  1. I dont see how you can say its dishonest...

Thats just the way it is. Prices move.

We all know how our dollar moves to the US dollar

Try tracking the Euro to the Aussie dollar.

I think you will find that anything you see that is free has been included in the price somewhere , or at some stage .

Not the same thing. When I exchange currency I'm not being told I'm getting something for free. The ad says I'm getting something free whereas the price has gone up overnight to more than cover the `free' offer.

  2. I’ve been monitoring prices on a couple of NCL cruises for Sep/Oct next year out of Copenhagen and Barcelona.

Yesterday I receive an email extending their freestyle offer from one item to two items (you get to choose from 4 promotions, beverage, internet, excursions or dining). Going on line I see that the price for each cruise has gone up by several hundred dollars coinciding with the offer.

Seeing as they use the words `free offer’ this is surely dishonest and would be illegal in retail.

Not just NCL it seems to be the norm, though often the wording is `promotion’ rather than `free’ which it certainly is not.

  3. I understand that Princess set their exchange rate for the "season". This time we win, but often it is the other way around.

I do not know if HAL works the same way or if you will simply be charged at today's exchange rate. If no-one can tell you definitely, maybe you could buy (say) $100 worth of OBC and see what the charge is in AUD. If it is really good, you can buy more pretty quickly.

Yes, looks like I'll have to just buy some as you suggest. Not today though dollar going up.:)

  4. With the falling dollar, I'm contemplating buying on board credit for my September 2016 Mediterranean cruise to cover gratuities. Does anybody know the current AUD/USD exchange rate offered by HAL, or will I be charged in US dollars, and be subject to my banks rate at the time?

  5. I would see if HAL will allow it first. The flights from Amsterdam to the UK are relatively cheap but you would lose two or so days getting back. I wouldn't expect much of a refund if they allow it. Good luck.:D

Already have permit from HAL. No reduction in fare.

We'd need a couple of nights in a hotel to see Amsterdam, so we'd perhaps be up for $1000.

  6. We're booked on the Koningsdam for 24 day Mediterranean Cruise. The cruise departs from Amsterdam but we have the option to embark in Portland UK.

It will mean missing Amsterdam and one full day at sea (2 nights on board), but as we will be staying near Portland at the time it's really convenient.

So, weighing up the convenience and cost saving of Portland, vs. missing some of our precious cruise. What do you think?

  7. Thank you all for your comments.

I'm feeling reassured that the price is reasonable and unlikely to reduce in the next few months.

Yes, it's a great itinerary, particularly as I think we can board at the first port of call (Portland UK), which is near where we will be staying in the UK at the time, saving us a flight and hotel in Amsterdam.

Just comparing it with a couple of NCL options, but think we will go with this one.

Any thoughts on HAL v NCL experience.

  8. We are thinking of booking the new HAL Koningsdam 24 night cruise from Amsterdam to Rome, leaving 18/9/16.

Just wondering if people think its expensive at $5949pp for the cheapest balcony?

We are thinking of booking now but could delay until next February. Is the price likely to go up or down between now and then. There has been no movement in the price at all to date.

  9. Have you considered HAL's new Koningsdam?

We are looking at a 24 night cruise in September 2016 out of Amsterdam or Rome.

As a cheaper shorter alternative we are considering Norwegian Spirit 12 nights out of Barcelona.

We've cruised Norwegian before and enjoyed the casual atmosphere and dining, and have heard HAL might be a bit more formal.

Have seen no competitive pricing for either so will probably book direct once we decide.
