You are correct regarding TX. While in TX waters, there are limited alcohol choices from TX and the full range of choices comes out once international waters are hit. NY does not require NY stamped bottles. They just do not allow unlimited drink packages. TEXAS DOES NOT ALLOW UNLIMITED DRINK OFFERS ALSO, so.....no Cheers in Tx waters

Has anyone else noticed that the 4J cabins are not listed/available on the Dream?

Carnival does not care for about your medications but Customs and the DEA as well as state authorities do care. They are on the outlook for people who bought narcotics in ports so I would follow the rules certainly with controlled drugs. Also I would never walk around in Mexico or other ports with unlabeled drugs where the police do not need probable cause to search a visitor and are on the lookout of an easy mark to shakedown.
Customs, DEA and State authorities do not care about a 7 day supply of your RX drugs. They wont even look twice at you. That is not what they are looking for. I know this, because I are one. 🙂 And why would you carry your RX drugs with you in port? That is not a good idea. Put them in your pill pack, leave them in your bathroom, and don't worry.

Travel out of New Orleans and you will pass within approximately150-200 feet of each other on Mississippi river. We were on the Dream returning and passed by the Triumph departing. It was about midnight and we had just entered the Mississippi. Both ships were lit up. Quite a sight.

Pretty sure Galveston will still be there in 2019. No risk at all.

READ THE CARNIVAL WEBSITE. They are very clear.
straight from Carnival website:
A clear, legible copy of a birth certificate that was originally issued by a government agency (state/county/city) or the Department of Health and Vital Statistics. The copy does not need to be notarized or certified. -
Here's an idea. Why not skip the game and enjoy your cruise. Why watch a bunch of thugs insult our military and flag while protesting the police officers that protect us.

Good luck collecting from him. This is not a good plan. If the cruise line has a legitimate claim to the funds it will just go to collections. -
I would say that 6, 7 ,8 , or 9 would be the best. Of course they aren't called oceanview rooms, they are called interior obstructed view or 4J. They are basically an oceanview room at an interior room price. They are located at the front of the ship with the "secret decks".

FYI. There is a thread on here somewhere that lists the cove balconies w/o lifeboats. DO the search engine and you should be able to pull it up. We were in a cove with a lifeboat above and it really didn't seem to affect anything. You are recessed anyway so you will have something above you.

A certain amount of liquor is duty free in Galveston just like all other ports. Now, "Duty Free" is specific to FEDERAL CUSTOMS laws. You will not be charged a duty fee at CUSTOMS counter. Texas law does impose STATE tax on all liquor. That is entirely separate from CUSTOMS. What you declare on CUSTOMS sheet has nothing to do with Texas tax. CUSTOMS doesn't enforce Texas tax law. Your stop at the Texas TABC booth (after clearing CUSTOMS) is on a voluntary basis. If the liquor is not plainly visible, they will not look twice at you. Walk on by.

We sail out of Galveston. I have ordered a bottle for the room on 2 occasions. Both times it was delivered shortly after hitting international waters on day 1. I guess it can depend on how busy they are, in when they get around to delivering.

What. No Serenity Deck? If I were you, I would just cancel the cruise and demand grief counseling from Carnival. No one should be treated like
that.

A few things never get old.
1. Going to the Guest Service desk and seeing the line +10 people and I can go straight to the Diamond/Platinum line where there is no line.
2. Being escorted out of the VIP Lounge on the way to boarding the ship. I give the masses waiting and watching my Platinum Wave.
3. I'm one of those Early risers that grabs about 4 lounge chairs on Serenity Deck for just the two us.
4. Going to the return cruiser party for Diamond / Platinum.
Putting up with snotty people like this
-
No problem. They will wait for you.

They are not HANDICAP cabins. They are cabins that are handicap accessible . They will not bump you unless there are no accessible rooms available anywhere on the ship (any class). Just because someone waits til last minute to book, does not entitle them a room in any class they desire. If 4Js are sold out and there are insides or balconies that are handicap accessible available, then that is what they get to choose from.

Yep I was wondering why anyone would want a balcony light on :o
and I wonder why YOU care what some other passenger does????

I want to book a room on Carnival Magic and am looking at an ocean view room mid-ship on Deck 1. This is our first cruise so thought lower down might be better for anyone that could feel sea sick. But, would we hear engine noise or feel vibration that low down? Also, would it be hard to get an elevator to the upper decks to go to the pool, etc. Any advice? Thanks.
Riviera deck mid ship will be the quietest place on board. I would take a Riviera deck (1) room over a Main deck (2) room anytime.

It also depends on where you are going. The Belize, Roatan, Cozumel trip is notorious for being cleared slowly through Customs.

I saw somewhere that he had retired.

But where is the Magic going???? Has anyone heard?

Are you cruising with a passport? If so..this won't be an issue.
If you were planning on cruising with a DL & birth certificate, I would go and get a passport. You can have one expedited at a passport agency in 8 business days. In TX we get a paper DL that looks like a photo copy of an unsigned DL. I thought it was a joke when they gave it to me. I would never try to fly or leave the country with something like this. This may be recognized in your state, but the TSA, US Customs, Carnival reps, and and foreign security may not recognize that your state accepts a piece of paper.
I would not take a chance. You spent a lot of money and time planning your cruise. Get a passport and enjoy your trip. Here is a link to find a passport agency/expedite location.

Good luck.
I am from Texas and the paper temporary DL issued by DPS is all you need. It meets the definition of a govt issued picture ID. It is accepted by Carnival, TSA, Immigration, and all other states. You are fine with the paper version. I believe the OP stated the DMV told him the hardcopy would arrive in 20 days. He will probably get it sooner. In Texas we tell people 15-20 days and the actual turnaround is closer to 5-10 days.

It will usually be less of a choice from room service. It all depends on what the ship has in stock at the time you order. There is also a chance that there will be none available for you to purchase, again depending on the stock available. They will keep the bars stocked and you are the lowest priority.

The Sunshine does not have the PUB. It has the BAR. thus no food. The Triumph has the BAR too. The BAR is outside on Lido deck. The PUB is an inside venue.
CHEERS Liquor Brands
in Carnival Cruise Lines
Posted
What you may have encountered was that particular bar did not have the brand you requested. Usually the Alchemy and Steakhouse bars carry a more extensive list of top shelf liquor. I drink Blanton's and it was only available at Alchemy and Steakhouse. And those bars had a limited number o bottles. when it was gone, it was gone.
