Pics from a few weeks ago. SV view, Pool Deck, Grand Plaza, Casino (smoke-free), Theatre, snacks offered at Café al Bacio (coffees not included), dining rooms staircase and entrance to each (all are wonderful, Cosmopolitan and Normandie were our favorites).

  2. My family sailed on the Dec. 17th sailing of Ascent and LOVED it! We sailed Apex in 2022. Also loved it! Some of the enhancements on Ascent include improvement with the bar experience (including a 360 degree Martini Bar and the World Class Bar), an improved dining experience (Le Voyage & the enclosing of the Rooftop Garden Grill) to name a few! It is a truly beautiful ship. We also thoroughly enjoyed the show "Bridges". I cannot wait to sail her again. We are also eyeing the next iteration, Xcel for 2025.

We've sailed on the POA twice and loved it both times. With every cruise and every ship, there are always things that are not perfect (not to minimize your issue, Pens fan - that was totally unacceptable). In 2016, our state room attendant was below average, but last year our SA was one of the best we've had, and we were very impressed with the majority of the crew. Finding seating in the buffet can be a real problem and the food was just average, but there was rarely a wait in the MDR or Cadillac Diner. The specialty restaurants are quite comparable to other NCL ships, in our opinion. The ship doesn't have a racetrack or laser tag court like some of the newer ships and it's a more laidback atmosphere onboard. Perhaps part of the POA's charm for me is that it's in Hawaii, which is truly paradise. With that said, our next trip to the Islands will be a week on Oahu, mainly because it's our favorite island and we feel we've done all we want to do on the other islands. The POA is a lovely ship and you should have a great time.

I’ve only sailed the ship once AND agree with your take!

Wow, that's great. Definitely calling Friday morning if we don't have it tomorrow.

Ironically I attempted to change my choice the next day and they had already begun processing the refunds. We had a December & March cruise booked. Cancelled the December & transferred the March to another sailing. Wasn’t thinking.  I paid 1/2 the price for the December cruise. Should’ve transferred that one! 🙃

So I ended up submitting a San Juan departure request  that leaves a day before.  Flights aren’t too bad and I know, hopefully, I can get reimbursed for any difference.

I am curious if VV is worth all this headache though. Don’t even know if a similar cabin will be available (we are just in a sea terrace). Any previous cruisers? Should we go for it?  Thanks

I’m frustrated too AND VV has a great product! I think you’ll be pleased once you sail them!

Time will tell. I don’t care either way. Probably not interested in sailing out of San Juan. Clearly things are fluid at this point. Hope everyone who wants 14 days gets 14 days.

I’m hoping for 8 as I can’t do a 14-day at this time. I had two cruises cancelled. The Mermaiden out of Miami and the 3/23 sailing from San Juan. Both on Brilliant. Hoping to keep my flight to San Juan & fly back home from Miami on the 31st. We’ll see!

The app doesn't work, however you can call Sailor Services (or your First Mate) and they can add them for you.

I was in the system and booked several shore things for the January 13th sailing.

After I did, they showed up in the app once.. then it went to not working again.

Thank you! I can now see the Shore Things in firstmates!

I'm on the San Juan Mermaiden and they have not yet opened up shore excursions. Our app doesn't even work yet.

Same for the Dec. 24th sailing I’m currently booked on! Also not available to book excursions for this sailing as an agent!

I'm in the US and am able to see and mock-book BL sailings Jan-Apr.

I still think those rumors in the 2024-2025 thread are true and the TA will be cancelled and the winter season will be replaced with VL- but for now at least I can still see every BL sailing available.

I know it’s just a rumor, but what would being replaced with VL look like? VL has sailings as well & the Dec 23/Dec 24th sailings don’t match in sail date or duration.

  10. The January sailings are still showing on the US site as well as the initial Memaiden Voyage (which I am booked on but losing hope)! The San Juan Mermaiden was missing on the site (at least on my end) earlier today but is back up now!

My point was that people need to understand that the ships are safe.  There are railings everywhere--good, high railings.  I agree that the fact that a young woman died is the most important issue, but those who have or are considering booking cruises need to know that Virgin and all other major cruise lines put safety first.

Yes. We’ve sailed many ships including both Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady. It is IMPOSSIBLE (for almost anyone) to “fall off” a balcony WITHOUT climbing or somehow being propelled over. I imagine someone REALLY tall (close to 7 feet) MIGHT be able to lean over and fall.

  12. When I made this post I had no idea what happened! I was a passenger mostly in the dark regarding the incident. Once aware, I clearly disengaged and did not attempt to speculate. I feel terrible for this family and completely empathize! I also have a child (young adult) this age. Yes! We heard many stories including stories about the person who was allegedly fallen upon. This family’s life is forever changed. I kindly ask all of those who wish to engage in this post to be kind and remember a young life was lost. Nothing else is as important!

No, the person is not okay. If you are on the ship you will get the update but in the interest of not having people speculate, I'm sharing what happened as per a good friend who is on her right now.

So sorry to hear! My heart goes out to you.

Has anyone gotten a refund on shore excursions for the 2nd person?

I just called and talked to NCL, and they asked their supervisor, and they told me that I would NOT receive a refund on the 2nd person's shore excursions.

Wondering if this is just new and I need to hang up, call again.

Why can't you just cancel and rebook the excursions?
