If it were free for everyone to use, I'm guessing it would be amazingly slow.
It is already amazingly slow. And that's with the current high price tags.
It may be feasible some years down the road, but no way for now. Presently affordable technology is the bottle neck, not Royal's policies.
You also have to consider if free wifi is beneficial to the cruise lines even when technology becomes available and affordable. Cruise ships are not hotels. Cruise lines do not like it if everyone is cooped up in their room surfing the Internet. That would seriously hurt their on board spending. So unless you can think of ways to help cruise lines make money by offering you wifi, it still won't happen.

When you have to work on Saturday, your Friday night entertainment is the cc board. :D

That thing looks FUGLY!
I just hope they don't take away too much real estate, views, etc from other cabana renters and folks who don't want to spend extra to rent anything.

An "L" shaped room is hard to come by, so if I were you, I'd grab it and give it a try. You can always go back to regular balconies for future cruises for good if you don't like it. But you never know for sure until you try it out at least once for yourself.
I tried it once. To me, it's nice but the difference is minimal. I don't rank it higher or lower than a regular balcony in a similar location.

Very sorry about your loss, OP. Do whatever makes you feel better.
Perspective--Back in 2003 we took a repo cruise LA - Vancouver that was at the tail end of a World Cruise on HAL. At dinner we were 8 at a 10 top. There were two women sitting alone, each at their own table. DH, being friendly says to the waiter they can join us if they want.
Waiter looks at the women and back to DH. paraphrasing - "That woman's husband died during the cruise. She went home, buried him and came back. The other woman also lost her husband during the cruise. She just shipped his body home."
The father of a friend of mine went on a long cruise and came back with a similar story. Two women started that cruise with their husbands and by the end of the cruise they were widows.

After the show, we return to our rooms to a gorgeous view outside. (This was taken past midnight. It never got completely dark!)
We have to shoo this little guy off the bed and turn in for the evening.
Great review! Keep it coming!
These two pictures are very striking and shows how much more daylight time you got around the summer solstice. My GF and I sailed the 8/31 sailing and it got dark much earlier. It was dark around 8.

I've got a group going next year. Was the fishing an RCCL tour or outside? I have a few people interested in this.
Thanks
Not with RCCL. It was a private charter, Ketchikan Charter. Small boat, no rush. Very pleased with them. Fish was vacuum processed and shipped home.
There are other charters mentioned on CC's Alaska section too. Some offer larger boats for larger groups.

A "Party ship" is the reputation Carnival is hoping for. Low price party (aka, fun) is the sales pitch. Younger, lower to medium income first time cruisers who want to party make up the target market.
Nothing wrong with it. But it's not for everyone.

Those are the MILLION DOLLAR money shots all right! :D
Dragon, my GF and I were also on this cruise. And we seem to have followed the same schedule as you and your husband. I literally just arrived home this morning. Still in after glow. :D Trying to catch up on emails. The ship and the lodge had good internet but we were too busy to use it.
We did Salmon fishing in Ketchikan. Went sea kayaking in Icy Straight Point In Juneau, we had a flightseeing tour. And GF insisted on seeing Sarah Palin's governor house. :D We also took the train to Anchorage right after getting off the ship on the 7th. Rented a car and drove up to Denali the same day. On the 8th we went into the Denali national park. Saw tons animals but didn't see the peaks. On the 9th we did a water rafting tour. Drove back to Anchorage yesterday and also saw the PEAKs but not as good as your pictures. We were a few hours earlier and the weather wasn't cleared yet.
For those of you hoping to visit Alaska, DO IT! :D Loved Alaska this time of year. Salmon and bears were all out and about. Loved Radiance. The ship is beautiful and perfect for Alaska. Lots of windows give lots of viewing.

I am leaving tomorrow for the same cruise. I will be following your review from onboard. Should be awesome. :D
BTW, I heard the ship is getting better satellite dishes this week, just in time for our cruise. I plan to check out the speed.

Awesome pictures!

Printing out the boarding pass as I type. It's for the Vancouver bound flight tomorrow. :D

I forgot to mention that the satellites were all replaced in Seward on Friday. Here is a picture of one on the ground. The captain has said the bandwidth has now been increased and beginning possibly as soon as today, the Internet speed should increase by as much as 10 times.
That's great news!

(Thank you to prcrum for the posting pictures lesson!)
Aft pool...
Aft pool bar and seating area (Tandoori and Deli (or was it pizza??/) are also in this area)
Nice pics! Dream's an awesome ship.

Now THAT is a ship!
-
Not into it but don't mind it.
-
Yes, it's true.
Thanks! That's great to know.

I am glad it is coming to NYC. Is it true Splendor's spa balconies are non-smoking too, like on Dream?
I moved from Miami last year and am suffering withdrawal. I used to cruise at least 6 times a year. Now I have to kill time on CC. Good to know Norwegian's Breakaway is coming to NY too. And i hope Royal keeps at least one ship in this area.

I absolutely miss them on Oasis class. I think lack of a promenade is the only thing I do not like about that class. And that's why as awesome as Oasis class is, Freedom class remains my go to ships.
I hope Royal brings them back to Sunshine ships.

Very sorry about your loss. :(
My coworker was on the same cruise and heard the page but didn't know what happened.

Man that was loud! Wonder which was the horny one? Hal or Princess?

Which port has a Royal sponsored Chichen Itza excursion? I can't find it under Cozumel.

I heard Carnival imports all pasta from Italy and all chocolate from Switzerland. Everything else is from the US.
Disappointed with RCCL

What a royal fail.
To be honest, I don't think it's horrible and it doesn't look bad for a child. But that's not the point. If anyone tries to pass that thing as a sofa bed, well, I have a bridge in the Sahara desert ...
