  1. If you need to get off asap, do self embark. You'll go first. And really that makes more sense so you won't have to go looking for luggage which you would need to do with fttf.

Ok, got it. I would not have to pay for FTTF if I am wanting to self-embark.

Just wanted to be sure I wasn't having to be behind everyone else who is paying for FTTF.

    thanks Susan

  2. You will have priority to disembark.

On another thread someone mentioned if you take your own luggage off you don't have to wait so don't bother paying $ 50 bucks to get off early.

Called Carnival about this question of FTTF and disembarking with own luggage and one confirmed it wouldn't be a factor buying FTTF for disembarking another wasn't so sure so that is why I was asking on here.

Anyone remembering about this on a recent cruise?

  3. Meals repeat in MDR. If you are on a ship with American Table, the Port of Call offering will change assuming that you visit different ports on the second cruise.

We recently did a 7 day on the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas and then jumped onto the Carnival Conquest for the next week. They dock right next to each other in Fort Lauderdale, so if was a 5 minute walk between ships.

Oh wow, so how soon could you get onto Conquest? What time did you have to be off of Allure?

Going on Conquest next month. It was a toss up between Allure. We had done Allure several years ago and liked it but just wanted to try something different.

  4. We are seasoned cruisers(did 5 with Carnival in the past) but haven't done a Carnival cruise in about 4 yrs. I just booked a cruise for next month on Conquest. Just came across this FTTF which I was not familiar with.

What I am concerned about is getting OFF the ship the day we disembark. We will be taking our own luggage off. Our last cruise with Celebrity, it took a bit to get off even when we took our own luggage.( but it moved fast) Our flight is at 11am in Fort Lauderdale which I know isn't real far from the port.

It is just my husband and I (no kids) we really aren't concerned about needing to get into our room right away, lines on tendering.

So I am asking does FTTF effect being first to get off?? Hope I am wording this correctly.

    Making dinner as I type.

Don't want to waste money but don't want to miss a flight.

Thanks for any help my way.

  5. We had to complain twice on the Conquest last week. It never got cool in our room at all! I complained on my survey. It's bad when you can't even put your covers on at night. The air was just like recirculation air blowing out of the vent. If it is like that in August on the Valor I will be at guest services complaining.

Just curious, what was your Conquest room number??? We sail with her/him end of May

  7. I just returned from Bermuda on Sat. Booked Colin Jennings a few weeks before our trip. He met us on Weds. the 15th at 9a.m. from our cruise ship in Kings Warf for a 5 hr. tour. He was just excellent and we could not of asked for more information about Bermuda. There were 6 of us in a comfortable van. He took us wherever we wanted and showed us all the highlights. St. George for the Dunking at noon was very interesting we saw all the beaches, the lighthouse and upscale hotels on the island. He explained the island in great detail....I would highly recommend him to all. We had to be back at the ship before 3:30 and he got us back with no trouble. An excellent guide especially for our first time in Bermuda....

Was wondering about tipping Colin? since he is private? if so, about how much. thanks

  8. When on board our last cruise in Jan the deal came to book another cruise with the all the extra's$$$ ( we don't drink but will get a smoothie or diet coke, here or there)

Since we were booking on about the last day of the cruise I too was thinking, "How am I going to spend this FREE Money" Ha. I am a bargain shopper and hate to waste money.

I had already priced some John Hardy bracelets (woven handmade silver) at different ports and back home.

Since I had just switched from wearing gold to silver, that was my gift of choice. We had to add a few bucks but it was worth it. Great quality too. I wear it everyday and I love it!

I am glad my husband suggested it since I would never had thought of looking at the jewelry on ship. I don't own a lot of jewerly but only buy quality pieces. This fit the bill for me.

Leave in 2 days to Bermuda. More on board credit. Hmmmmmm, more FREE money!

  9. I recommend a 2 week cruise as if you are going to fly to Europe, you might as well be there for 2 weeks.

While I know you weren't actually comparing the two types of cruises, this is just a tip to think about.

We also have done many ocean cruises.(18). Last Aug. took our first one week river cruise. Nuremburg to Budapest. We loved it. But we did a week of land touring in Germany before we hopped on the river boat.

Since we hadn't been to any of the stop on our river cruise we of course got off and walked or took tours.

One of our most enjoyable days was an afternoon sitting on our balcony/and top deck of boat and just relaxing the boat moved down the river. We passed by castles up on the hill sides and beautiful countrysides.

We leave for a 10 day ocean cruise this week. 2 Sail days before and 2 sail days after the 4 port days. My husband said in a way he wished they had sail days on the river cruise to just relax and soak up the scenery. ( yes, I know you can stay on the boat but for the $$)

Plus the boat is docked and not moving.

Enjoy your river cruise, it is wonderful.

  11. I've tried searching for this answer with no luck, but are there things to do at St Martin and St Thomas within walking distance? We are stretching our dollars to take our 4 kids on this cruise before the oldest leaves the nest and don't have a lot extra for excursions, so I'm trying to figure out what we can do while there. I'm happy just heading to a nice beach, but from what I'm reading, it will cost $10pp each way for even that. I hate to spend $120 plus tip just for a ride to the beach and back. My husband says we should just stay on the ship, but we've never been to either place before, so that doesn't sound fun. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I am going out on a limb here. We have cruised many times with our kids. We don't buy souvenirs(we bring back memories, not clutter) and we don't drink soooo we save $$ there.

Being the oldest sometimes is very difficult. What if one of you took the one leaving the nest Horseback riding with the horses on the beach? They even go swimming with you on their backs! Talk about cool. I took my daughter and neither of us ride horses. Felt safe the entire time. She still talks about it being the highlight of ALL trips. Lucky Stables I believe was the name. They pick you pick and drop you off.

My husband did something else with the other kids, for less $.You have other islands to do things as a family. Just something to think about. Going again in Jan 2015!

  12. ok, not 10 but 6.

lots of trips to french side for their marketplace and lunch, orient beach, had a 747 land on our heads, rented a car and got totally lost (FR side mostly) and the usual downtown marketplace stuff.

are we doomed to just chill at a beach?

    veterans, please - lmk.

Like you, we have been to St. Maarten many several times. Once I took my young daughter to do the horseback riding on the beach where the horses swim with you! My daughter still says it was THE BEST tour we have ever taking next to swimming with the dolphins in Cozumel. Neither one of us ride horses and felt safe the entire time. Look into it. I believe Lucky Stables was the name. Bus picked us up and returned us. We NEVER buy souvenirs just bring back memories and not the cluttered junk. :) Heading that way again in Jan 2015. Enjoy

  13. Actually, never have had an inside cabin, only ocean views. Then we did a 10 day cruise and since it was for our 25th wedding anniversary booked a balcony. I got sick and was quarantined to my room for 2 days. It ended up being a stress bug. Princess cruise line was wonderful. I could order anything I wanted, didn't have to be on the menu either. If I hadn't been able to see out for two days let me tell you, I probably would have killed someone!! Ever since then, it is a balcony for us. We love it and use it.

  14. OMG, not sure how I started reading some of your threads. I think I was reading about your current cruise on Soltice( love that ship) and then thought, I need to take trip with this guy!!

He hits all the places I like to visit.

I am in Indiana( not too far away)!!! I also did the trip around Italy last April. Was wondering if you got to go INSIDE the Cathedral"Famillia"? in Barcelona?? We were lucky enough to be able to do that since a Italian group had two extra tickets. Soooo beautiful.

I care-give for my 88 yr old dad and try plan my trip at wee hours of the night so I am half brain dead. So felt a little unprepared when were hit Barcelona.

Your pictures are amazing. Thanks for sharing.

  15. I have to say that we love Celebrity..........but HAL has a great itinerary in the Southern Caribbean........the ABC islands.

We've cruised quite a few lines and Celebrity has been our favourite BUT they don't offer the itinerary...........

We cruise, first & foremost, for the itinerary, and HAL offers us new ports of call.

We are in our 60's (young..........or I think so)......but we're easily pleased. Nice food, a few lounges with a variety of music (sometimes we fancy jazz, or other times a string quartet or a piano bar, and sometimes we want to put on our dancing shoes..60's, 70's or whatever)...whatever takes our fancy.....We're happy.

    Will we fit with HAL?

I could have written your post. My husband and I just got off Zuiderdam, did the Panama Canal 3 days ago. Same age as you and young at heart. We have done many Celebrity and Holland cruises. You will fit in just fine. B B King was on board with us!

Susan from Indiana where it is snowy and COLD. ( wish I was back in Aruba)

  16. Hi Eileen,

My husband and I were on Zuiderdam with you. Great ship, grand time. We were in Cabin 7099 and experience No A/C issues at anytime. Met many others on board and NO ONE was experiencing issues this cruise. ( yes I asked, I admit I was concerned. Hopefully all is fixed.)

Keep up the good review. I would add more but we have been plowing snow for days since we got home. Ugh Makes me wish we were on Zuidy now!

Susan from Indiana ( Zero degree's and SNOW)

  17. We have been on many cruises and luckily air conditioning has never been an issue.

In less than a week my hubby and I will be boarding the Zuiderdam. Our cabin 7099 is just a few cabins down from the group of reported non working AC. 7089, 7087

While in the past I have only tried to be aware and not focused on Negative reviews. I will say the NO working AC has my full attention this time.. I will let you know how it goes when we return.

I did mention this to my husband but it sure didn't seem to register that a non working air conditioner would be a problem. It could be that we got over 12 inches of snow yesterday and it is a minus 15 degrees today.

Keeping finger crossed for working AC

    Susan from Indiana

  18. Now there is some concrete evidence of an A/C problem area on Zuiderdam.

    Starboard Rotterdam Deck:

    gigianne- 7077

    wpmccoy- 7087

    wpmccoy's relatives- 7089

Hubby and I are in cabin 7099

Sure hope it is not an AREA thing with the AC. We board Z next Monday. Fly Sat to Ft Lauderdale. While it might be a minus 13 degrees here today in Indiana, I sure don't want to be sweating in my room either on vacation.

Susan keeping fingers crossed here in Indiana
