We signed up for the free airfare, ($149 each from my location) I asked to fly a day early - March is snow storm season - but they said it wasn't really possible. My biggest concern was having a delay due to a storm. 2ndary motivation was having an extra day in Miami.  They did say if you use their airfare, they will catch you up to the ship at the next port of call for free if you miss the sailing, so I guess that's OK. We'd have a couple nights in Miami or St. Thomas waiting for the ship.

Have any of you missed the ship due to delays?

We just booked  using the airfare offer and we are flying into Miami the day before,,, it cost us 99$ PP each way. So a total of $200 which made me pretty happy and no worries abt missing departure

"They are on vacccysion maaamm, let them enjoy"

So am I working on the ship?
"Haaaaahaaa too funny maaammm, Have a nice day maaamm"

    REALLY!

in that case I would DEF be moving it all immediately! how rude!

  3. the added costs are the pay restaurants,( the main DR are fantastic , but  we mostly skip the pay ones except for special occasion), photos, the bars and soda ( if you don't buy the package), stuff like that are all extra and typically a couple of the shows require $. ( we love the free shows in the theatre too)

We make our show and shore excursions reservations online asap ( I believe its 90 days prior to sailing) because some fill up SO fast. We like to eat at 5p so we can make the 7p shows, so we reserve the dining times as Weill.  Have fun and welcome to NCL!! 😉

  4. I brought this sportbrella chair on 2 of my trips to Bermuda. I knew I was going to beaches that didn't have chair rentals. It has it's own umbrella and fold into a bag that you can carry on your shoulder. I didn't take a bus though, we went in a taxi. It fits under the bed or you can stand it up in the closet. I just put a luggage tag on it and it was delivered to my cabin with my luggage.

Can you tell me which beaches DONT have rental umbrella's and chairs?? I definetly need at least umbrella shade,,,, TIA!

    :D

  5. I also have a small plastic basket (currently overflowing) on my office/sewing room table that I toss things into that I know I'll be packing...AS THEY GET DELIVERED BY AMAZON!! [emoji41]

YES!! Except mine goes into one of those cube baskets!! And I'm not currently booked, but still ordering !! (Currently choosing our next :')) :')

  6. Yes! We do only carry-on. It takes careful packing and planning. Our record carry-on was a 17 day winter Med cruise plus 5 nights in London. A week long cruise is definitely manageable.

I can supply details, but would most likely bore most readers!

I would love details pls!!:D

  7. For the BA, ship can arrive back in NY as early as 5 or 6 AM & docked before 7 AM ... but, the earliest (for most sailing, there are many "random" exceptions ... i.e. our sightseeing whales had been spotted as far north as GW Bridge last month chasing school of fishes (food) with marine traffic being asked to exercise care) for self disembarkation is often between 7:30 and 8 AM. CBP does NOT show up any earlier ... even if the dock is ready & porters are there, etc. to start the processing.

Folks are known to skip even cont'l breakfast & join the line as early as 6 to 6:30 AM, could be hundreds standing on both ends of the BA as two gangways are used - but, kept away by crew from hanging out around deck 7. Use the AFT stairs as elevators are typically jammed full - there's only one set of escalators & stairs (elevators only for the accessible) to get close to the gangway once they are ready.

Not everyone is eager to rush off the ship, eventually - all will be asked to disembark but perhaps a thousand people trying and cutting in to get off isn't exaggerated. Delays and backups are typically inside the arrival halls, even before reaching the luggage holding area (being setup) - you will be pushing, pulling & backpacking your way to reach CBP's booth further ahead, from the back/far end of the pier building (into the Hudson River) & work your way to the uniformed officers, making sure your ID's/passports & customs declaration form are fully filled up & ready.

Some of these are within NCL's control but many are NOT, subject to security & CBP procedures on the day of disembarkation ... thus, efforts to make any late morning trains, bus departure, tours or flights, etc. are always risky ... no matter what anyone "promised" otherwise. But, if you do want to roll the dices, feel free and be sure to have top-notch travel insurance to cover delays ... as NCL's optional plan purchased usually do NOT.

The shorter line to exit the pier is to "engage" the services of a porter, who will assist you with your luggage thru their dedicated lane thru the CBP area, and get you out to 12th Ave - it's a long walk with luggage in tow, well worth the investment in tipping ... easily save you an extra 15 to 30 minutes.

Can I ask-how do you get a porter and what do you typically pay? I've never usec one before..... thx!!

  8. If you want something a little more modern, hip, and fun, check out Yotel, which is only a few blocks from the port and has a great vibe.

We stay there when we go in for the weekend and love it. Might not be your scene if you are into a more traditional run of the mill hotel, but if you want something you wont find in every other town in the country, Yotel is my top pick.

We are actually booked there!! ( our TA suggested it!!) HOw is it, what makes it different? ( besides the automated parts I saw online,,,)Are the rooms big enough, clean etc?

    TIA!!!

  9. Im already booked for next year with my daughter on the breakaway. Question- my son " might" want to join us,,, can I add him to our room( of course paying for him,,, not trying to be shady) and how late have you done this, if anyone has? Thx!!

  10. Hi, my 12 year old son was diagnosed with celiac disease a year and a half ago. I was hesitant to plan a vacation last year but decided to bite the bullet and cruised on the breakaway out of New York. This is not a lifestyle choice for him, he received this unlucky gene from my husbands side of the family. My father in law almost died 3 years ago before he was properly diagnosed. As soon as I entered the ship I met with the food manager. My son immediately gets sick when he ingests gluten and he never got sick the week we cruised on the breakaway. He was able to order whatever he wanted whenever he wanted - granted we had to wait an extra 30 minutes sometimes. They promised us that everything would be prepared separately. Some of the items he ate were - gluten free bread, muffins, English muffins, waffles French toast, pancakes, eggs, omelets, bacon and sausages. Lunch was hamburgers with gluten free buns, gluten free pizza, French fries that were prepared in clean oil, salmon, ribs with special gluten free barbecue sauce, fried calamari which by the way was his favorite - he had it every night lol! He didn't have to order a Gluten free version of what was on the menu - he ordered whatever he wanted when he wanted - again we would sometimes have to wait 30 minutes or so extra well worth the wait. We would meet with one of the chefs at every meal. He had such a good time on vacation he cried when getting off the ship. I asked him why he was crying and he said because the food was so good and he didn't get sick! Sorry for the long winded message. A word of advice pack some gluten free snacks from home so when you get off the ship you have something safe to munch on! Also I was able to check the ingredients on the soft serve ice cream - as long as it hasn't changed it is safe.

Thank you for the list! I am traveling next yr with my daughter who has a severe wheat allergy, so is completely GF. This makes me much more confident and I LOVE the option!! :D:D
