  1. I am cruising to Bermuda in September and need to know everyone's opinion on Norwegian Breakaway cabins 11274 & 11874. They are balcony cabins with an angled balcony and are on different sides of the ship. Friends of ours stayed in 11274 when we all cruised to Bermuda last year. Their room faced the ocean as opposed to the port. Please help.

The Breakaway does not always dock the same way in Bermuda ,so if you are looking for a specific view from your balcony it's a crap shoot at this time

  2. Did you sail yet? We sail in July and have a Deck 11 corner aft booked. How was the soot, vibration, motion, and noise level?

Did there seem to be air movement? I am thinks of being a fan just for the balcony?

This thread is over a year old, I'm pretty sure that they sailed.,but some good info on the aft's .I'm doing my 1st aft next week on the BA . Hope you have a wonderful time in your corner aft, that is some prime real estate

  3. I cruise on April 30 and looked today the prices dropped. Its only 71 dollars but its still a drop Do you think I call or am I out of luck I booked a GTY Balcony and already assigned my room. I was upgraded and I am unsure if they will have me paying for a GTY or the cabin I have. Should I call?

What category cabin were you assigned? If you were upgraded already, probably nothing will be done ,prices go up and down all the time. I wouldn't bother calling, you are 70 days out and prices will continue to change +-

  4. i hadnt looked at that room before but see its virtually the same size as the spa haven room and is 200 more on my itinerary. but of course closer to haven than me :)

i know not everyone needs a spa in the room but to me that fact, plus the 400 dollars we 'save' on the spa pass really seems like a great deal for the spa room

I did a tour of the haven spa room. All i could say is, love this room.

  5. I just got off the Breakaway this morning so I wanted to write this while the memories were still fresh. This was a super last minute cruise because I desperately needed a vacation to just decompress after some stressful periods at work. I was on the BA back in January on the final CTN and enjoyed myself immensely so thought why not even though I hate the itinerary selection from NYC.

I initially booked a GTY Ocean View 2 weeks out from sailing and ended up upgrading to a GTY balcony when the price dropped. I was assigned a mi-ship family mini-suite two days before sailing. I was debating whether to call and upgrade myself to the Haven but I had a balcony cabin for a steal so I left it alone. I chose the SDP and internet since I’m not much of a drinker.

My boarding time was between 12:30p-1:00p so I arrived around 12:40p, waited in line about 20 minutes and then boarded the ship. Easy peasy. Dropped my bags off and then went to Savor for lunch. They seem to serve the same thing for lunch all week. Food was okay.

Our room was Deck 12, mid-ship with a balcony. Room Steward was Wesley who was FABULOUS! Room was super noisy during Splash Academy pick-up and drop-off times but otherwise I loved it. I ordered room service several times because I’m a really slate sleeper and it was fine each time. I could see how that $7.95 charge is annoying when room service used to be free.

As you all know by now, it was the Quebec school break so there were kids everywhere. I was across from Splash Academy and heard them in the mornings and evenings. The only place the kids were overwhelming were in the hot tubs. I don’t recall ever seeing a hot tub that wasn’t full of small children. Why are small children in hot tubs to begin with?

I went to “Rock of Ages” which I really enjoyed and the Cirque “Jungle Fantasy” which I also really enjoyed. “Howl at the Moon” was also incredibly fun. I also won in the casino. Shocking right?! I turned $50 into $1300 playing $.02 Quick Hit, Triple Diamond and Mr. Cashman. I gave back $300 on the last night of the cruise. The casino layout is bizarre to me. Why on Earth is the casino spread out on Deck 7 mid-ship? The smoke is unavoidable. Kids in casino chairs at 2am was not cute.

For the SDP I booked Le Bistro, Moderno, Cagney’s, and Ocean Blue. I’m sorry but I have no idea how Le Bistro gets such high ratings. The food was terrible. My daughter had the Dover Sole and I had Surf & Turf and the beef and lobster were absolutely inedible. Service was also extremely slow. It took us 75 minutes to receive our entrees. I was so annoyed that I kept track of the time.

Cagney’s was quite possibly the best steak I’ve had in my life. I had the Bone-in Ribeye. OMGAMAZING! I loved Moderno. I eat at Fogo de Chao often so the concept is identical. Ocean Blue was absolutely perfect and I highly, highly recommend it. I have to look at my pics to see what I ordered but everything I ate was magnificent. The food is reminiscent of Le Bernadin. Service at these three places was superb. Shangai Noodle Bar was a surprise sleeper hit for me. The Spicy Seafood Udon was DELICIOUS and spicy. This place was packed every single night. On the first sea day there was a two hour wait. We only ate in the MDR one night and it was okay. My daughter discovered that the buffet had a crepes station so she was there every night. I spent many late nights at O’Sheehan’s. Fajitas are excellent.

I went to Bliss once and the pool once. I played lots of mini bowling and air hockey. NCL internet is pitifully slow. The day I wanted to try the ropes course it was closed due to wind. This just means I have to board the BA again so I can zipline :)

I did not get off the ship at Port Canaveral. I loved Great Stirrup Cay but the water was a little too brisk to really enjoy swimming especially since the sun kept hiding. I got off the ship at Nassau but honestly, unless you’ve never been here you can skip it. I’ve been like 20 times. I took my daughter to the Slavery Museum right on Bay Street then we walked to Junkanoo Beach to the Tiki Bikini Hut, rented some chairs, ordered some lunch and got back on the ship after two hours because that water was cold!

I have dailies for all days except Day 2 or 3. I will try to get them up this week. I also have the excursion list for Florida & the Bahamas so I will get those up too. Any questions, please ask. I didn’t take many pics but as soon as I have some free time I will post them.

Let me add, every single person we met on the ship, both passenger and crew, were extremely friendly and happy. I really, really enjoyed my vacation and am seriously considering booking a Bermuda trip in May.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the cruise. If you haven't been to Bermuda you will love it.Just be careful of the man- o- wars in the water in May. I'm on the Breakaway again in 2 weeks and like you I am not a fan of this itinerary, but got a great deal while son and daughter are both on spring break at the same time this year.

  6. Once we booked our cruise, I began reading a lot of the posts here on CC. I was sea sick on a couple cruises we took 15-20 years ago, but haven't been sick on more recent cruises. I am reading that you can feel more of the movement in forward cabins and it appears that that is most likely what I will get with this category. Has anyone cruised in a forward cabin on the Getaway and found it problematic? Is this something I should be concerned about or is the movement minimal? I was all excited about our first balcony, but now I'm a bit concerned. Thanks!

I was on the Breakaway twice once on deck 8 forward mini suite, no issues at at all and the second time we were on deck 11 aft no issues either. We are leaving again in 2 weeks on the Breakaway and I booked a BD cabin on deck 8. I like being close to the waterfront area as opposed to a higher deck closer to the pool area. I was happy on deck 8 with the location but recently upgraded to an aft balcony on deck 9

  7. Interesting! Glad I followed! We have never sailed on a humongous ship before. The PCC quoted us 85 sq ft. for the balcony. I thought that was pretty big. He quoted another larger one on deck 13.

I could probably still change - we wanted a higher deck closer to the pool deck since we smoke (I know...I know! ~ sorry).

Is the noise really that loud from H2O???

You know Chitown, smoking is prohibited on balconies ,but i wont tell.

  8. I was in 12906 this past August. Huge balconies (second only to deck 9) and a convenient deck for getting up top to the pool deck. Definitely recommend it!

any pictures? I'm not to concerned about being close tot the pool,I want to be close to the bars on the waterfront. We had a M6 on deck 8 and loved the location, how was the noise from H20 ? I hear it can be loud on 12 13 & 14 .I like to sleep with balcony door open

  9. Thanks. I was leaning to keep it. We wanted this location when we booked but was 900 more at time of booking, I called NCL reservations last week to up grade they want an additional 1200 ,they told me to wait 2 weeks and it might be cheaper.I called the upsell dept 2 days later and got it for 200, so in total got this cabin for 2500 including port taxes for 3 with UBP and soda for son . I was also able to get my daughter from an ocean view to a Large balcony on deck 9 for 55 bucks.

  10. I upgraded from a BD balcony to an aft balcony for dirt cheap. How much sun exposure do the balconies get on deck 9 . They look completely covered ,would I be better off on 12 or 13 for more sun. I know the orientation of the ship to the sun will have a lot to do with it , I really dont want to lounge out in the shade.

  11. I booked my cruise in the US with one promo ,I booked my daughter through the UK site because the promotion had ended in the US .We both got the UBP.I called the US upsell number to get an upsell for both myself and my daughter .I was only able to get one for myself as I was told she booked through the UK site and nothing they can do. I called the UK reservations number to get an upgrade, was able to do it but at the current rate. She went from an ocean view to large balcony for £ 40 more total. Not a bad price. She paid total for a large balcony with UBP and prepaid gratuity £1373.50 (approx. 1910 USD) That same cabin is going for $3221.00 USD or £2315.10 .Saved over $1300.00 dollars or £941 by using the UK site. There advantages of using both. Good luck with your upgrades and or upsells if they ever come.

  12. I'm on the 3/13... no friends or family on this cruise (and first time hearing about the upsell number) so I jumped.

Family has no idea, although I had mentioned that I could in passing but said it was too much money.

Then after declining it...it stuck in my mind and I called daily to check. Knowing the weather is worse going out of nyc...1500 for a bigger room, enclosed space... no chair hogs (or less)... how could I not???

Enjoy every minute of it, I only did one suite,, so I know what I am missing.

  13. I paid 750 cdn pp... I asked if there was a difference between usd vs cdn, they said no. Whatever they offered for the upsell it was in the currency you originally paid for the cruise. H4 (2 bedrooms) is listed $15000 cdn... so 1500 for the upgrade well worth it...

There was only 2 rooms left...I was calling everyday and price didn't change but the numbers of rooms were dropping so I jumped...

    Now I'm pumped!!!!!

Good deal ,my wife didn't want to do it because we are going with a small group. She said if it were just us two it would be enjoyable, since we probably won't be in the haven too much. I did get the aft balcony she wanted though, lol . I told one of my friends to call and he got the courtyard penthouse for 1000. Are you on the 3/20 cruise?

  14. Not a regular on NCL but have been on epic and enjoyed it very much and probably going to book getaway for summer 2017. I keep reading about people ringing NCL about Upsells - how does this work and can anyone do it (we are from the UK if that makes any difference) . Would love to book the haven but pricing a bit more than I want to spend so we will likely book a mini suite. What are the chances of an "upsell" to a haven suite?

I don't know of a specific number to call in the UK but the US number can't help you. I was able to use the US number for myself but my daughter booked through the UK and they said they can not do anything. I was able to call the UK reservations number to get her upgraded from an ocean view to a large balcony for £40. This wasn't an upsell ,it was do to dramatic price drops. Best of luck

  15. I contacted my pic by email when I say a big price drop on our march cruise and upgraded from an interior room to an aft balcony for €20 per person,we also got the Sdp as this was before 30 day blackout for offers. The week previously I was offered the aft balcony by the upsell dept for a charge ofc €600 so it's worth trying 😊 just be careful you don't lose any perks you got at booking.

I booked my daughter from NCL UK got her from an ocean view to large balcony for £ 40 .I'm happy with that because it was only around 1900 USD total for that room.

  16. Yes....

I paid for an upgrade from BD balcony to H4 - saved 66% in total off of ncl.com price...it was a no brainer especially travelling in the cold season

If you don't mind me asking xcell, what did you pay for the upsell they wanted 500pp last week BD to H5 ,I don't know what a H4 is but 2br was 1000pp DOS was 1500pp. I went w aft balcony at 100 lol.

  17. Thanks I hope they don't get addicted to it. This is the first solo cruise (usually we go with my parents or friends) and my DD12 has had a bad year at school (which also stressed DW out).. so I thought this might be a nice surprise...

Hopefully, nice and relaxing. .. no having to deal with chair hogs, etc...

Nice, I'm on the 3/20 sailing. I too called the upsell # looking to get an aft balcony, no such luck. They did offer me courtyard penthouse for an extra 1500 ,declined.I called the next day was offered same room again for 1000, 2br 2000 ,and DOS for 3k more. I declined again,do to the fact that we are going with a group of 12 and wouldn't use the haven to it full potential, if we were alone game on. I asked about the aft balcony again and got it for 200. It was originally over 900 more at time of booking, so at 2500 total for 3 with UBP and soda promo ,port taxes I'm happy. Would be happier in the haven though.
