What week? We recently changed our Memorial Day week from the breakaway to the Gem, because the Americas Cup will be at the dockyard in May/June, and will make the island very crowded. So sad, really want to see Bermuda!

Thanks for the heads up. I just looked online and it looks like the Americas Cup qualifiers start on the 26th of May. I wonder how that will affect us, as we will be there the 24th through the 26th... :confused:

We just booked the breakaway from Manhattan to bermuda for may of 2017. This is our first time on Norwegian and I'm really excited. So I'd like to take advantage of everyone's expertise and knowledge if I may. I have a few questions... We are in bermuda for 3 days, does that mean the ship stays in port for those nights, or does it go out to sea each night so the shops and casino can be open? Also, is the adventure course on board included with the cruise fare or is that extra? What activities on board are an extra cost? I would assume bingo is of course, but what else? Thanks!

For what its worth, Hubby and I are strongly considering HAL because they are the only cruise line that will allow us to smoke on our balcony. For how long.... who knows?

Ignore the people that will tell you're a terrible parent for not putting a tux on your 7 year old even on casual nights.

On any night, including formal nights, you will see everything from shorts and t-shirts to full suits.

It is your vacation that you paid for. If what you and your family is wearing bothers anyone else.... that's their problem, not yours.

The chocolate breakfast on the Explorer was on a port day, it was day 5 f I remember correctly. Here's a pic of the menu. I agree, the milkshakes were very watery, basically just blended chocolate milk, But the kids sure got a kick out of it.

Honestly, who cares what other people are doing at another table? That goes for what people are wearing, eating or tipping. Its no one else's business. If it doesn't affect me, I don't care. :confused:

My brother and sister in law cruised with us last March out of Jersey. They have 5 kids between them, its a "yours, mine & ours" situation with the kids. 3 are hers alone, 1 is his alone and together they have 1. The kids also have different last names and mom's is hyphenated.

They had all the paperwork they could possible need: birth certificates, divorce papers, custody agreements, marriage licenses etc. The only thing they didn't have is a letter from her ex, because he is simply not in their life in any way. She has no way to contact him to get such a letter.

At the port the agent barely glanced at the birth certificates of the kids and she certainly didn't say anything about the man's name listed on the kids was not present.

Maybe we got incredibly lucky, they easily could have been turned away. Better to have anything you might possibly need then watch the ship leave without you

Hubby and I decided to go for a JS because I wanted more room when we did our 10 day cruise. I wanted a bigger closet and the bathtub was a really nice treat.

We got priority check-in at the pier and a nice little waiting area, and there were bathrobes in our cabin. Other than that, I don't know of any perks. If there were any, we didn't take advantage. Honestly, that walk-in closet was awesome, there was room for everything and it was big enough to get changed in. :D

Great breakfast and lunch in the dining room. We ended up only going to the windjammer the first day for breakfast because we tried the MDR and loved it. The chocolate breakfast was a nice surprise and the kids loved it.

The buffet does a mid-afternoon snack type thing that the kids loved: nachos, sandwiches etc.

Go down to deck 4 and pull a few chairs right up to the railing.... I swear its the most peaceful spot on the whole ship.

The peek-a-boo bridge was really cool to see.

On the pool deck look for the bartenders walking around selling mango coladas... they are VERY heavy handed with the rum :D

The 2 best spots I found for wifi were Dizzy's and the Café Promenade.

We were on Explorer just over a year ago There is some wear and tear that you would expect on a ship that takes a beating from the north Atlantic ocean year around. You will see small rust spots on the balcony if you look hard enough, or maybe a worn spot in the carpeting....

But that being said, I think she is an amazing ship. Her crew seems to take so much pride in working there. Everyone was always cleaning, polishing, painting etc. And no, it wasn't intrusive at all. They are just always doing general upkeep. Painting the hull on port days, scrubbing the decks, polishing banisters... stuff I saw every day.

I wouldn't hesitate to go back on the Explorer.

There is no outbreak of Malaria on Labadee. Get your facts straight. The blood donation rule has been around since 1980, it is not new. The thread was just talking about not being able to donate for a year after visiting certain countries. The same rule applies to many European countries also. If you are worried about contracting a disease do not go on a vacation that visits different countries. Hepatitis A is a foodbourne virus and it is common in the US also.

Get YOUR facts straight.... The CDC does recommend preventative Malaria treatment before visiting Haiti for most traveler. Last time I checked, that's where Labadee is. But I understand that you're probably smarter than a few CDC docs, right? :rolleyes:

I understand the OP's concern, due to having a compromised immune system from a kidney transplant. I'm guessing that visiting a port for only a day means you're at very little risk.... that's probably why the cruise lines don't require it.

I would double check with your Nephrologist, or at the very least, your primary care physician.

Taking my DD on her first cruise. She gets light headed/ dizzy when traveling in a car. Her stomach never gets sick. Should I bring sea sick medication?

If so, what kind?

Last March we had a very rough trip out of New Jersey. Almost everyone got seasick on the second day. People were using the meclizine that you can get for free down at the infirmary. I don't know if its always free, or if it was just because it was so rough.

After the storm, it stayed pretty rough almost the whole trip. My sister in law and nieces do get carsick on long rides but they were fine except for the first day.

I have heard a lot of people swear by the bracelets or the patches. Have her try one of these options while driving and if they help.... stock up for the cruise.

On the Explorer last March they told me at customer service that it could only be done for port days, as there is fewer things on the schedule than on sea days.

I don't remember seeing any on embarkation day... :confused:

My apologies for making you work so hard to respond to a post. The first post on the search function for "disney cruise with no kids" shows a post from Feb of 2013 that says "Don't cruise on DCL without kids." The next one is from November of 2012.... I was hoping for some opinions.

Ok, a little about us.... some family and I (11 extended family members total) took a RCI cruise together last March and we had an amazing time. Half the family wants to go to Disney World next and the other half wants to take another cruise.

I figure a Disney cruise is the perfect compromise, right? WRONG! Hubby and I have no kids, and he thinks it would be weird to take a disney cruise. He says its only for families, not 2 thirty-somethings without kiddies.

My sister in law says going on a disney cruise doesn't even begin to compare to going to the parks so she won't even consider it. She says it's only disney themed decorating, but I'm sure thats not true.

How do I get them to change their minds?? :D I need some convincing arguments, because I'm dying to try a Disney cruise.

I was on the Explorer in March, and it was a truly amazing cruise!! She's a great ship and an amazing crew.

We hit some rough weather leaving Bayonne, but it looks like you're heading out on a great day....

I personally would have no problem with being on the Explorer this week. I am sure that every thing is being double and triple checked and cleaned. Besides the fact that she has such a great crew, they can't risk having another outbreak.

Right now is probably the safest time to be on the ship :D

Does anyone know what type of table games the casino's have? Specifically the Explorer, but I would like to know if the tables differ from ship to ship. Also what are the min/max bets? Do they differ from ship to ship?

On the Explorer in March, I know there was Let it Ride and Caribbean Stud.... hubby played both. :D He just told me there was 3 card poker, Roulette, and Blackjack too.

He thinks it was $5 minimum, but doesn't remember the max...

I seem to recall the tables being about the same on the Liberty, but that was 5+ years ago.

One of the kids on our cruise last March lost theirs, they replaced it free of charge, no question asked

I highly doubt that a $12 charge is a criminal act. Wait and see if the charge gets posted, then deal with it. Good luck.

I had fraud on my card a few weeks ago (not Royal Caribbean). The fraud department at my bank said that almost always someone that has stolen your numbers will hit your card with a small charge to make sure it is still an active card and then when that one works, they rack up the big charges a few days later.

She didn't say she was "worried" about anything, simply asked whether the dining was table service or buffet (obviously both are available). I think you got side-tracked by the usual subsequent posts that started offering unsolicited advice instead of just answering the OP's question.

My first cruise was on the Liberty in 2008 and my second was Explorer this past March. Like others have said, there's no separate pizza place on the promenade. However, they do serve pizza in the cafe promenade, and it's pretty decent.

There's also no flowrider, but that didn't matter to hubby and I. I'm more of a chill on the balcony and lounge by the pool kind of girl anyways.

I liked that the Explorer was smaller, it was cozy. I also thought the crew was amazing!

On our 3/5/13 cruise on the Explorer I had a really hard time with the nasty storm we hit on day 2. I didn't get seasick, but I ended up in medical because of several really bad panic attacks. After they gave me some medication to calm me down, I could only just wander around aimlessly. After about 12 hours of this, my poor husband was starting to look a little green. I finally convinced him I would be ok and sent him to bed.

It was formal night, so smoking wasn't allowed in the casino, only in the night cub right next to it. I ended up sitting in there with my nook, trying to keep my mind off of the storm.

I ended up chatting with 2 women for a few hours. They were really so very nice to me. They kept me distracted by telling me about all the different cruises they've been on. I remember one of the ladies had been on just about every cruise available, she was so much fun to talk to.

Anyways, those two women have no idea how much they helped me. They distracted me for so long, entertained me, and generally they just really eased my anxiety. So if either or both of you women are here on CC, thank you so much!! You were awesome!!
