1. On a British isles cruise in June it was very cold but lots of people bundled up in blankets and beanies and watched the movie at night, my DH included. I sensibly watched a movie on TV in the cabin : )

  2. I know how to handle myself when confronted by rude people. I feel sorry for the crew members who are defenseless and have to remain mute or risk their jobs.

We saw an American (I only mention this as it wasn't a cultural difference issue) of over 6 foot yelling at the young female crew member. Towering over her he said " I'll tell you how it's going to be..." And continued his rant. This was in a public area not at the passenger services desk.

This happened a few times on our cruise. I am amazed that anyone can find it acceptable to yell at the crew when they go to so much trouble to cater to passengers every wish to make people happy.

People constantly queue jumping is annoying but not as upsetting as seeing and hearing "entitled" people treating others who can't fight back with contempt.

Sometimes, with passenger services especially, you don't get the result you want. It's easy to come back another time and get a different crew member who might understand and be able to solve your problem.

  3. Fair question. First, I like true, two-story dining rooms. Next, the ropes course and waterpark are the only things I really find amusement park-ish on the BREEZE. And while it might not make sense, I simply don't like the way the QUANTUM class ships look.

Anthem of the Seas is really huge we saw it at Southampton. I was worried that the Royal Princess was too large but it never seemed crowded except on the first night when everyone wanted to dine at the same time.

This one takes you to Stonehenge then right to the cruise terminal with commentary. We did it on disembarkation day and it was great.

The national express bus at 7 GBP each is a lot cheaper. You can walk from the bus station to the cruise terminal but a taxi is easier and ours was 5 GBP. We used it prior to embarkation day.

  5. Hi,

Can someone please give me the link to princess@sea for an iPhone.

I have it on my phone and am trying to put it on DH's.

I know I am technologically challenged but he searched the ap store and couldn't find it either even using every possible combination of words.

    Thank you so much.

  6. THANK YOU! I shall make sure to put the mini samples I received from a hotel stay, which I ADORE and can easily use, in my toiletry bag. It's getting rather full, I've been collecting sample sizes of dental care; hair care; fragrance and make up for quite some time. I intend to use up, and discard in the supplied rubbish bin, the bottle/jar/tube.

The last time I stayed at my favourite Capital city hotel, they'd changed to a new range which I personally wasn't favourably impressed with-only "collected" a set for me and 1 for a friend who actually didn't like it, so I have both sets. I personally always have trouble with a 2-in-1 shampoo, even from my preferred company, it just DOESN'T work for me!

The two in one stuff works for no one that I know but it's still in the supermarkets so someone must like it.

  7. Or you can get an excellent simplified explanation when, as I did, you get to go on a Speed Awareness Course as a result of having misinterpreted how fast I was allowed to go :(

    Ooooops!

I can see how that can easily happen. That's why the signage could be improved.

  8. The end of a local speed limit is a black diagonal bar on a circular white sign.

Where there's no local speed limit, the national limit for cars is 60 mph on single carriageway roads (try that if you dare, on Cornwall's little back lanes :D) and 70 mph on dual carriageways (divided highways) including motorways.

    Happy motoring

    JB :)

The back road signage was good.

We figured out the others with the help of the GPS which seemed accurate (not always the case in Oz).

Lots of cars around so generally it was ok.

I like the Cornwall roads! They are mostly not as bad as you Brits say : )

  9. Hi Paddingtonbear,

It is port that does search bag scan, they have there own rules ,

It's only once you board ship that Princess employees might search your bags, port folks can act on behalf of cruise company but port rules over ride cruise line rules, never seen lockers but stuff l have had taken off Me was kept until l returned from my cruise

Oh that's nice to know that they held your stuff. Thanks Shogun.

  10. Indeed, I've never yet known a GPS to be able to keep up with my driving. Or, indeed, anyone else's driving. I can always navigate better with a map (and sometimes without a map) than any GPS I've ever known, so I always take and use maps whenever I can.

I use a gps from home (so I know how to use it) and a map because the GPS will send you goodness knows where if you don't check it.

The blue dot on the phone GPS is useless to me. I don't know how others manage it. We turn and the blue dot jumps and we are on the wrong road.

I don't agree with whoever said that the signage in the UK is good. They tend to list the next town only which isn't always a great help. Also, there are very few speed signs. How are visitors supposed to know that the speed limit on the motorways is 70 or goodness knows what on the back road?

  11. You're spending far too much time in the big bad city, G.

We're much more considerate out in the sticks.

You should emigrate to Cornwall - nobody there ever hogs even the middle lane of the motorway. ;)

    JB :)

Ha ha. That's because there aren't any middle lanes on the highways in Cornwall isn't it?

We've been driving on single track roads (one lane roads for two way traffic for those who don't know I kid you not! Not for the faint hearted) around Cornwall this week. Such fun! I must say they are cute though but no chance to stop and take photos.

  12. Cider without alcohol is called apple juice (surprisingly logical for us Brits);).

I can't drink cider without ill effects - I am a beer drinker - drinking cider has the same effect on me as putting diesel into a petrol engine.

    Apple juice, exactly!

I'm not sure what it is about cider, even the normal very commercial stuff, but a lot of people can't drink it.

And don't get me started on Scrumpy

Some ciders, ar in Britain, are made of pear or strawberry or elderberry with no apple at all. Other than the pear one, which is very sweet, they are very nice.

  13. HI all!

I just returned from Prague & London where I used Viator for the 1st time.

I was pleased with their service (shared transfer), wonder if it'd work for you.

    ~ Jo ~ :)

Viator is a tour consolidator. They just on sell other people's tours/services. If you look on line you should be able to deduce the actual provider and book direct at a lower price.

  14. If two of you are sharing a meal, and not buying any drinks, many pubs would not look kindly at being asked to provide a free jug of water. You're not exactly making their fortune are you ? Do not be surprised therefore if you do get charged for the water, whereas if you've bought a couple of meals and a couple of rounds, a glass of 'tap water' will cheerfully be provided.

Bob is right it is a legal requirement in Australia and in Britain that pubs and restaurants provide free tap water.

It isn't just a money saving ploy by me to share an entree and main with my husband. I don't often drink alcohol and I hate to waste food. My dh also hates to waste food so he will eat anything I leave. He is trying to lose weight and I don't eat much so it's good for both of us. I am happy to be given glasses of water but since I go through more than a litre of water with dinner I always ask for a jug. My dh generally has a pint.

The only time we have ever had a problem was when we asked to share a main only at one restaurant. They said we'd have to go to the pub to do that rather than the restaurant. But most restaurants just bring two plates. I don't see much difference between one of us eating alone at a restaurant and both of us sharing a plate.

  15. Hi,

When boarding is it the ships people that search your bags? Or port authorities who are unrelated to the ship?

Can you ask them to quarantine items (not alcohol) that might not be allowed on board rather than have them thrown away?

Are there lockers at the port of Southampton where you can store stuff for the length of the cruise?

  16. Depends. Two people traveling need to charge both phones overnight, especially when having a port the next day. Also have two cameras that need to be charged overnight so there is enough battery to take all the pics and video. That is all necessary, at least in my case to be charged each night. Possibly more. Depends on different people's needs.

Yes we have two cameras that need charging, two phones and a laptop.the laptop is also a back up for photos.

My kindle lasts for days without charging the sensible little bit of equipment that it is. Annoyingly the laptop and the keyboard separate and need to be charges separately.

  17. I am on my mobile so can't get plans but the general advice is to choose a cabin:

With cabins on the deck above and below

With interior cabins across the hall from it - not near lifts or the laundry

Not very far aft or very forward if you suffer from sea sickness

Not on the side of the skywalk for 3 or 4 decks below and around the walkway as there may be privacy issues

Not below or aft of the smoking areas on the top deck (not 100% sure where this is, sorry)

Not in the aft cabins if a possible soot issue may worry you.

  18.
I do write most of my stuff off line and then copy and paste. However, my netbook that I have used is out of date and I therefore will need to buy something new. That being said, inasmuch as our travels have been medically curtailed, I don't need a new one. :)
So sorry to hear that, Pia. I hope you get the need to buy a new netbook soon [emoji3]

Can't you download the pages and read them and respond off line then reconnect and post your response?
    This would save Internet minutes.
