  1. Someone had mentioned a Beer Cooler you can purchase onboard other ships, a voyager class ship was mentioned. Are these coolers available on the explorer? I would guess it replaces the beer bucket which would have to be returned, the coolers you take home.

The beer coolers are a lot nicer now. They are plastic, foldable and are insulated. We purchased one as a thank you gift for a friend on the Mariner this past January. Cost (without the beer was $9.95....plus the 15% tip. Never could understand how a product like a beer cooler could demand a gratuity but....) They have the RCI logo and a bottle opener attached. It closes with velcro.

  2. So how was it??? We are taking it in just a couple of weeks!

Unless things have changed my best advice is to make sure you are familiar with older Island music. They have a contest where folk can "Name That Tune" for some little prizes. I still keep drinks in my Kon Tiki koozie.

  3. I agree that the "party boats" are not the same as they once were. There is probably a reason for that I bet. I know my bride wishes she could do one over. We were in Cozumel 10 years ago to get her engagement ring. We rushed downtown, found one and had it sized for her before we went on the Fiesta Party Boat excursion. The boat ride was, er, um...happy. Probably much too happy. Now she is wishing we had gone downtown for the ring after the excursion rather than before it. To this day I believe she would have had to wear a sling to help hold up the ring she could have gotten. ;)

  4. You certainly should not be disappointed. Hint...brush up on the names and music of traditional island music. I was able to win a koozie from the Kon Tiki folks.

Honeymoon beach is lovely as well. Wish we could stay longer but had to start dancing on the boat.

    Enjoy.

  5. I have noticed that it is recommended to bring cash along with you on the excursion for drinks, etc.

Does anyone know if the US dollar is accepted or do we need to exchange our currency?

    Thanks!

St. Thomas is a United States possession. They only accept US $.

  6. Traveling on the Holland America's Zaandam was like sailing on a floating nursing home.

On the Holland America's Zaandam in April of 2009, my Partner and I

were subjected to unwelcome comments. On day in the buffet restaurant

as one of us walked by a table of several women who were looking directly

at one of us, one woman said: "those boys make me sick".

Trust me, we would much rather cruise with you than with them. Even in this day and age...so sad.

  7. Actually it is perfect for kids. In the olden days this tour was a pretty heavy party boat, but after the renovation it is perfectly suited for the whole family. Yes there is a bar on board but the days of free rum punch are long gone. The kids will love the limbo and dance contests as well as their time on Honeymoon Beach.

  8. I booked my Kon tiki boat tour today! Can't wait!!!!'

Since we will be on our honeymoon I thought it only fitting to go to honeymoon beach!

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptuals. You'll love the fun of the Kon-Tiki boat. We were fortunate to one of the first cruises to sail on her upon her returning to service. A fun time to be sure.

  9. So, you went and came back. Tell us of your adventures with the Kon Tiki party boat. As Mamaza (Marc, my brother from an alternate dimension) commented earlier we had a great time and felt it was well worth the money for a relaxing excursion.

  10. Well it's too bad for such short notice, because we're leaving for our cruise in less than three days! Does anyone know when they are starting their service again, or do you know how I can contact them in a short period of time? Princess hasn't yet created an offering in St Thomas for this excursion, but my group is DYING to take this excursion!

If you have any specific info and can contact me at alicia.stetzer@gmail.com, I will be forever grateful! :D

Just curious if you were able to get on with such short notice. If yes, how did it go?

  11. Hey everyone! I see many familiar faces from our cruise almost exactly a year ago! :) I didn't expect to be posting on this thread so soon but we got a great last minute deal and decided to go for it. This is our 3rd time on the Explorer but first time with an infant. We were blessed with our 6th precious kiddo this past July and she'll just have turned 6 months old before we leave end of January. My question is, are there baby changing stations in any of the public restrooms? (I never paid attention before). Any other tips for traveling with an infant on Explorer? Looking forward to some much needed time away (older kiddos have no clue yet we are going, will be a Christmas surprise for them!)

Jenn can't answer your question, but it is good to see you posting. A lot of the gang from last year is once again on the Explorer, leaving in less than two weeks. Enjoy your float trip.

  12. I know I should be patient and look back but....one I am at work (shhhh) and the other, probably more important, I am lazy. Sorry.

Although we were on the Explorer last December my mind has erased from its memory bank the time necessary from the ship to Newark Airport while using the RCI shuttle. My TA just told me that RCI suggests no flights before 2 PM. To me that is ridiculous but it made me wonder if there are so few people who actually fly for this cruise they only provide perhaps one bus to the airport.

Can anyone help an old timer out here? I believe our flight is about 12:30 but if there is only one bus to the airport we might be in trouble.

    Thanks.

You can try and call them and see what might be available.

  14. For those who are interested. Kon Tiki is back in operation and taking reservations though the local cruise ship companies... well, at least through RCI. I know cuz we booked them... thanks, rharvey999.:D

We'll post our review of the new and improved Kon Tiki Party boat upon our return. Now y'all have something to look forward to.

  15. We just received word that the Kon-Tiki party boat is now back in business. We had noticed this excursion posted on the man Royal Caribbean site but it had not appeared on our cruise. Low and behold it popped up yesterday.

We did this excursion a few years ago and had a good time. Considering the relative low cost $49 we decided to try her again.

  16. While I do agree that the crew staff know what will get the audiences' best response I don't believe they are given prompts to say. I have seen couples participate in the Newlywed game that have obviously practiced their lines before hand, since there is no way all the questions could be answered exactly alike. This one, obviously practiced couple, were almost booed for their attempt at being humorous.

That being said, my bride and I were participants in the twist contest on the Adventure a few years ago. As the third couple to dance the Cruise Director did come over and say, "if you want to win you will have to do something to wow the crowd". So yes, I did whip off my shirt and twirl it over my head prior to throwing it into the crowd (I am the husband...:(). We are not youngsters by the way. The crowd did yell and cheer and yes we did win. Was it staged? Nope. Perhaps the cruise staff have a talent to watch for folks who are more "open". Perhaps not. Maybe we were just the best dancers.
