  1. "Success is the best revenge" :D

Tee hee . . . tis so true. A very good friend told me as I was going through my divorce . . . (when I told her I was too old to go to law school) she said, "do you want to be a bitter divorcee or an attorney?" Hum? You are so very right . . . "success is the best revenge" . . . and as he told me that he had made the biggest mistake of his life . . . I smiled sweetly . . . and said, "yes, you did . . . get over it." :D Anyone going with me on my April 1st Liberty cruise? :p

  2. Hi ya all . . . what a fantastic board/thread. I'm a divorced fifty-eight year-old attorney who loves to travel. Think it came about after having spent twenty-years as a flight attendant. Got my law degree at age fifty-two (it's amazing what a divorce does) . . . :p

After three cruises with my former spouse . . . I was hooked. After the divorce in 1995, thought I'd never be able to take a cruise again. I even begged my now twenty-eight year old son to go with me (we'd traveled a lot together - all over Europe and fly fishing trips, etc. locally). Unfortunately, as a Coast Guard helicopter pilot stationed in Miami . . . he had no interest in taking another cruise (last one he took was with his parents to Alaska years ago) . . . especially to the Caribbean. About four years ago, he said . . . "Mom, just go . . . you don't need anyone to go with you . . . you make friends faster than anyone I know." He was right . . . booked a Celebrity cruise in 2003 and I had a ball! So much so, I went on another one last May. I'm now looking forward to my third solo cruise (on Carnival's new Liberty) in April. :)

  3. Wow! I love this site . . . :p As someone who turned 58 in January, it's so nice to know that I am not the only "over 55" cruiser that loves to cruise solo (after many years of cruising with my former husband). I was a flight attendant for over twenty year and got my law degree at age 52. I couldn't retire even if I wanted to (I don't) . . . I mean someone has to pay for my cruises. Tee Hee!

  4. Lois, wish I could send a bottle of my peach Probel through this computer. :D Just got back from the grocery store and bought three six packs. Keep looking for the individual bottles. Fizzy peach drink? Yuk!

Ankles and feet are 100% back to normal and I even was able to wear a pair of my strap sandals today . . . haven't worn them since the day before I left on my cruise. Sure hope ye ole ankles and feet don't swell on my next cruise (this time next year). Think I'll take the pills the doctor gave me on Wednesday on that cruise. They sure did work and it only took a couple of days . . . I think I took three pills . . . one on Wednesday, Thursday and yesterday. Didn't even take one today. Yippee Skippee! :D

  5. Opps . . . almost forgot . . . wanted to say thank you to everyone for your concern about my poor feet and ankles. I'll keep you posted on how goes the battle of deflation. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy (not that I have any :D ). Aside from looking horrible . . . it really is uncomfortable . . . feels like your skin is stretched to the limit. I have a two-day trial starting tomorrow and I'll have to be on my feet a lot. Wonder if the jury would notice my wearing bedroom slippers?

  6. Lois, you "turkey" . . . you made me run upstairs to get a bottle of Propel to answer your questions! Tee Hee!!! First, yes . . . any grocery store sells it in the aisle were bottled water is sold (I pick up two or three six-packs when I do my grocery shopping on Saturdays). I've also found Propel in Target, Cosco, WalMart and just about anywhere else they sell bottled water. Okay, it says there are 2 servings in each 16.9 ounce bottle. There are 10 calories per serving. Total fat - 0. Sodium - 35mg or 1% of daily value. Carbohydrate - 3g or 1% pf daily value. Sugars - 2g. Protein - 0g. Vitamin C - 10%. Vitamin E - 10%. Niacin 25%. Vitamin B6 - 25%. Vitamin B12 - 25%. Pantothenic Acid - 25%. This is for lemon Propel, but it's probably the same for all the other "flavors."

All I know is that it has been a lot easier for me to drink water since discovering Propel about six months ago. Just try it . . . you don't have to buy a six-pack . . . you can buy an individual bottle (larger than those that come in the six-pack) for like 99 cents. Try the peach . . . it really is yummy. :p

  8. Lois, I hate water too. Have you ever tried Propel Fitness Water? It comes in flavors like lemon, berry and peach. While drinking, you don't taste anything but for whatever reason . . . I can drink that stuff by the gallon (peach is my favorite). If you haven't tried it . . . do. I've got everyone at the office hooked on the stuff! :p

  9. Just got home from my doctor's visit and the diagnosis was . . . "Wow Tammy, you really had a good time on that cruise, didn't you? You look like you swallowed a ballon." Thanks Doc . . . I really needed that! Have to first say that my doctor and I are on a first name basis (I helped her with her divorce several years ago and aside from her being a fantastic doctor . . . she's also a friend). She said that salt hidden in the water and food onboard was the reason for my swollen feet and ankles. So why have I never had this problem on any of my cruises before? She didn't have a clue. But, she said I was healthy as a horse and perscribed some pills to take for a week . . . Maxide (Triamterene/hctz tabs 37.5 MG/25 MG). She said I would be going potty a lot but that the swelling will go down within the week. She also told me to drink lots of bottled water, eat more fruits and vegetables, drink less cola, keep my feet elevated and to buy some support knee highs. When I asked her what kind of support knee highs, she told me to just go to one of our favorite stores (Norstroms and Saks) and ask the lady in the hose department. I wear Leggs Sheer Energy knee highs and she said they weren't good enough. Thanks Pam . . . just what I don't want to do after a cruise . . . spend money . . . especially on ugly knee highs! :(

  10. I was having this problem and we looked into the amount of salt that remains in the ships water after it is desalinated....and it is quite high....I had been drinking large quantities of ships water thinking it would keep me from getting swollen feet and ankles...wrong...so now all I drink is bottled water...remember the ice and the iced tea is also made from the ships desalinated water as well. I have to take a diuretic every other day when I cruise just to eliminate the problem if I have drinks with ice or drink the iced tea...Sissy

Oh my goodness . . . I'll bet that's it! I drank sooooo much iced tea on my cruise. On my other cruises, I always got the soda card and drank diet cola. This time, I thought I'd forgo that and drink lots of water. I really don't like water (with the exception of Propel) . . . soooooo, I just about OD'd on iced tea.

I wonder how long it will take for the swelling to go down. I got off the ship on Saturday and my feet and ankles are still so darn swollen. Someone mentioned their swollen feet and/or ankles being so swollen that they were shiny. Mine are too! It's so sad . . . :(

  11. It is usually do to the altitude change. Flying at 35,000 feet then sailing at sea level wrecks havoc on your body.

Hi Blue . . . I was a flight attendant for over twenty-one years and took several cruises during that time . . . never had this problem. I hate to admit it but I think . . . could it be . . . oh no! I think it has to have something to do with being in my fifties as opposed to being in my twenties and thirties (and even forties). Does anyone have a pin? I'd like to just try to deflate these balloons called ankles and feet! Tee hee!!!!! :D

  12. Hi there:) first, how was the cruise? Did you have a good time?

Next, when I sailed in March the same thing happened to me:eek: but I don't think it was as bad as yours......but my ankles did swell up. I have been told by a few people it might be due to the amount of salt in the food. Actually on the 2nd formal night I had to change shoes because the ankle strap was too tight.

Now, the swelling went away within 2 days after I got home so I didn't go to the Dr.

Next time I am going to watch the salt intake more than I usually do!

Hi Lois . . . I had a fantastic time! But then how could anyone have anything but when on a cruise? :p

I did stop by the infirmary when getting back on board in Cozumel (our first stop when it was just my ankles). Walked by there as I was boarding and the nurse said it was very common and gave me a sheet of paper that in short just said to avoid foods high in salt.

I too had to give up wearing a really cute pair of strappy sandals because the straps were so tight that they left marks on my feet.

I still look like I'm suffering from elephantitis! :(

  13. I know this really isn't a fashion question but thought maybe ya all could help. I just returned from my seven day Western Caribbean cruise on Carnival's Triumph. On the morning after we left Miami, I awoke to extremely swollen ankles . . . I mean, my legs looked like telephone polls . . . I had no ankles! This was my sixth cruise and my ankles never swelled before. The next morning . . . I awoke to not only swollen ankles but feet that looked like balloons . . . picture vinyl gloves that someone blew up. Not only extremely unattractive but my skin was so tight . . . it was actually uncomfortable (still is). Has anything like this ever happened to any of ya all? If so . . . why and what did you do to get the swelling to go away? I've been drinking lots of fluid and staying away from anything salty that would cause one to retain fluid. I've also been trying to keep my feel elevated. I'm really wondering if I should go to the doctor tomorrow?

  14. Carnival Glory rocked and rolled during our entire cruise, 2/05-12. We all swayed with it and were fine. Unfortunatly, I am still swaying! I've been feeling light headed and slightly dizzy for the last 6 days! The doctor suggested I take a cold decongestant or dramamine for a week and then give her a call if I still feel this way. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Can my equillibrium still be out of whack?

It happens to a lot of us. Shortly after I return home from a cruise, I get up in the morning and feel like I'm still on the ship . . . I have to hold on to my dresser to make it to the bathroom. Usually only lasts about a week or less and . . . as strange as it feels . . . I sort of like it. Makes me feel as if I'm still on the ship. Funny, but it doesn't occur until I get home . . . walking off the ship, I feel fine. Guess it's "delayed reaction." Tee Hee . . . .
