  1. Most people on the ship don't make very much money. They work long hours and they are hard working people. IF NCL does use some of the DSC for something other than gratuities, that means those people make even less. Then when people go to guest services and remove the DSC and give cash to only those who they come in contact with, again the people (behind the scenes) make even less.

If you are angry with NCL because you believe they are making a profit off of DSC, then don't sail NCL.

If you are concerned with the crew not getting enough money, tip the people over and above the DSC for doing a good job.

  2. I agree with abt. They were okay. I am going to Bermuda with a group of friends. I have been to the caves but they have not. They would like to see them. I really do not wish to go again (once is enough), so I may find something else to explore while they explore the caves.

I would not say it's a waist of money, but since I have already seen them I would rather spend what precious little time I have doing something new. Maybe I will sit at the Swizzle Inn and drink Rum Swizzles while I wait for them :)

  3. I'm only going to be there a day and a half. The second day (5 PM departure) we plan to bus to HSB, walk to Warwick and back to HSB, bus back to dockyard. On our first and full day, I would like to see the beaches on the other side of the island. Any suggestions? I'll be traveling with my 23 yr old daughter. We love lounging/swimming on the beach, and also love walking. What are the caves people mention? If possible, please give me detailed transportation instructions! Thanks.

To reach the caves from the dockyard (kings wharf), walk down to the ferry dock at the dockyard, take the Blue Route ferry to Hamilton City (20 minutes), and take bus #1 or 3 for the caves (25-30 minutes). This is the easiest way to reach the caves from the dockyard. Alternatively you can also take bus #7 or 8 to Hamilton (takes nearly one hour from dockyard ) and then transfer to #1 or 3. You will also get taxis from Dockyard taxi stand. Take about 45 minutes by taxi to reach the caves from dockyard. On your return, you may not get a taxi unless you see one getting released by other visitors.

  4. I think you misunderstood. When I said Dawn was my last NCL cruise, it means that was my most recent NCL cruise, not that it was my last ever.

I had Getaway booked this past January but had to cancel. My friends who still went loved it and from what I heard of their cruise, I likely would have loved it also. I actually like the way NCL is going. I just don't like their older ships. Not only Dawn...I know I'll never book Sky again also.

Oh, yes I misunderstood. I would like to try one of the new ships too some day.

  5. Sorry, I can't agree with that. I try to love every line I sail. It would be foolish to spend the money and not try to love it, right? So far, I do love 4 out of the 5 lines I've sailed. Unfortunately for my view of NCL, Dawn was my last NCL cruise and it left a sour taste in my mouth.

Why do you want to reject the entire fleet because of one bad experience on one ship? I have been on both the Dawn and the Spirit. My opinion of the Dawn is not quite the same as yours, but it was my least favorite of the two ships. Disney Magic was my favorite but NCL Spirit was just a nice in many ways. If you tried a different ship you might be surprised. :)

  6. Darn it. For a brief second I was hoping we'd be sailing AFTER dry dock. Oh well. I would have loved to have O'Sheehan's on there, but either way, I love the ship and won't be disappointed to see her again! A cruise is what you make it! It's all about the attitude! [emoji4]

I was hoping we'd be sailing after dry dock too. I was hoping they would fix those windows. The cruise will be a blast anyways!! It will be my first time in a suite and I can't wait :D

  7. On the Jewel Class ships you can buy a spa pass. It gives you access to spa area only (no treatments). See older post below.

There are robes, juice, tea, and plenty of towels.

The men's thermal suite has sauna/steam rooms, showers, hydromassage showers and a pair of Japanese plunge baths (hot and ice cold). The cold bath is a real shocker when you dip. According to my wife, the women's thermal suite is similar except it does not have the plunge baths.

  8. We sailed on the Dawn Feb. 8, 2015, and while we found the ship okay our suite certainly was not. The room would have been pleasant except for the fact that the view from three of the four windows was completely ruined the entire trip by the moisture trapped between the panes of glass. We complained and initially were offered a 15% discount on a future cruise. Thanks for the offer - not interested. We were then offered an OBC which was less than the difference between a balcony and this suite. We were told that this had been an ongoing problem but could not be fixed until the ship is dry docked in 2016.

As for entertainment, nothing of interest to us. Same for onboard games, etc. Enjoyed some of the public areas and loved the Chefs Table.

We took the trip to relax and enjoy the view. Best laid plans.....

The Dawn will be in dry dock May 2015. I hope they fix the windows.

  9. I sailed on the Dawn last summer. It was my third cruise. I liked NCL Spirit and Disney Magic better, but the Dawn isn't that bad. I have another cruise booked on her this fall. Now that I have been on the Dawn, I know what I like and what I don't like. I can plan my trip accordingly. But as many here say, any day on a cruise is a good day!

  10. When I went I bought the Rum Swizzle and the Frog and Onion T-Shirts.

We went to Sea Glass Beach. It really is a very unique place to visit and take pictures. It is owned by Wedco now. Unfortunately, people got too greedy and started taking it by the bucket full.

  11. Truth!! We live near the Canadian border & have many Canadian friends. We ALWAYS get chocolate when we're there or our friends bring us some when they visit here. It is SOOOOO much better!

We live in NH. Whenever anyone we know goes to Canada we ask them to bring us some chocolate. Just as an example if you compare a Canadian Herseys bar to a U.S. Herseys bar, the Canadian one is way better. The U.S. one tastes waxy and blah in comparison. I'm sure they have the edge over the U.S. for fine chocolates as well.

Their cookies are way better than ours too!

  12. Don't know about the cruise. But, we've been to DisneyWorld (twice actually). Sorry, but it's just not Disneyland.

Well this is an eye opener. I was always under the impression the the "World" was better than the "Land". I guess I'll have to go see for myself some time :D

  13. I love to travel to new places but I do not/will not fly. My last time on a plane was in 1996. I was sad that my fear would not allow me to see and explore new places. Then in 2010 I went on my first cruise! Spirit to Bermuda. Now I'm hooked :)
