I'm glad you posted this. We are on the Dawn in June in an aft penthouse. I have been scouring CC for months to learn everything I can about NCL, the Dawn and traveling in a suite, all of which are first for me. As with everything in life it's easy to build something up so much that being let down is almost impossible. This has been a little reality check for me and I am going to lower my expectations a bit so as not to be let down.

Thanks for all the nice replies. We will be on the Dawn in June. Very good tip about having her go the first day/night. It's funny it never really occurred to me that I may be the one looking for people to hang out with as she may be busy with her new friends!! :)

This is our first cruise. I have no idea if she will hang out in the teen club the whole cruise or none of the cruise- just won't know until we get there.

If she wants to be with me can she be in a lounge with me listening to music in the evening? Can she be with me at bingo? I know she can't play. In other words are there areas of the ship (besides the casino) that she won't be allowed in, or it would be inappropriate for her to be there because of her age?

Turns out hubby won't be going with DD and I on our cruise in June :(. It is not past final payment. Do I have to call to remove him from the reservation or can I do it myself online?

Thanks for all the input. I think I will buy the insurance. I did check with our credit card company and there is no coverage there. Any advice or anything I should be cautious of when finding a policy? Thanks for your help!!

I am wondering what most people do? We are driving to port, sailing mid June to Bermuda, have no medical issues and don't plan on doing anything more dangerous than snorkeling from the beach. I'm thinking it's not too likely we will need insurance. Of course you just never know. What would/do you do?

I booked about a year out. Aft Penthouse and have had 2 price drops since then. Saved about $850 so far. Still hoping for more but I doubt it now. Just the thought of warm weather is getting me through this dreadful New England winter. We are expecting another 8-12 inches of snow on Wednesday.....arggghhhhhhh!!!!!

Well that's a little added stress right before your vaca. Hopefully by this afternoon you will be on board, with your luggage, cocktail in hand sailing off into the sunset!! Take good care of the Dawn I'll be on her in June!!

Well glad to see I'm not the only one who is all about the ship. I SO want to try one of the newer ships with all the bells and whistles but am glad to be starting out on the Dawn. We live in New Hampshire so won't have to fly in and starting out on a smaller ship will give us a chance to work our way up. I think this will be a great "first timer" cruise.

I had no idea I would be SO obsessed with knowing everything about the ship and our cabin, I really just can't get enough.

I'm thrilled we are going to Bermuda, but haven't really even thought about what we will do there as I am so loving researching the ship.

We aren't going until June and I'm sure as the trip gets closer I will get a game plan together. I am a planner and it's just my 14 year old dd and I so I want to be sure we have fun things to do.

I really was just wondering if others were as OCD about knowing everything about the ship as I am??

Thanks. It seems weird that a smaller mini-suite has a full couch and the penthouse only has a fold out chair? I'm sure it will be fine, it just seems odd.

Can anyone tell me what size the couch is when made up for sleeping. From some photos it looks like a twin and others it look like a full maybe? We are in 10726 if that matters. My 14 year hold dd is 5'6" and I wonder if it will be comfortable for her.

I probably will just bring some on board and have some sort of reusable cup for her to fill from the cabin and take with. Doesn't sound like the package makes sense price wise for us either way. Thanks again for the info.

My 14 year old daughter and I are traveling on the Dawn. How much would the soda package be and do we both need to have it?
How much is a soda if purchased without the package. She may have one, maybe 2 sodas a day when on vacation so I'm not sure it's worth it.
