  1. Our flight into Orlando is at 8:00 the night before our cruise in March. I couldn't find any shuttles that ran that late. They all stopped around 6:00. We are staying at the Cocoa Beach Comfort Inn & Suites because of that. They have a package that includes the transportation from the airport to the hotel and back to the airport after the cruise. They also include the shuttle to the port. The hotel said they use Travelynx for the airport shuttle. I called Travelynx to get a quote. They said that because I had a "late" flight arrival, they would have to charge $100 for the two of us. DH didn't want to rent a car, so I chose to stay at the Comfort Inn and use the package price. Renting a car may be the cheaper option for you, especially if you are traveling with others back to the airport after the cruise.

Where did you find this info online?

my flight comes in at 11:30 the night before our cruise in January. I have booked a hotel, but can change if CBCI will transport me to/from the airport.

    Thanks

  2. I am not a cruise virgin, but have only been on 2... wife on 3... so some of this is still new.

We are on the Jan 12th sailing of Freedom.

    Currently have a Promenade Inside.

Looks like they are sold out of PI's... and I think all the insides are Guarantee's. I haven't looked at every category below PI, but I think there is very little choice left....

I have heard people talk about the "upgrade fairy".

I assume that is when someone from RCI calls and asks if you want to pay a little more to get a better category cabin? This in turn opens up lower tiered cabins for those that have booked GTY's?

Is their any chance that we will be upgraded without our consent or knowledge? I like midship (we are pretty much dead centre) and that is pretty much #1 importance, and we currently are on a floor with rooms above and below us (for quiet).

In everyone's experience... is it better to book a GTY on a sailing that has many categories already sold out, in hopes that people are satisfied iwth their mid-tier cabins and your inside GTY turns out to be a higher end cabin?

    Just wonderin'.

    Thanks.

  3. First RC cruise is in Jan on Freedom.... enjoy poker, but on other cruises the rake was not only high - it was obscene. I think on NCL the rake for the $100 tourney was 50%! - and the structure was terrible. Just a bingo game. Was actually funny watching all the people that thought they "knew" poker sign up to play. Any real player wouldn't go near it at that rake.

On NCL the 1/2 cash game had a rake of 10% to $25/hand. Min $2 even if no flop. If everyone folded to the blinds, they couldn't chop, as the house would still take their $2. Wouldn't even lower the rake if there were 5 or fewer players.

On Carnival Miracle last year it was completely electronic. No dealer. Can't remember the max rake. But it played more like an online play money table. Was quite common for 4-5 people to see the river each hand. BINGO!

Best comment on this thread was this one by babygirl08:

Just remember in poker your decision is right or wrong at the time you make it, not after you see how it turns out.

    anyhow....

any idea what the juice/structure is on Freedom for the tourney and cash games?

  4. The watch selection on Freedom is good. And St. Thomas is a great place to shop. The prices may not be any cheaper than finding them at a discount store at home (do they have Sams or Costco in Canada?), but the selection is much better and . . . most importantly . . . a watch purchased on a cruise is MORE SPECIAL. Don't know why, it just is!

Always hit them with a price of 75% of what they are asking and then let the fun begin. Even on the ship. You can usually save (as mentioned earlier in the thread) at least 10%.

Random note: my favorite cruise watch is a Tag.

We do have Costco. It isn't open all the time because the frigid cold keeps people home in their igloos and we can't shop very often.

  5. I know this is an old thread, so I am wondering if anything has changed in the last year?

I am looking for a ladies watch, Seiko or Citizen (or better), sapphire crystal (virtually impossible to scratch). We are going on FOS in January and will be stopping in St Thomas. From what I read that is a good place to buy watches. not exactly sure why.

Last few cruises we went on the watches seemed to be good prices but when we went home and checked around they seemed to be comparable to what was available online.

We don't have to worry about US Customs... we are Canadian, so we have to declare it to Customs when we fly home.

  6. RC, Freedom

Flight booked, now must book our cabin.

We aren't proud cruisers. We have had balcony's and insides in the past, and really, while nice, the balcony wasn't worth the extra money.

There don't seem to be many insides available for booking. many of the inside categories only have Guarantee left.

What is everyone's experience when this happens? will we get something in the most undesirable area of the ship? Is it worth paying an additional few hundred dollars pp to make sure we get something reasonable?

    Any info is great.

Hoping to book today or tomorrow.

  7. We sailed on the Star in March. I purchased a drink package, and received a cup with the NCL logo on it to carry around the trip to be refilled each time I want a drink.

Anyone know if it is the same cup on each ship or do they change it up at all? (change colouring/ logo/ etc).

    Thanks
