  1.

This is what is on a major Yorkshire based TA's website:

"The Limelight club. Exclusively for adults, it’s also a hotspot for dancing, with daytime classes and hosted dancing events."

That's where they are hosting the Strictly events they have just announced, so they could mean these events and the every night dancing could be elsewhere, it's difficult to know?

Will miss Harlequins when Oriana is gone 😭

  2. Take a look at Al Fresco.

They have a nice selection of Pizza's, Small quiches, Toasties, and usually a soup and some pasta dishes.

They will make you a sausage sandwich to order.

Small but well presented salad bar, and a small range of sweets.

All included, so no extra charges for the food.

It's one of our favourite eating places onboard.

  3. As a beginner (we started dance classes last Oct) I would agree with comments about you being unlucky with the instructors. The couple (not sure if I am allowed to name them) on Oriana at Christmas were brilliant. Easy classes in the morning, and adding the harder bits in the afternoon.

The problem with P&O is that they tell the instructors to concentrate on the Ballroom and Latin dances, they are not supposed to teach any Sequence dances. This is a shame as many people like them, and as DGS says it builds confidence in a beginner.

We started with the Social Foxtrot, then the Waltz, and have progressed from there.

Port Out. One hour a week class is not enough, we now go 3 times a week to sessions that mainly concentrate on Sequence, and after the hour of tuition we stay on and join in the social dance, dancing the ones we know. We practice as often as we can at home as well. Never watched so little TV in my life....

One thing we have found, both on Cruises and Social dances at home is that most of the experienced dancers are only too willing to help you. It's a lovely, friendly, and social pastime, we are hooked now.

Malcolm. Turn up to the dance classes, yes they walk both Men and Ladies steps through separately. It's a good way to see if you like it, and if you do then take classes when you get back home. There is usually a short supply of Men on their own, so more than likely you will end up with a partner to dance with.

  4. What TangoYork says is correct, some nights the "proper" dancing finished at 11.15pm, other nights it was midnight. At Christmas the DJ played music you can jive/freestyle to for 20 mins or so, before he starts with the disco stuff. We got bumped to the Pacific lounge for a couple of nights.

Also, on the sea days they put on dance music CD's between the 2 dance classes, so you can get some practice in. That's between noon and 3pm.

Don't worry, Oriana is still a dancers ship :)

  5. As others have said, a trip to Butrint NP is well worth the effort.

Especially if history is your thing and you had planned to do Ephesus from Kusadasi.

We didn't have a walk around Sarande after the trip so can't comment on the Town itself. After a tiring trip we just wanted to get back onboard for a rest. You have to be reasonably fit to get the best out of Butrint in the July heat, it's worth the effort though.

  6. Agree about the executive chef making a difference.

We were on Oriana over Christmas and although the menu was basically the same we found the food on X607 was much better. The selections of veg was more varied and seemed to compliment the main item better. It was generally better prepared too, and not over-salted as we too have found in the past.

The Sardines i had one lunchtime in the buffet were so good I went back for more:D I think there was a good turnover of them and they had just come straight off the grill.

We tend to stick to the MDR at night, but went to the Indian buffet the night it was on. This was our only poor dining experience, not a patch on Arcadia last year. Little choice and not particularly good quality.

Alfresco is good for a change at breakfast, but those bacon paninis are so hard. Lovely omelettes though.

  7. Anniebea.

Have you considered one of those parasols that clip onto a child's pushchair?

They will pack into a large case.

We have one for MIL's wheelchair as she won't wear a hat.

It also can be fitted to the sunbeds. It doesn't give full shade, just head and shoulders, but it's something that might suit you.

    Just a thought.

    Joe.

  8. Yes, Kenneth Vard is very good, one of the best we have seen. Such a relevant subject for cruising, I notice he always saves the Titanic one until the end ;)

We have seen him before so didn't go again last week, I caught bits of him on the TV whilst getting changed in the cabin and he is his usual wonderful self.

Kathleen ??? who does the ones on Ian Fleming and James Bond is also good. Engaging and funny at times.

If you get John Martin, then P&O get 2 for the price of one, he is an excellent comedian and gives a good talk about operation anthropoid from WWII.

  9. Thanks for a great review Brenda, and pleased you both had a great time.

I must thank you for recommending the Botanical gardens in Malaga, it was many moons ago. (probably about 2 years actually)

We never made it when we visited Malaga from Majesty, one week was the Easter procession of the Christ, a really good thing to be involved in, and the second week we did the Alcazar and Castle.

We made it up to the Gardens last week getting the no 2 bus, and really enjoyed it.

    Thanks again.

    Joe.

  10. Wear sensible shoes though. Some people were walking it in flipflops!!

Good advice, even if you do the troll car, there is still 10 minutes walk from where it stops.

Take cagoules as well, it started a lovely day, but got very damp up there later. that fine drizzle that wets you through.

  11. Those prices listed on the website are the same as we were charged on Oriana last week.

Some of the cocktails are good value as they are all a double measure.

The last few days the basic spirits were being advertised as only half as much again for a double. (eg £1.50 extra)

Getting a can of orange juice works out better value than just a glass, £1.75 for a 330ml can, you probably get about half a can if you order by the glass and have ice. The menu doesn't mention you can order a can, just ask for a can of treetop orange, it's proper orange juice, not fanta.

Duty free does not have the 2x Ltr bottles for £14 offer now, the cheap spirits are £9 a Ltr, so it's cheaper to buy it from the Spanish supermarkets if you are cruising there.

  12. X80 is the best option. A lot closer than the Metro, only 5 minutes walk.

    Great friendly drivers.

Get the ticket (€4) return last time I was there, from the kiosk where the HOHO buses go from and the bus stop is across the road.
