  1. I agree with all the replies.  Definitely bargain at any store or stand.  Once in Playa Del Carmen,  I bought a silver bracelet, I paid $25 after bargaining. I proceeded to another jewelry store only to find my new bracelet wrapped in plastic sitting in a basket with a bunch more for only $10.  It suddenly looked real cheap. Now I know it was not real silver, but it was a nice design so I bought it. Needless to say,  I marched back to the original store and demanded my money back.

We are booked on the Sunshine this winter.   I choose it for 2 reasons, the itinerary and the waterworks.  It's an 8 day cruise.

My husband is NOT a cruise guy.  He really dislikes crowds as well.  We were on the Breeze 2  years ago and after researching, didn't realize how nice it was that the boat was not congested.   In fact, it appears the Sunshine could be just the opposite.  I am pretty worried at this point and contemplating changing or even canceling, but would like some input first.

What we liked on the Breeze....there was not long lines for food.  We could find seating by the waterworks.  The only area I recall being congested was the shops after dinner.  Muster was smooth and inside.  Everything just felt well organized and not a cluster****.    The crowds were never annoying or stressful.  This will all affect my husbands enjoyment, perhaps more then it would others.

Any other ship recs based off my criteria.  Looking for waterslides for my teens and an itinerary outside of the standard Jamaica, Bahamas, Cozumel, Cayman Islands.

I have sailed the Sunshine twice and the only area that gets tight is in Lido deck going from guys burgers to the buffet area on both sides of the ship.  The Lido pool area is always packed on any ship.  Other than that I found it to be easy to navigate and not too crowded. The Havana Bar in the back of Lido is nice and we could usually get a table there.  I sailed once on October and once during Christmas. We enjoyed the water slides and the ropes course and we are in our 50’s.

My last sailing was on the Horizon. I could not believe how many areas there were to escape the crowds if you wanted.

I hope you and your family have a great cruise.  Come back and let us know which ship you chose and whether you all had a great time.

  3. My DH loves Guinness and if he can’t get it the “Sea Cow” comes close. Unfortunately, last Cruise the Sea Cow was out of date and couldn’t be served so he couldn’t get that either.

  4. I returned from an Elite Cruise on the Horizon on August 8. We were picked up at the airport by black car service and brought to the port. This worked out very well for us. Returned to the airport after debarkation.

You will receive plenty of daily gifts in your room compliments of the Casino. 2a0dd73ff50c3b1e3dc927c69a2b25c3.jpgf2e33dffda8f925a4ad07e9031b95e05.jpg7dfffd3fca54e83c98217cfd97c4bc6e.jpg30b2f5679d5c43f50da44d6991a7ac42.jpg we also received large and small water bottles. I won’t ruin the surprise for the larger gift.

Not shown is a plate of cookies and a box of candy from Sugar on Top. We gave the candy to our room steward.

There were lots of drawings each day. You must be present to win!! 52bf2376d1432e4b690b9dada90b69a9.jpg

We were treated to a steakhouse dinner with part of the elite group and an excursion to an AI on Amber Cove.

We received free drinks anywhere anytime on the ship. The bar system should know your drinks are free of charge. If you get charged simply go to guest services and remind them you are on the Elite Cruise. We had trouble in the MDR the first evening, but it all worked out. Some miscommunication between casino and MDR.

    Also received basic internet package.

We only paid the taxes and port fees for this cruise, but I can tell you we did pay for the trip and more. This was the tightest casino we have encountered at sea. Our fault.....we know we have the bug. After all, that’s how we got the invite.

It seemed the same individuals won hand pays and also won more than one giveaway with the Elite drawing held daily. Those same individuals also were in the running for the free cruise from the Elite slot tournament. Now it may just be that they had the Golden Horseshoe stuck you know where!!!! I do know others shared with my observations.

We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise don’t me me wrong. If we get another offer we will take it.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions about the Elite Cruise.

  5. We were on the Horizon last week and received two beach duffel bags. We asked the room Stewart if we could exchange one. I wanted the blanket and they actually had one left. Just ask at guest services or your room steward to exchange for something else.

  6. On the ship it may seem expensive but ....

1 I think I'm right in assuming that the cruise line does all the prep and cleanup.

    2. If you were throwing a big party for your parents' 60th at home the bottom line would probably far surpass the cost on the ship.

    3. Having the vow renewal on a ship is unique and will give them the joy of stories to tell for years

    just some thoughts ...:)

Summersigh you are right. I am typically the one doing all the planning, cooking, setting up and breaking down. Thanks for putting that into perspective for me.

  7. Thanks for not taking my sense of humor the wrong way :D. Something tells me your Dad and I would get along just fine :').

They are blessed to have such a wonderful family member. Enjoy !

I followed you on cc for some time. You and my Dad would definitely get long. I am the one that they say “ the leaf don’t fall far from the tree” amongst my three sisters when it’s comes to my Dad. Tends to get me in trouble once in a while.

  9. Expensive and limited ! Save your money , their already hitched ;p :D

I know... but see Mom never got to wear a wedding dress or carry flowers for that matter. Dad, he will probably will reiterate what you said, with a few choice words. But he don’t have a choice lol. Mom is not going to wear a wedding dress, we are getting her a more of a resort wear white dress so she can at least get the feel of that special white dress on her wedding day.

  10. Joepeka, thank you. We only have 8 people including the my parents that’s what makes the price hard to swallow. We will cherish the moment though. My parents were married in front of the justice of the peace in Germany 60 years ago, so we are trying to make it special.

  11. Planning a vow renewal for my parents 60 th anniversary on the Paradise in December. Has anyone used this service on Carnival? If so, is there anything you wish you had done differently? Was it worth the money? Any tips or suggestions?

    Thank you in advance.
