  1. What an unimaginative world cruise, just the same old ports and only 27ports in 99 nights.

I can't believe there is only one circumnavigation from any line leaving the uk in 2020 and that's all they have come up with.

Seeing as it's looking likely that she may be going in 2020 I was hoping they would give the Oriana one last spin round the world. Or even Aurora as we really just don't quite like Arcadia she's just on the verge of being a little big for us.

  2. World cruise will have to wait for another year as didn't think much of Arcadias itinerary and it's the only one sailing from the uk in 2020 [emoji20] was hoping for one like the Auroras a few years ago that went up to Japan and down round South Africa...

  3. Oh, have you got a brochure for 2019/20! We haven’t had one yet - the people who Fred use for mailings seem very inefficient. (Whenever they have a new sailing with a date when Oceans members can book, we get the notification a couple of days later! Rather annoying, especially as we live near London and not on some remote offshore island!)

Anyway, regarding world cruises. A few days ago there was a link on here to a page showing a list of the new itineraries. I thought it looked like Boudicca was doing a world cruise starting in about October 2019. Not the customary January start. (I think that is how they are doing it for next winter too.) It seemed to show what looked like world cruise sectors on the list I saw.

    Am I wrong? Probably!

The brochure i saw was on their website at the bottom click cruise brochures and youll see it and view online.

The boudicca is doing a long trip but they're selling them as fly cruises as loads of ports repeat and its more of a 'boomerang' cruise.... South africa south asia australia back to south asia then dubai and back home... Although it would be good its not a true circumnavigation and i dont think the experience would be the same as its mainly sold as shorter cruises back to back.

Maybe true world cruises are becoming a thing of the past as nobody as yet seems to be doing a circumnavigation in 2020 mind you the south america on the balmoral may end up going cheap with 4 ships from the uk all going round south america at the same time!

The problem is i think the past few 'true' world cruises on Fred have all followed very much the same route if they were to mix it up abit they could sell well again for instance do north america north asia india and home via south africa rather than what has become the standard...

  4. Holding out hope that p&o will be doing a full world circumnavigation in 2020 as no one else seems to be

Cunard are doing australia and back on the qm2 and south america on the QV

Fred are sending the Balmoral around south america

And although not released yet i have it on good authority that CMV are doing south america too

typical as 2020 is a big year for me and OH and for years we have said that we'll go on a world cruise then to celebrate and there simply isnt one at the moment so p&o are our last hope! Although thinking about it my hope of a p&o world cruise on the Oriana may be pushing it abit far lol ( go on give the old girl a fast run round the world like she was built for before you get rid of her p&o!):p

I have to say I was amazed that Either Fred or Cunard were not offering a round the world as its been a mainstay for them for years!

And why suddenly is everyone going round south america instead i mean sure one ship used to do it a year from the uk but all of them? ( Maybe the brits want to invade argentina en mass) ;)

  5. Excitedly looked at the new brochure today to look at what was being offered in the way of world cruises for 2020 and it seems they're not doing one this must be the first time in years that one of freds ships hasnt sailed around the world! The balmoral instead is sailing round south america for 70 nights.

Its a shame as 2020 was a big year for me and OH and we have always said we would celebrate by sailing round the world.

I'm relying on p&o coming through when they announce their new itineraries as cunard has no circumnavigations either and i have it on good authority that CMV will be doing south america in 2020 also.

Maybe the long held dream wont be happening in 2020 after all :(

Side note long cruises definately seem to be out as me and my mother were interested in one of the longer med trips fred has done for years of around 4 weeks but there doesnt seem to be much option there either!

  6. Read today that portuscale cruises have cancelled all planned cruises on the Funchal and are hoping for it to be chartered instead. one interesting thing is that newells travel who sell them in the uk clearly havent updated since they're still for sale...

Personally i'd like to see CMV charter her as she would go nicely with the M.V. Azores and Marco Polo. It will be such a shame if another old girl sails of to the knackers yard. I am booked on the Azores in march which CMV have chartered from Portuscale.

One does wonder how long they can last though as the Azores charter is the only ship of the fleet actually active and bringing them money...and it cant be cheap to keep them all maintained and just tied up in Lisbon.

  7. I would immagine that the new terrace balconies will be something like these on the left of the Amadeas Promenade deck, just a portioned of area so only semi private. or they could be like HALs lanai cabins that are just a balcony door directly onto prom with no partition.

  8. Snap we're off on that too! i'm not looking forward to the flight it will be the longest i've ever flown (I HATE flying), normally I can just about stand the 2-2.30 hours of the flight to italy/ Spain!!!! i think the secret is check in when you get to the airport but don't go through security too early as once through no where to smoke, I normally hang back until just before the gate number is displayed. where are you flying from?

    regards

  9. Unfortunately you cant use them on flights anymore but you can use it in your cabin but not in the public areas of the ship.

When i asked last year about why you can no longer use them on flights I was told.

"based on passengers opinions we are no longer allowing the use of electronic cigarettes as although we are aware that the vapour produced makes no smell unlike real cigarettes many passengers still find the sight offensive"

TBH I just couldn't believe it...

    Regards
