  1. Have been cruising for close to 30yrs now and have tried out many lines, now my choices pretty much are itinerary driven. I am looking at the Reflection Itinerary to Sicily/Greek Isles trip for 2015. I sailed the Eclipse before and loved the ship and the service. I looked up the Reflection and it looks gorgeous, inaugural voyage in 2012, Any opinions??? I mostly sail Princess now but they don't have this itinerary so am really interested. Just because a ship is new though doesn't make it better. The Royal Princess (newest launch) has gotten mixed reviews. Thanks as always to the great folks at CC. :)

  2. My family of 8 recently booked POA for next year as well. It looks to me as though the configurationof this ship is different from others. We opted for 2 regular balconies and 2 balconies with adjoining capability . The balconies aren't adjoining though, it is an adjoining door on the inside of the cabin. At least we will have 4 bathrooms this way. have fun.

  3. You cleared up lots of questions I have had for a long time. I am an avid Blackjack player many times comped in Vegas and AC and never played on a cruise ship. It seems only logical that the odds will be worse since its a captive audience and resembles shooting fish in a barrel. Not to say its not fun and if you enjoy it go ahead. The entire CAS system seems like a "black hole" to me with lots of variables and virtually impossible to compare offers unless you are familiar with players' action. Thanks for answering in such an easy way. :)

  4. I believe that since you and your SU have been cruising for >30 years I do believe that you are searching for a product that no longer exists on the "mainstream" lines. I think you would be better off exploring your options on Luxury lines since the mass market cruises have all changed their approach in hopes of attracting the masses. Let's face it 30 years ago it was a BIG deal if you could afford to cruise, not so today, many can afford to go.

The hand sanitizers are largely in my HO a Placebo effect. Have spent 4 decades in healthcare and can tell you that most "bugs" do not die off when using the handsanitizers. In fact most hospitals have gone back to lessening the dispensers posted around as not enough handwashing goes on then. Handwashing is the only way to assure clean hands, it is the scrubbing and rubbing back and forth that rids the bacteria/virus not just the soap/gel. Happy cruising. ;)

  5. :rolleyes:or am I too untrusting??

Just received a call from "Caribbean Cruise Line", representative said they were doing a promotion and I was "chosen" to receive a free cruise for me and a guest to the Bahamas. He went on to say that all I needed to do was pay the taxes and port taxes and then asked for my credit card ##.

Naturally, I started laughing , it turns out it is a 2 day cruise aboard a ship called the "Bahama Celebration" and it includes only an inside cabin. I wanted to check out the cruise line, etc (the cost would be $129 for 2 pax), I live in NY and would have to pay to pick up the ship in florida, but the entire thing made me think it was a scam. I told him I would call him back and he said no, that either I did it right then or I would lose it. So I told him I was willing to Lose it. He became flustered. I hung up. I went on-line and discovered that this is the usual price for this 2 day cruise, the ship is 30 years old. Was just wondering if anyone else has had this experience?

  6. I may have missed this post but thought I would mention it anyway. Carnival recently had a death by drowning of a 6 yo boy while in a pool with his 10 year old brother and other family members. The DJ saw the kid had drowned. All you need is a couple of inches of water to drown, it doesn't matter if they are packed in like sardines. :(

  7. Thank you so much for your enjoyable review. Congratulations on your recent nuptuals. I also went to Hawaii for my honeymoon in 1974 and your synopsis brought back many fond memories . We will be going back next August with 8 in my group. Have to admit won't be hiking like I used to but am still very excited to go again. Aloha and have many many great years together. :)

  8. I did this cruise on the Star Princess this past Feb/Mar. One of my favorite cruises. Hope your weather is as good as ours was. We made all of our scheduled stops (Falklands included). Clear sunny days the whole way, except for some overcast or rain in Puerto Madryn and Puerto Montt. There may also have been some rain in Punta Arenas, but some of us missed it because we were in Antarctica. Took the Princess Antarctic excursion and absolutely loved it. About 41 degrees in Antarctica when we were there. Antarctica was the only Princess excursion I took, but the private ones I took were very good.

    Puerto Madryn--Peninsula Valdes

Falklands--Patrick Watts to Volunteer Point. Interesting off-road trip, and lots of King and Gentoo penguins.

    Cape Horn--clear and sunny.

Ushuaia--Lake Country and Tierra del Fuego

Punta Arenas--Antarctica, highlight of the trip for me.

Puerto Montt--2/3 of our group left our meeting place early, and ended up starting the excursion early. Left 5 of us behind. Kinda sucked, but didn't ruin a great trip.

The glacier viewing (Amalia Glacier and Glacier Alley) was outstanding--nice weather.

Could you tell me a little more about the available Antartica excursion, I am taking this trip as well next Feb and am so excited there may be this excursion, I didn't know about it.

  9. I recently booked a SA cruise including the 5 day precruise to the Falls on Princess, we were so happy with the trip booking but then I starting reading the boards. Were we foolish not to do the falls on our own, we are staying in Cataractas Hotel on the Brazil side. Do you think this land part is worth booking with Princess??

  10. We prefer mid to aft as there is a lot lesss motion. When sailing Princess I always try to get a Balcony on the Caribe deck as they are larger and half covered. Port or Starboard has become less of an issue now as with the larger ships, if they back into port which is common, the Starboard side is actually on the Port then . So now it is not predictable, we used to prefer Starboard so while in Port our room was less visible to those walking around along side the ship, just my 2 cents
