  1. Thanks for the wonderful pictures!!!!

We went to the Belize Zoo in June. We hired a driver for $60 PP and that included a city tour also. It was a lovely excursion. The zoo is much more of an animal sanctuary/zoo hybrid and I would highly recommend a tour guide, as they provide a lot of information.

Here are some of the sights you may see:

  2. Thank you to everyone that attempted to answer my OP. My group prefers private tours, rather than the cattle herding that occurs with typical cruise excursions. I do a lot of research ahead of time (which is why I posted here) so that my group can have a safe trip. However, I do understand that some people are more comfortable with booking excursions directly with the cruise line. We like the freedom of having our tour catered to our specific needs. :D

Thanks again for the replies. :)

    Happy Sailing! xoxo

  3. Thanks for the information. I haven't found any other threads about the Belize Zoo.

We went to the zoo in November 2012.

We contracted with a private tour guide before the cruise. It was $55 each (including the zoo admission fee) and it was just the two of us.

We made the arrangements though Griffith Eusey (mailto:syesue_bz@yahoo.com) though another guide provided the service. It was not a short drive but was interesting and passed quickly as the driver/guide pointed out so much and told us so much about Belize during the drive to the zoo and back. He was also our guide at the zoo - he was very knowledgeable and informative.

Capt.Nicolas Sanchez took us to the zoo and gave us a personal guided tour of the zoo. As we left the port area in Belize City and on our return to the city from the zoo, he pointed out sites in the city, including the house where he was born on May 5, 1935 and the home he lives in today. The whole four plus hours we spent with him, he told us about Belize. There is nothing you can ask him about Belize that he cannot answer. When he meets you, he will ask you where you live and then tell you something about that place. He has an amazing memory and amazing stories to tell.

Contact Capt. Nicolas Sanchez via BLASTOURSBELIZE@hotmail.com

    This gentleman is amazing!

You might also check the Belize forum for tour guide suggestions and for more recent experiences. I expect you can arrange it at the tender dock as well if you don't want to book ahead of time.

  4. Anyone ever take a taxi directly to the zoo? How long was the ride? How much was the taxi fare?

Thanks in advance and Happy Cruising!

  5. NCL put a $300 hold on your credit card and when your account approaches that figure it increases the hold.

I don't know but I imagine that if you want to make a large purchase; diamonds; emerald; 5 single malts and so on then the sale would be held till they had increased the hold. ;)

    Mike

    Thanks!

I gifted this trip to my brother as bday gift. Maybe he will return the favor and gift me diamonds, emeralds, etc.:D

  6. Solo traveler just returned from the Getaway on Jan 3. When I checked my credit card online on Jan 3, it showed a $300.00 authorization/hold (not sure which or if they are the same thing). It was replaced with a $98 actual charge on Jan 4.

    Thank you!

  7. I was NOT asking for the definition of a credit card hold/authorization. I AM, however, asking the dollar amount that NCL holds.

This information is provided on Carnival's website...

The guest’s credit card or debit card will be swiped at embarkation with an initial hold placed on file as a deposit::

2 - 5 day cruise: $100 USD per credit card or debit card

6 days or longer: $200 USD per credit card or debit card

I have been unable to find similar information on NCL's website.

Thank you to those that are able to answer my actual question.

  8. Has anyone had the roti? I'm wondering if it is more trini or Jamaican style.

Are they made fresh to order?

The roti is wrapped... like a taquito or mini burrito. The filling has a little kick, but not too spicy. I think it was served with a pineapple or mango chutney/salsa.

I'm trying to remember.... but I probably was a few drinks in by the time the food came out. LOL. Sorry.

  9. What's Next: So, on the day of the Valor and Liberty swap, my mom happened to call me. I explained the situation in a small-talk way. She and I both have always wanted to do the new Liberty route, and she knew it.

So time went by as I waited for this cruise. It passed, and then it was my birthday, and then Christmas with my family. Want to know what her present was? :D

She booked it that nght while the prices were dirt cheap. They still are. She knew I'd want it's first cruise from SJU. That was seriously the best present anyone ever gave me. Flights and cruise, 4J on Deck 9 :D. She had to tell everyone on Glory not to mention it at all, as it was a present for me. So on March 29th, I'll be boardinf the Carnival Liberty on a cruise with 4 new ports! Gahhh!!!

Closing: So I just want to thank everyone who read this review, whether it was in segments, or the entire thing. I took a lot of time to write it, and I'm really glad things turned out okay. I will try to be more on top of my game next time with faster replies and better pictures. I will also take a journal to remmeber key details, as I feel I forgot many. I will also ask before the cruise what you all want me to look out for and take pictures of. But please, DON'T BE SHY! If you hated the review, LET ME KNOW, so I know what to fix for my next one. If you loved it, TELL ME WHY! I really value your opinions, as it was written for you guys ;)

I had such a fun time writing this review, and I want to thank everyone again. I hope I helped plan port days and allowed you the opportunity to cruise vicariously through my adventures. I really hope you enjoyed this read, be out for the next one!

Happy Cruising to You All! :D

Thanks so much! I thought the review was great! Looking forward to sailing on the Glory in Oct. I will be sailing the same ports, except w/ HMC. I actually did these ports last Sept on the Conquest. We booked the Glory because we wanted to return to HMC. :D:rolleyes:

  10. A few years ago, I waited to the last minute to print our documents and my printer wasn't working. I completed the online check-in, but didn't have luggage tags or boarding passes. The porter put tags on our luggage at the pier as soon as we got out of the car. Also, the check-in staff DID have the manifest and simply verified our names. There was NO delay in our boarding time. IDK, maybe we were just lucky.
