  1. We have not seen any of the in house produced new shows . however having read the comments by others on this thread ,we now have concerns for our B2B next May cruises on Infiniti .

We are long time Celebrity cruisers with over 40 Celebrity cruises & a total of 77 cruises . Imo .if Celebrity keeps up bad reviewed shows & that does get around .they can see themselves sailing with less people on board . It is all about the top & bottom lines in their business ;which would suffer if they are simply trying to save the money producing their own main stage shows .Call it penny wise & pound foolish .This is my 2 cents ;)

Do people really only cruise on a line because of the shows? I can't imagine that would be true to base a cruise choice on how good the shows are. After all the production shows only amount to roughly 3-4 hours of the entire cruise experience.

I can see people choosing a cruise based on food quality, but show quality, when there is usually other things that can be done, I kind of doubt it.

  2. I've put my stuff through scanners when embarking every cruise Ive ever taken

They also do it when you reboard at every port

This is common practice and not new at all

This was a second scan. They scanned your carry on in the terminal as normal and did it a second time after boarding the ship. I assume to catch anyone who purchased beverages at the duty free after security.

  3. Ooh please do as Barcelona has a duty free shop after the scanners and normally none on the ship. I wonder if they changed it now

I did a cruise on Royal Caribbean out of Barcelona a couple of years ago and they had the scanners set up on the ship and had you put your carry on through it when you boarded. I wonder if NCL will do the same thing.

  4. For those whose survey ended after they entered their age or income, I don't think you should assume that your opinion doesn't matter. It's likely that Celebrity feels they appeal to your demographic already. They are probably trying to learn how they can appeal to a broader group.

It's also possible that they have set maximum numbers for each category. Once that maximum has been reached then anyone in that category is no longer needed for the survey.

  5. On our upcoming cruise to Bermuda my mom, sister and myself are "dressing up" for the first formal night in Luminae (something we would wear to an evening wedding) and won't feel out of place at all!

Its part of the aura and fun of cruising. My husband and son will wear suits with a dress shirt, no tie. We're excited about the evening and hope we aren't in the minority!

The 2nd evening chic we will dress more casual (summer dresses for us girls, dockers and collared shirts for my boys)

As far as others, IMHO they should respect what Celebrity's guidelines are for dress in the dining rooms, but if they don't, it has zero impact on me and my family enjoying ourselves.

I just shake my head at people who come here and complain about what other people are wearing as if their entire vacation was ruined because some guy had jeans on at the table next to them.

    Relax, it's vacation!

I don't believe they have Evening Chic evenings in Luminae. My understanding is that Luminae is smart casual for all evenings. Only the main dining room (traditional/select) has the Evening Chic nights.

  6. Why would Royal credit your friends card instead of yours? Even if you were travelling together in the same cabin, if you paid for your booking, the overcharge should have gone back to your credit card.

If the friend is travelling with the OP, perhaps the friend is considered the "lead" person on the reservation and that is why the refund when to him/her.

I had this kind of thing happen to me, I purchased OBC, but it ended up being put on my friend's account as she was considered the lead for the reservation.

Maybe they do the same thing for refunds.

  7. DD concept in theory was good, but not in reality.

We liked Jamie's food, but not the service. Wonderland was the best in food and service. Celebrity should have something like Wonderland.

    Isn't Qsine similar to Wonderland?

  8. Why not everyone sit in the same place at the same time with the same wait staff and just change the menu???? Not very exciting but it might actually work!!

I'm not sure if it could work as the restaurants are spread over two floors with separate galleys (I'm not sure if there are 4 galleys or 2 one on each floor). But if you are in one of the restaurants on deck 3 (eg. American Icon or Silk) and today's menu is from Grande (on deck 4), I assume the waiter would have to run up the stairs to get your food and then run back down to serve it to you.

Plus you would miss out on the different décor.

  9. But what I believe they've done on Harmony is have the three levels all with the same menu - Two floors freedom and one floor fixed time.

Each floor of the MDR has a different name and decorative theme American Icon, The Grande and Silk - the same as on Anthem. Makes me think they were planning on copying Anthem and abandoned (or postponed) the idea late in the day.

The original plan was to have dynamic dining on all the Oasis class ships. When Oasis and Allure were in dry dock they did the same thing with the dining rooms as the Harmony. However a later decision cancelled plans to have dynamic dining spread to any other class of ships and the Oasis class continued to have the traditional/my time dining, but with the different restaurants décor/names.

  10. It wasn't rolled out on Harmony and I believe the concept has changed on Anthem from what was originally intended

What they did on Anthem was to add the option of Dynamic Classic, which is similar to traditional dining, with early and late seating. Those with Classic rotate, on a schedule, between the 4 restaurants. Their wait staff and table mates also rotate and they keep the same table number as well.

  11. What do you mean not compatible with Allure? I've used Royal IQ onboard Allure of the Seas.

Also, and forgive my rant but it's a pet peeve . Wifi is not Internet! Wifi is the method of access to the local network, in this case the onboard ship network. Onboard Royal anyone can access wifi free and use the IQ app or buy the $7 chat/txt between apps or to the local rooms without needing to buy an Internet package.

The voom Internet packages are to register your device for external access from the ship via satellite to the Internet.

I thought Royal IQ was only for Quantum class and Harmony, I wasn't aware that other ships could now use the app.

  12. I don't have an answer to why nor do I care. You are entitled to your opinion. Different strokes for different folks. Just posting what we saw on those evenings on our particular Cruise. All I can say is we enjoyed all three production shows (don't care if anyone else did or not) and the few people around us we talked with while waiting to leave the theater expressed that they also liked the shows.

I experienced the same thing on the Eclipse at the end of January. I also enjoyed all the shows and they received standing ovations as well. In particular I thought Topper was surprisingly good as I had been a bit worried when I read the feedback here. Everyone I spoke to also thought it was good.

  13. The sign for the studio ocean view cabins seems incorrect as there aren't any passenger cabins on deck 16. Plus I believe all the Studio OV's are on deck 4 and there are 12 of them according to the deck plan.

However I assume the cabin pictured is what they will look like. I'm booked in one for my cruise next April.

It will be interesting to hear feedback on those cabins as they are between one of the restaurants and the casino, hopefully they won't be too noisy.

  14. There is a difference between "time to time" and two 180 degree swings in under three months. Rhapsody was going to Europe 4/2017. That was cancelled March 2016, the ship was redeployed to Cape Liberty for the summer season 2017. Now, it is being deployed to Europe for 2017. That is a large number of people to inconvenience. One would have thought this decision could have been made 10 weeks ago.

Wasn't Rhapsody supposed to go to Port Canaveral at one time too?

  15. I almost always cruise solo and even with the highly coveted studio rooms - they are always priced more then paying the double occupancy rate. But....just booked Anthem for August 2017 and was thrilled I paid for a studio the same price one would pay if sharing a regular room. I have never seen that happen so hope this may be an indication of things to come and not a mistake. Regardless, I booked!

There are several other studio insides available for those solo travelers out there.

I also booked the Anthem for Aug/Sept back to back and booked a studio balcony that I thought was a good price. However, I was looking at a 12 night in Jan 2018 on the Anthem and the prices for the solo balcony are outrageous - $6626 CAD for the solo balcony compared to $4512 CAD for a double-occupancy balcony with the single supplement. When the new itineraries were released a couple of months ago the pricing for the solo cabins weren't correct and it looks like some are still wrong though they seemed to have fixed the ones on the Harmony to where they are slightly less than the double occupancy cabins.

  16. probably close to 100% on most cruises now

I'm doubting it's that much as inside cabins don't get any of the perks and would have to purchase the drink package. Although with the price differences I've seen between an inside and an outside it would be cheaper to buy the drink package and stay in an inside then book an outside and get the "free" package. :D

  17. I have never and will never get on a ship armed with a bunch of cleaning products to wipe everything down. I trust that things have been cleaned appropriately, and if I see something that needs attention I bring it to my cabin steward's attention. I'm also not a fan of incessant hand-sanitizer use. I prefer soap and water, and only use sanitizer when I have to...on a ship, in port when I don't have a better option, and in a stadium parking lot at a tail-gate party!

I spent 30 years working in public schools surrounded by almost every germ imaginable. I guess I got any germophobic tendencies out of my system during my career!:D

I had no idea people went to those lengths to attempt to sanitize their cabin. I'm happily unpacked and out enjoying the ship while everyone's cleaning!

Question for those of you who sanitize everything...do you do that in hotels too? Do you clean before you use a public restroom? I'm not trying to be rude...I just had no idea so many people did this!

Totally agree. I really liked the addition of sinks at the entrance of the Windjammer on the Anthem. Much prefer soap and water to sanitizers. Sanitizers are great, if soap and water is unavailable.

As to cleaning the cabin when I arrive, that is something I will never do. If I see something that needs attention I will bring it to the cabin steward's attention.

  18. Can you please check on the Unlimited Wi-fi price on the Anthem? Also what was the Diamond Plus discount on thisi package? Thank you.

I was on the Anthem in April and the price for unlimited for one device was $15 per day. I don't know what the D+ discount is but the diamond discount was $30. It worked very well.

  19. Here's hoping they bring back the Vidalia Onion Tart. Why they got rid of it, I'll never know. And hopefully, make the deserts better. They look great, but sadly I can't say the same for taste and texture for most of them.

    Erika

If you want the Vidalia onion tart you need to go on the Anthem as they had it in the Grande when I was on her in April.

While not really that serious, I'm wondering if there is a glut in the market for green beans? I did a 14 night cruise on Celebrity and 13 nights one of the vegetables was green beans. I was just on the Anthem for 12 nights and at least half the nights it was green beans. It became a joke at my table as we all checked out entre to see if we got green beans again. :D

  20. I was in a solo balcony cabin (6252) on the 18 April Anthem cruise. I had heard about the hard beds and emailed special needs to request a mattress topper. It was put on the bed and in my opinion the bed would have been way too hard for what I like without it. As it was even with the topper it was still a bit harder than I like, but the topper helped a lot so that I was able to sleep.

  21. And what's up with the studio balcony pricing? It's higher than the price for a D1.:eek:

I'm not surprised as the pricing on the Harmony studios is crazy. I checked with Royal and was told the pricing is correct. If I remember correctly a regular OV was around $2800 CAD and the studio OV was over $5000 CAD (this for the 29 April 2017 cruise). I can't imagine anyone paying those prices when a regular cabin or even one of a higher category is cheaper.

  22. But we must remember it's only a small percentage of the cruising population that are on Cruise Critic or that other social media site.

Most will probably not hear about it until they are notified by RCCL.

I'm wondering is there any chance this could be a trial balloon and they are checking the reaction to the change....Kind of using CC and the social media site as a focus group?
