  1. not to be snarky, but you can view the menus before you commit to a speciality restaurant

No you can't. They nickel and dime you over the head as they drag you to the table, strap you down and force feed you what they know you want. Then they pull an extra $10 from your wallet for good measure as they through you out the front door... all while Zakarian collects a check seeing as how he's never set foot on the ship.

  2. Sorry if this has been asked before -

just quickly looking at the boards before leaving for work.

I asked NCL before our June Breakaway cruise if I could prepay the UBP and they said no.

    Have they changed that?

    Thanks

    Kathy

You should be able to prepay the UBP if it is offered on your sailing. By that I mean there is discussion stating UBP is not offered on some sailings, like during spring break.

If NCL says its available but won't let you prepay it, hang up and speak to someone else.

  3. Of course they are not saying it is dandy if people drown. What they are doing is making excuses for the cruise lines not having life guards that could prevent drownings. Legal liability is an excuse. The only way not to have any liability is not to have a pool. The cruise lines figure it is cheaper not to have lifeguards, and cheaper includes not just the cost of lifeguards but the cost of any liability. If someone drowns they will send a sympathy card.

It's more about a hazard/risk assessment. Yes, those are two different things.

The hazard of a meteor strike is death, but since the risk is so low we don't bother installing meteor shields all over the place. The hazard of drowning in a cruise ship pool caries with it such a relatively low risk that a lifeguard simply makes no sense.

Besides, you're purposefully ignoring the multitude of ship's staff (as well as other pax) around the pool at any given time, many of whom I would venture to guess are trained in first aid/CPR.

Your final sentence about the "evil corporation" and their sympathy card is utterly pointless. But if it'll make you feel better, we can ask NCL to place cardboard cutouts of David Hasselhoff at all the pools.

  4. I don't plan on drinking more with UBP..... I used to order whatever I felt like having prior to UBP. Just trying to save some money

You don't have to explain yourself to the moral police... despite popular belief, they don't know how to parent your children better than you and the Gestapo have not taken over cruise critic just yet.

  5. Really am so undecided about this. We leave next Sunday and we need to make our decision as I'd like to pre-order and pay for so it's not on my charge at the end of the week.

We will be docking Bermuda so we are not 100% it make sense. The first and last day that we are docked we plan to just walk off the ship and see what's around the dock and spend part of the day at the pool but Thursday we will spend the day at the beach.

I also don't want to feel like I have to constantly be drinking in order to get my money's worth but I also know that with the drink prices it would not take long to add up. Like a previous poster - mimosa in the morning, couple of drinks at the pool, drink to take back to the room while gettng ready for dinner, wine, maybe caisno drinks.l

I think may just for the peace of mind to not have to worry about whether or not we will have a huge bill at the end of the week but I know if I keep track of my slips and find out we didn't spend the full amount I'll be aggravated that I made the decisio to purchase.

    Sorry for the rambling :)

I, too, am a tad undecided but leaning toward doing it for an Alaska cruise coming up. There is a fair amount of ship time in AK...two sea days plus the glacier cruises makes for a lot of time on deck at the bar. In Bermuda, the ship just sits there docked for three days, right? With that much time potentially off the ship, the UBP may not make sense.

Don't aggravate yourself. If you choose the UBP, don't save the tickets for counting later. No good can come from that!
