the case until about a month ago, when Princess reversed its decision to not pay TA's anything for the "freebee" part of the next cruise.

Now, they pay full commission on even the free part........so I'm told by a very reliable source.:D

This should not create any passenger to think that they would get any of that back. Agencies are in the business to make money.........and help clients, or they would not exist.

Amen and thank you for pointing this out.

  8. While it's sad for the family it was also a very selfish act. Some of those people have saved all their lives to be able to take this cruise and this person who decided to jump overboard has heavily impacted their trip of a lifetime.

Suicide is usually a pretty selfish act without regard to the havoc it causes in other people's lives. I would guess this person was probably traveling with other family who are now stuck on a cruise-from-hell.

This type of thing has to be hard on the captain and crew as well. The person who jumped has "solved" all of her problems but she has caused multiple and long-lasting problems for others.

I have much sympathy for all those who will be impacted by this act.

    I agree 100%.
