  1. I have been LCHF WOE (way of eating) not dieting for 14 months now and 80 POF (pounds of fat) GONE! I do NOT 'cheat' as this is my way of eating everyday - cruise - vacation - birthdays - parties - going outto dinner - no day is different - I eat this way everyday.

We have been gone from home since 22 March and a total of 39 days onboard Radiance from Australia - New Zealand and now Transpacific to Hawaii through Tahiti - Bora Bora and French Polynesia :)

I have been able to continue with my LCHF WOE everyday and also IF (intermittent fasting). We usually don't eat breakfast but if we do it is eggs fried to order - English Bacon - Salami - and usually cheese -

We share wine and cheese along with assorted cold meats from the buffet in our cabin while we play cribbage or dice - maybe watch a movie -

In the evening we eat at the buffet where I can get several grilled meats - salad and maybe a vegtable -

The only "Cheat" you could say I have is wine - an occasional Bloody Mary (made with very little BM mix) and my drink of choice in the Diamond Lounge at night is 2 shots of vodka - squeeze of lime and Sprite ZZero - again NO carbs!

As for desserts - I have only had 3 and that was Pavlova - love that stuff - and if I really want a little 'cheat' I ask the waiter (or it is also at the buffet) for a small scoop of whole whipping cream!

I no long cruise to eat - I don't 'give myself permission' to go off my way of eating - THIS IS A LIFE PLAN for me and I don't want to go back --- BUT THEN AGAIN - because I have been off sugar and carbs for so very long I don't miss them.

There are so many reasons for cruising besides eating - making memories with my husband - meeting new friends - traveling and tour new countries - making our dreams come true - BEING in control of my way of eating has been a dream of mine and I am not giving that one up for anything! :)

Loved reading your post. Hope you enjoyed your cruise in Australia and New Zealand. We are doing New Zealand in November on Radiance. We have also done the Sydney to Hawaii cruise on Radiance (fantastic trip). I live in Australia.

I hear what you are saying about not cruising to eat, and feel motivated by how you handle WOE on board.

My first test will be a work dinner at Thai restaurant on Friday night, but intend to chose carefully.

So do you think you may have lost any weight while on board, or is there nothing left to lose?

Even just to remain the same weight is a plus.

  2. Don't push for intermittent fasting in the beginning. It'll come naturally after you're in ketosis. To soon and you'll feel crappy for no reason

  3. PS: gotta tell ya, first 5 days were a killer for me, sugar withdrawal was ugly. Woke up day 6 and said "damn". First time in s long long time I felt really good in the morning. Now it's how I wake up every day.

Looking forward to this feeling. Fed-up with being tired all the time. I want to live life again.

  4. So, it's day one. Read a lot of info on Diet Doctor on LCHF and intermittent fasting.

Got up this morning had black coffee (usually have heaps of milk) ate nothing till lunch, which was salad with boiled egg and mayo.

I am sure the first 5 days will be tough. Knowing this I am prepared to take it on. Feel strong now- I'll let you know in a few days how it's going.

  5. Need help? Ideas for work lunch and easy dinner after getting home late from work.

Also are protein shakes good for breakfast or should I just have eggs? How many eggs are safe in a day if you have high cholesterol? Sorry for all the question - but new to this.

  6. We walked from the ship to the Gate of India harbour and caught a small tour boat out to Elephanta Island to see the caves. The trip over took about an hour and we stayed another couple to explore. The walk from the small dock is about a block long absolutely flat, then climbs a staircase lined on each side with various vendors. Actually, the prices for their souvenirs were quite reasonable and the young men were friendly - not too pushy. There has been some damage to the statues in the caves. Apparently many years ago they were used for target practice! There was a guide explaining some historical details to a group but some pre-reading will give you the information you need. Snacks and cold drinks were available for sale on the pathway and on the small boat. Watch out for the grabby monkeys.

Thank you for all that information. It was just as you said. It was a great experience. We did buy some items from the stalls that lined the stairs. They had great prices, and had some nice things. Saw the monkeys grabbing other people's things. But we went prepared. Had a good morning, which left the afternoon to look around Mumbai. Again thanks for all the info, it was very helpful.

  7. We are also looking at a private tour in Bay of Islands. Can anyone suggest a good company that ensures you get back to the ship in plenty of time.

Gordo - have you found anything good for this port yet. Would be interested. I think you saw what we are doing in Dunedin. My husband (LTL Bris) posted about a doing a train trip in our cruise thread.

  8. The so called Formal night was first sea day out of Fremantle. It was called 'Dress your Best' so a lot of people dressed especially because it was also a meet and greet with the Captain. But people who did not go dressed up or formal were not turned away from the Restaurants. We did fine that more people who dined in The Grande did make an effort most nights.

  9. Thanks again Lahore,

I think I will do as you suggested and wander around the centre of Georgetown looking at buildings and eat at the hawker stalls. Then catch a taxi to Prangin mall for a bit of shopping.

  10. If I was there for only one day I would absolutely take Taxis, they are very cheap, just remember the prices I told you and don't go too far above them, also don't tell them you are from the cruise ship until you have negotiated the price. That being said Penang is nothing like some other Asian countries and while they will try to get a few extra Ringgit off you it will only equate to about a dollar in Australian money so it's not really a big deal.

If I was there for the amount of times I would wander around in the centre of Georgetown for awhile looking at some of the old buildings in trying some of the local restaurants and Hawker stalls. Lebuh Kimberley area after about five pm is good for that. Just wander and graze, we lived in the area for six months and eight at the hawkers stalls every single day and never got sick, so I wouldn't worry about that sort of thing. Little India is also pretty interesting if you like indian culture.

For something very luxurious and colonial I would definitely highly recommend a short break for a cocktail at the eastern and oriental hotel. Go to Faquhars Bar in the old wing. It's just like Raffles and in fact was built by the same brothers who built Raffles.

Unfortunately most of the markety T-shirt type shopping is out at A place called Batu Ferringi. It's quite a long way from town and in bad traffic, which happens often, it could take you over an hour each way. Once you get there it's a bit of a tourist ghetto toO, but they do have night market. Alternatively you go go to Prangin Mall which is just near the tall building called KOMTAR, they sell all sorts of stuff, very cheap, on multiple floors.

    There's a start...

Wow! Thanks Lahore, that's great information.

Just 2 quick questions - the Pranging Mall, is it close to the port. And secondly do you know of a good place close to port to get a foot massage at a reasonable price. Thanks again in advance.

  11. Ha - no clue, I haven't been there yet! I was just reading on other travel forums about Ko Samui and people mentioned good seafood and lots of places offering massages. I've seen pictures in markets of other Thai cities with chairs & signs just sitting out offering massages for various prices. So right now our plan is to wing it:p

I've seen various prices, but around 200-300 baht for a 1 hr massage, maybe a little more for a 1hr foot massage. Full body with oil -300-400 baht.

Thanks Hoyaheel, might try for a a foot massage.

  12. Thanks Lahore,

We arrive around 3.30pm and leave about 10.30pm.

Would it be good to use a HO HO bus to get around. But a taxi does not sound to expensive.

I was thinking night markets to buy t-shirts, children's clothing, jewellery (not expensive), perfume. Maybe there is somewhere better to shop for this type of things. I would like your advise.

We like to look at some historical buildings, but not interested in temples. I like the idea of eating at Hawker stalls. We don't like to stop for to long at any one place. Maybe sit for about 30mins over a cocktail or a coffee.

So if you could suggest places for shopping and a place to wander to look at buildings and eat a little along the way and a nice place to stop for a drink that would be excellent.

Thank you so much. Hope your hand gets better soon.

  13. Lived here, and here (in Penang) right now. What sort of things do you want to see/do?

I am also interested in Penang, we arrive late afternoon on our cruise, and was thinking of a night market as I don't we will have much time for the usual sight seeing. Where do you suggest and the best way to get there from the port. Anything else you think we may be able to do after 3.30pm I would be interested in also. Many thanks.

  14. How long did it take to walk to the Gate of India and how far do you think it was?

Also do you know anything about the Kanheri caves on the western outskirts of Mumbai, in the Sanjay Ganadhi National Park?

I was wondering how long it takes to get there? And if it is a better site than Elephanta Caves? Many thanks
