We are on the sailing and having a great time. I think the activities and schedule has been fine with the exception of the ice shows all being during the day. There’s plenty of sunshine and sun loungers for the daytime hours! Shows could be better but I expected such on an older ship.

I will say the food is absolutely horrific. The MDR is mediocre at best and the Windjammer is by far the worst I have seen. It is essentially like a combination of frozen meals and kids food (soggy pizza, pasta, little burgers, hotdogs, sorry salad bars, and the grilled poor cuts of chicken or beef). I’m really embarrassed that this is our friends first Royal Caribbean cruise. It’s worse than the food at a mediocre all inclusive or casual chain restaurant.

That said, the drinks are flowing, we have great ports and weather, and we have had excellent dinners at Chops and Giovannis multiple nights.

Great to hear a different perspective! 😊

2. Didn’t want it to seem as if I don’t recognize everyone’s situation isn’t the same. My situation has changed over the years. For some, a short 4 or 5 day cruise wouldn’t be worth it & doing a back-to-back or spending a few days in Miami might not be financially feasible. Everyone defines “worth it” differently.

There are different variables used to determine how they choose to spend their money and/or if they are able to spend the money. I am definitely picky about what I choose to spend my money on. I intentionally choose to spend a lot on travel/experiences & I recognize this is a blessing to be able to do so. Life is short so I try my best to enjoy it to the fullest while I can!

Plus...I work like a crazy woman & my job is high stress! Vacations are mandatory! I mix it up with one or two longer vacations (7-14 days) & a few short ones each year (3-4 days).

3. Yeah....I do believe they're edging in that direction....where everything is covered.  The fact that they essentially have two tiers for the sailings outside of Europe, where there are no perks for a bottom price or one with perks (which is similar to the one you quoted above, but adding in dining and drinking fees and tips.  I would imagine they're compiling data to see which way they'll go next.

As far as Virgin cruises, I'm mildly interested.  But as Traveling Fools I do think there will be more of a "party 'till you drop" sort of crowd.  Been there, done that......a LONG TIME AGO.

Doesn’t describe our party at all! We’re hard-working, college educated, middle-aged, professional adults who like to have fun but most of us will “drop” before midnight! LOL! I doubt we’ll be the only ones!

Only time will tell.

4.

Not sure how it will play with us "tweeners".....old enough to be closer to retirement than graduation (like me).

We’d most likely be considered “tweeners” but our kids are college age.

A group of us (mostly 40s & 50s) are sailing together. Some still have younger children at home, some have never had children & some have college kids like us!

We are looking forward to an adult only cruise with other seemingly interesting features.

Will we still cruise other lines but interested to see what experience Virgin will offer!

5. There’s an area called The District that is very fun to hang out and have drinks. (Adults only). They do a great job of keeping the adult only spaces for adults. The shows are also very good so I recommend you try a few of them if you like theater. The restaurants are somewhat of an adventure as well! [emoji4]

6. RCI's Majesty is not that small and the "Cuba premium" has mostly worn off - at least for RCI. The prices I mentioned was mostly an apples-apples comparison including WiFi, grats, etc. Food is very subjective and VV including all venues may not mean much.

It’s smaller than 100,000 tons. For me, during hurricane season that automatically wins. I have terrible motion sickness. Was only willing to sail Grandeur in July in order to take my mom who refuses to fly & doesn’t like long car rides.

As far as food....one wouldn’t know until one tries!
My husband & I ALWAYS purchase dining packages so to not have to will be great.

$2k to find out if it’s worth it to me is not a big deal. Won’t cry over it if it’s not. I’ll simply continue to cruise with products I know I like!

7. Most mainline cruises in low season are lower than that ($500/day). Once the newness wears off and second ship launches, I'd expect that to fall to about $300/day (low season).

We also know that most mainline cruises don’t have the following included in the base price:
Gratuities, ALL eating venues, soda, sparkling water.
Most mainline cruises allow children.
Most mainline cruises that sail to Cuba sail on smaller vessels.

Right now...those facts alone make it worth at least trying.

Tried Disney for a premium & it was very nice but to me wasn’t worth the premium.

I’ll see how it goes & determine if the quality of the product meets the premium!

8. I actually had to call NCL to get a reservation for that night because that date wasn't available online. All other dates were available and it was the same for all of the complimentary restaurants that take a reservation. I thought it was strange - maybe it's because of the viewing. It's our anniversary so I wanted to make sure we had a reservation- I'll move ours to 6. Thanks!

What a wonderful & special way to spend your anniversary! I wish you happiness & many more years together.

It was an amazing, once in a lifetime experience for us....so that night dinner was definitely not the priority! [emoji4]
