  1. Nope, not going to be made to feel guilty.

Bottom line is if I have booked a land holiday in a hotel or apartment I would not be expected to pay almost $500 in tips. Yes, I would tip waiters, doormen, room service, room cleaners etc.... but this would not go towards the behind the scenes staff.

I assume mjkacmom, nolesrules & cruisinfanatic when staying at a hotel that you all are quite generous and leave a massive tip to be shared to all the behind the scenes staff? Can you confirm that is the case?

The comment about not affording the cruise if you cannot afford to tip is daft. We as a family have saved for 3 years for this cruise. We are not well off by any means, and can afford to tip. As stated in the OP this should be down to choice.

Don't always assume that cruisers are very wealthy people and that all staff are paid an absolute pittance and/or are living in poverty.

WOW! The stereotyping poverty police are out to play.

Emphasis added: then maybe cruising isn't for you

  2. Air2Sea will tell you again and again but Royal won't cancel your cruise unless you cancel your airfare.

    From the Air2Sea FAQ

    http://www.royalcaribbean.com/customersupport/faq/details.do?pagename=frequently_asked_questions&pnav=5&pnav=2&faqType=faq&faqSubjectId=324&faqSubjectName=Air+Travel&faqId=3727

What happens if a guest with Air2Sea cancels their cruise?

A:Guests with non-refundable tickets will not be canceled. They own the ticket. Guest with refundable tickets will be refunded, but subject to the airline's rules, conditions and penalties. Guests should contact the Air2Sea Support Desk at (800) 533-7803 with any questions about cancellations and/or refunds.

  3. It's commonly reported that many people leave at intermission. If you are unable to get in for the full show it should be very easy to find good seats for the second half.

Not only that, the cruise director pleads with the theater to stay for the whole show and the comedians lament about how bad it is. Cats is a running joke all over the ship, its a wonder why they have even kept it on.

The acting and music is fantastic, the talent is there, but it is completely wasted on this piece of trash theater production.

  4. I was on last week's sailing. Three friends and I had been drinking in one of the bars. We left because we all had to use the bathroom - really bad. Fortunately one of the public restrooms was near by. We had a little trouble with the door, but we were able to get in. No sooner were we done with our business when four security guards dressed like police officer stopped us as we were getting into the golf cart that would take us to our cabins. One of them pointed a gun at my head and forced us to go to Johnny Rockets and buy a hamburger.

That shook me up pretty good. So at the next port stop I got off and didn't get back on. My friends stayed on the ship and I understand that they were not allowed to disembark. Fortunately they were eventually released and they are home now. I didn't want to say anything sooner because I was concerned for their safety.

So yes, they sometimes do hold a gun to your head and make you buy their hamburgers.

    I understood this reference

  5. You really know how to impress the ladies - she's a lucky girl!

You: "Hey honey, I just booked us the biggest cabin ever!!"

Wifey: "You got us a SUITE?! Oh wow!!"

You: "No, I got you a DISABLED cabin! Yes, that's right - I'm your prince!"

    LMAO!

    Well she is disabled so...

But I am just kidding, I didn't book it lol

  6. I got an email today from NCL offering me a $100 on board credit for taking their Margaritaville Resort "excursion" and sitting through a 45 minute sales pitch. Margaritaville is a timeshare property by Wyndham near Coki Beach. The excursion costs $100 per couple and includes lunch, 2 drinks per person, transportation and full use of the resort for the entire day. Has anyone had any experience doing this and is it worth it?

You have to pay for it?

NO. They are selling you a time share. They are aggressive. You will feel bad for not buying one.

My wife and I sat through one at Ron Jon in Port Canaveral. Even I almost bought one. Really time shares are not the terrible thing people have made them out to be but we didn't actually end up using any of the facilities, we were really after the free transportation from Orlando airport. We'd never do it again, its just a waste of our time, and their time.

  7. And I wonder if the windows had not been frosted, and the OP got a "Surprise!" From a crew member, if this thread would have been about how the crew can see right into your room and "beware" etc etc... it sucks that you pay for an Ocean VIEW and get a frosted window, but there was obvious need for them to frost those windows. Hopefully NCL will update the list of "obstructions" for these rooms so people booking them know what to expect.

Well I know when we've had a balcony and the crew was expected to be out there cleaning, they left a note in our cabin giving us advanced notice. I would expect the same from an OX cabin if they were going to be out there.

  8. How do you know it was the ocean on the other side of the frosted glass and not a light that is set to mimic daylight? Just kidding.

I agree, a frosted glass does not make an ocean view. It would have been very difficult for me to not demand an actual ocean view (cabin change) or refund of the difference between my cabin cost and an inside cabin price.

We might have complained however we booked for $370 pp and got the drink package and we would have been happy in an inside if we could have got the drink package. Going to an inside would have cost MORE near sailing and I know what customer service would have said anyway: "that is considered an obstructed view, sorry" We've not had a lot of positive experience with NCL's customer service.

Ultimately this was not a big deal for us, we had a blast on the cruise and would have regardless of the cabin type, I just wanted to make sure people are aware that "ocean view" does not always mean "ocean view"
