Hello everyone ! My husband and I have an upcoming Iceland cruise we are excited about. We are in a DV1 room and on the day our dining reservations opened up I signed in at 6am mountain time and all dining reservations were not available. Was trying to get at least one for his birthday. We also booked all our tours on the exact time they opened up for us and 1 of the tours we really wanted was already booked.
I called Viking right away on tour opening day to try to be put on waitlist, was told Viking doesn’t waitlist. I did manage to get on a waitlist with a private tour company, but with 2 Viking ships in port that day, I would be surprised if we get to go, it is a very small anchorage port with limited tour services.
I also called Viking the day I couldn’t get in for our 2 dinner reservations and she said we could try and get reservations on board but wouldn’t be at our preferred times. We have early tours every day and don’t like to dine after 9.
This is our first Viking cruise and have been on Azamara and Oceania in suites and veranda rooms and have always been able to book our dining reservations and tours when we needed.
I guess I’m a little confused why Viking advertises a guarantee dining reservation but we weren’t able to book anything at our early booking time? Do you need to get up at midnight to book them? I would have done that if it would have helped get what we needed.
I have looked at all the dining venues and World Cafe or The Restaurant will be fine to celebrate his birthday, paying extra to not get in is making me disappointed in Viking. Especially when they make you pay in full a year in advance.
