I’ve been monitoring prices on a couple of NCL cruises for Sep/Oct next year out of Copenhagen and Barcelona.
Yesterday I receive an email extending their freestyle offer from one item to two items (you get to choose from 4 promotions, beverage, internet, excursions or dining). Going on line I see that the price for each cruise has gone up by several hundred dollars coinciding with the offer.
Seeing as they use the words `free offer’ this is surely dishonest and would be illegal in retail.
Not just NCL it seems to be the norm, though often the wording is `promotion’ rather than `free’ which it certainly is not.

We've booked VF forward with steel balustrade. They look bigger on the model, and we expect them to be bigger, but really no-one knows yet.

Bad news compounding the falling Aussie Dollar:(
-
Thanks Dillpickle that confirms it, they use the current exchange rate which in your case was 67-68c.
-
I understand that Princess set their exchange rate for the "season". This time we win, but often it is the other way around.
I do not know if HAL works the same way or if you will simply be charged at today's exchange rate. If no-one can tell you definitely, maybe you could buy (say) $100 worth of OBC and see what the charge is in AUD. If it is really good, you can buy more pretty quickly.
Yes, looks like I'll have to just buy some as you suggest. Not today though dollar going up.:)

Well, 91c is amazing, and on another thread cruisers are reporting 76c from other cruise lines. When I go on the HAL site, to buy $100US is billed as $100US, so I imagine if I click buy I will be charged at todays exchange rate. Is HAL different in this respect or am I missing something?

With the falling dollar, I'm contemplating buying on board credit for my September 2016 Mediterranean cruise to cover gratuities. Does anybody know the current AUD/USD exchange rate offered by HAL, or will I be charged in US dollars, and be subject to my banks rate at the time?

Does anyone know the AUD exchange rate currently offered by HAL?

I forgot to mention, have a look at the link below, lots of good information.
Thanks for the link. A mine of free information.

Thanks for that Fire Eater. I'll be sure to check it out. We'll be staying near Portland pre-cruise so we'll have plenty of time.
-
I notice that having gone up $800 each for Ex4, its now gone up another $750each. New price (incl. Ex4) for balcony is $7498. . Thank goodness we booked a couple of weeks ago, as it definitely seems expensive now. It must be selling well.

I would see if HAL will allow it first. The flights from Amsterdam to the UK are relatively cheap but you would lose two or so days getting back. I wouldn't expect much of a refund if they allow it. Good luck.:D
Already have permit from HAL. No reduction in fare.
We'd need a couple of nights in a hotel to see Amsterdam, so we'd perhaps be up for $1000.

We're booked on the Koningsdam for 24 day Mediterranean Cruise. The cruise departs from Amsterdam but we have the option to embark in Portland UK.
It will mean missing Amsterdam and one full day at sea (2 nights on board), but as we will be staying near Portland at the time it's really convenient.
So, weighing up the convenience and cost saving of Portland, vs. missing some of our precious cruise. What do you think?

The old 'put the prices up just before a sale' trick.
Isn't there something illegal about that?

Cruise pricing really is a mystery to me. The day after I book the price has gone up $600pp. Pricing can't be sensitive to one booking can it? Glad to be locked in, and must stop monitoring price.
-
We've booked! Perhaps a bit pricey, but the timing and itinerary fit in well with our visiting family in the UK. Got a surprise $200 obc.

We stayed at Bondi Junction. Our hotel/apartment was built over the rail / bus station with easy access to the city and Bondi Beach. Highly recommended.
Once we parked our car in the hotel car park we left it there for the duration of our stay. Driving was a nightmare!!

I'd be saving the Gold Coast money and trying for your favourite option on Radiance.
Don't forget to factor in cost of on board drinks, and excursions.
-
Thank you all for your comments.
I'm feeling reassured that the price is reasonable and unlikely to reduce in the next few months.
Yes, it's a great itinerary, particularly as I think we can board at the first port of call (Portland UK), which is near where we will be staying in the UK at the time, saving us a flight and hotel in Amsterdam.
Just comparing it with a couple of NCL options, but think we will go with this one.
Any thoughts on HAL v NCL experience.

Price is per person twin share so around $250 per day

Itinerary is port intensive, covering West and East Med as far as Istanbul then back to Rome.
-
We are thinking of booking the new HAL Koningsdam 24 night cruise from Amsterdam to Rome, leaving 18/9/16.
Just wondering if people think its expensive at $5949pp for the cheapest balcony?
We are thinking of booking now but could delay until next February. Is the price likely to go up or down between now and then. There has been no movement in the price at all to date.

Have you considered HAL's new Koningsdam?
We are looking at a 24 night cruise in September 2016 out of Amsterdam or Rome.
As a cheaper shorter alternative we are considering Norwegian Spirit 12 nights out of Barcelona.
We've cruised Norwegian before and enjoyed the casual atmosphere and dining, and have heard HAL might be a bit more formal.
Have seen no competitive pricing for either so will probably book direct once we decide.

to-Dee, Had the same problem with my RCI cruise. Ended up cancelling (couldn't let the sleeping dog lie!), and have found alternate cruise with HAL that suits us better. Not till Sep 2016 so agonising now when to book.
If you can switch dates or cruise line I'd definitely do that.

Not the same thing. When I exchange currency I'm not being told I'm getting something for free. The ad says I'm getting something free whereas the price has gone up overnight to more than cover the `free' offer.
